Comedy Movies 2010 – Guide

– DECEMBER –

How Do You Know
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Jack Nicholson, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson
Director: James L. Brooks
Release Date: 17th December 2010

Best Comedy Movies 2010
Ol’ Jack is back on the big screen for a supporting role in James L. Brooks new comedy-drama. Their previous collaborations, As Good as It Gets and Terms Of Endearment, netted Nicholson two Oscars, but this doesn’t look meaty enough to repeat that success. The story is about a former athlete (Reese Witherspoon) in the middle of a love triangle between a corporate guy in crisis (Paul Rudd) and her current, baseball-playing boyfriend (Owen Wilson). Expect it to be entertaining and well-observed.

Little Fockers
Starring: Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, Owen Wilson
Director: Paul Weitz
Release Date: 22nd December 2010

Gaylord Focker is now struggling to raise five-year old twins with his wife, the daughter of a retired CIA agent. The screenwriter says it’ll also deal with “themes of death and divorce and all these real things that as we get older, we start to think about, but in a really comical way.” Dustin Hoffman is reportedly out after arguing with the studio over the size of his part and the schedule. Harvey Keitel and Jessica Alba join the cast. Paul Weitz (American Dreamz, About A Boy) takes over from series director Jay Roach.

– PUSHED TO 2011 –

Paul
Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen (voice), Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig
Director: Greg Mottola
Release Date: TBC 2011

Best Comedy Movies 2010
Two British sci-fi geeks (Pegg and Frost) go on a road trip through America. On the way, they discover an escaped alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) near Area 51. As they try to reunite him with his mother ship, they find ‘Paul’ has many more opinions than your typical ET. After previous collaborations you might expect Edgar Wright to be directing this, but instead it’s Greg Mottola (Superbad, Adventureland). How you feel about Paul will depend whether you considered Hot Fuzz a major step down from Shaun Of The Dead.

Your Highness
Starring: Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel
Director: David Gordon Green
Release Date: TBC 2011

Danny McBride, James Franco and director David Gordon Green all reunite from Pineapple Express to tell this story of a lazy medieval prince (McBride) who smokes wizard’s weed (hence ‘Your Highness’) until he’s forced to complete a quest to save his father’s kingdom. There will be creature fx. Sounds amazing.

Born To Be A Star
Starring: Nick Swardson, Christina Ricci, Stephen Dorff, Don Johnson, Pauly Shore
Director: Tom Brady
Release Date: TBC 2011

Best Comedy Movies 2010
Co-written by Adam Sandler, this tells the story of a kid from the Midwest (Benchwarmers’s Nick Swardson) who moves out to Hollywood in order to follow in his parents footsteps – and become a porn star. Don Johnson is a washed up porn director. Stephen Dorff is a porn star named Dick Shadow. This is a b-side from Sandler’s production company given to their director who seems to get all the sh*tty jobs (see: Rob Schneider vehicle The Hot Chick, The Comebacks). Don’t expect much.

The Zookeeper
Starring: Kevin James, Rosario Dawson, Sylvester Stallone (voice), Adam Sandler (voice)
Director: Frank Coraci
Release Date: TBC 2011

Zoo animals break their code of silence to help their zookeeper (Kevin James) win back the woman of his dreams. Teaching him their methods of dating and mating will be Sylvester Stallone as a lion, Adam Sandler as a monkey, Jon Favreau as a bear, Cher as a giraffe, and Judd Apatow (?!) as an elephant. From the director behind The Wedding Singer, Click and The Waterboy. Sounds fun …I think.

The Beaver
Cast: Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster
Director: Jodie Foster
Release Date: TBC 2011

Best Comedy Movies 2010
Right now I can’t believe this is a real movie. Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, starring Mel Gibson. ‘Gibson walks around with a puppet of a beaver on his hand and treats it like a living creature.’ – That’s the synopsis. Above is a picture from the set. So far it only has a firm release date for Argentina. Update: Looks like it’s a drama. Needed to be played for laughs.

The “Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie” was excellent!
This is funny, great film entertainment that beats out all of the “A” lister films. This movie was a great reminder of what it was like back in Jr. High School, and adults will remember and enjoy this movie as well as middle schoolers and high schoolers.

Found myself laughing out loud in the theater and again at home with the rental. If you like fun, entertainment with a great storyline and excellent acting, especailly by the star of the movie Zachary Gordon (who plays the main character), go see this movie or rent it…you won’t be disappointed.

This movie is really enjoyable entertainment…..

Seriously, most of these movies suck. Death At a Funeral was ok, and I did like Date Night, but all the others were stupid. Ok, maybe not Jackass 3-D. I thought a really funny one was the Hangover, and Vampires Suck. Those were way funnier than these lame movies!

Can’t say I’ve been overly impressed this year, although Hot Tub Time Machine was actually a lot better than expected. Still I guess I will eventually get around to Date Night, Cop Out, Dinner for Schmucks and Get Him to the Greek. I’m not expecting to be awed by any of them.

“Getting to the Greek” is the funniest movie that I remember seeing in recent history. Every line was so well delivered and thought-out that my husband and I rarely laughed, because we didn’t want to miss a single line. We even re-played the parts that we talked over 😀

P.S – Russ is the same character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall – just check out imdb. They just don’t reference the other movie, which would detract from this film

So I saw Get him to the Greek last weekend. Really disappointed. Where were all the jokes? It took itself way to seriously. All the relationship crap and battle with drugs was just depressing 🙁

I had the same experience with In Bruges last night, thought it would be much funnier, ended up being pretty sad and depressing. Trailer made it look much lighter.
