“Three more days to Hal-low-een Sil-ver Sham-rock.” Nobody will be singing that in this version of Season of the Witch which sees Nicolas Cage don wig and sword and crusade through the supernatural thrills of the 14th century. His task? To transfer an alleged witch to an abbey whose monks will solve the witch-problem, and end the Black Plague while they’re at it.

Slated for release on 19 March 2010, Season of the Witch also stars Ron Perlman and Christopher Lee, and is helmed by ‘director of the ridiculous’ Dominic Sena (Swordfish, Gone In 60 Seconds, Whiteout).

I expect it’ll get a fair amount of flak online because of Cage’s reputation but I’m digging the look of the movie so far. This is the sort of project Hammer Horror should have come back with instead of the totally irrelevant-to-the-brand The Resident.
