I’m not a super-fan when it comes to Lord Of The Rings, but I recognise that Peter Jackson got the tone and the look absolutely dead on. It does not need to be del Toro-ed up. If he wants to be the great director the internet thinks he is (sorry, but what is so absolutely terrific about Hellboy 2?) then he needs to take a leaf out of Spielberg’s book and realise that the very best directors adapt to the project and don’t always need to put their visual stamp on it.
