There’s been a lot of Percy Jackson 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?
There are five books in the Percy Jackson series, so far. The next installment is ‘The Sea Of Monsters’ which sees Percy, Annabeth, and his half-brother Tyson the cyclopes sailing across a dangerous ocean to save the kidnapped Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece (the only thing that can stop Camp Half-Blood being made vulnerable to an attack by the Titans).
At the London press conference last week director Chris Columbus said “If we are successful enough, I’d love to make another film almost immediately with these guys. We had a wonderful time. I love the enthusiasm and lack of cynicism. I want to go back to work quickly.”
And despite recent Spider-Man casting rumours, it doesn’t sound like star Logan Lerman is going anywhere either. “I’m invested into the whole series. I’m crazy about the story and crazy about the character, I’d love to do all the films.”
The reaction to the first film has been mixed. Critics gave it a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Casual members of the public seemed to half enjoy it. But many fans are angry. According to the feedback on this site and elsewhere, the book wasn’t just compressed (ala Harry Potter), it was “butchered”, its “heart taken out” with major plot re-routing, some characters altered beyond recognition, other key ones dropped entirely, etc. How this will affect repeat viewings and word of mouth we will have to see.
Lightning Thief has made $31 million on its opening weekend in the US. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. Internationally it opened with $28 million, which is underwhelming. It cost around $95 million. As of today, it needs to hold on well domestically and internationally to become a hit. If it does, there will be more.

Definitely make a sequel!
If there is a sequel, keep it closer to the book (except don’t put the hydra in because it was already in the first movie.) Make Luke’s reappearance a surprise because it makes it look like he is dead at the end of the first movie.
I liked the first movie but it was too far from the book. The special effects were GREAT. Camp Half-Blood was amazing. Grover and Chiron had great effects on their legs. Medusa was creepy and was played really well.
what a film, me and my 6yr old son really enjoyed it, never read the book so dont no if it came off track, great acting brilliant special effects, wud go and watch the next 1, topclass.

There really should be a Percy Jackson 2, cause if there isn’t ur just gonna anger the fans more. I’m a fan and i liked it, but it was off track read the book first then make adjustments if needed. if you’ve already read the book great, just stay true to it.

I really want to see the whole Percy Jackson series as movies I love the books and I’ve read them a million times! I think in the last movie you should have followed the book more clearly it would have been more exciting if you added the pit scorpion in the end and waited to show Luke as the bad person then so you could end it with a mystery and I like the choice of characters even though Anabeth originally has blonde hair in the book. And if like I’m hoping you will make the next books in the series into movies you should stay closer to the books because in most cases the books are better than the movies and unlike other comments I think Anabeth shouldn’t die her hair blonde because then you would have to go into detail to explain why it changed in the movie when you first see Anabeth AKA Alexandra D. And I absolutely think you should keep her as the actress who plays Anabeth because she has amazing chemistry with Percy and plays her part well. GO PERCABETH!!!!
NO! That person who played Annabeth should NOT have been chosen in the first place. ALL the characters should be 12, except 4 Chiron and all the other gods, Luke can stay the same. But Annabeth should dye her hair because that’s part of her description!!! You can’t butcher a character like that! That’s the most recognizable part of someone!!! Oh and Percabeth? really? They don’t have a name like that. I will not have them be a Hollywood couple!!!

I totally agree with Erin, Annabeth should of been blonde!!! Shows that even if your blonde you still very smart. Also what annoyed me the most was Chris Columbus, look at Harry Potter, that turned out fabulously thanks to Chris. The main actors were the right age (not 7 years older) and they delevloped with the story and grew up with the story. Chris has ruined this. I love the actors and all but they really should have been the right age and this has totally ruined the story for me
SOILER ALERT:i think they should do the other book but this time not cut out that the gods acutally come ouot because mr d is an important carecter in the titans cures and the last olympian….they should also show aphrodites child (i forgot her name but the spy chick) beacuse she becomes a spy for kronos and she helps clarissie defet the drakon in the last olympian….btw they shouldnt be 12 cuz how are 12 year olds gunna do the stunts for the movie….so yes i think they should leave it as it is and just add the other charecters….oh and they should show them surprised when they see lukes alive they made him look died in the first move…..
I’m reading the new book, the son of neptune, and I think its one of the best books ive ever read. I threw a fit when the first movie was over because I knew it would be awhile until the next book came out, but this is ridiculous!! MAKE THE NEXT MOVIE!!!

I think I’d love to see the siren there and the face that comming in their heads. I also like to see percy to become a guinea pig just what the book said. , Uhm In the characters Although in the story She need to be bloned But I think It not fitted to here So I prefer to just stay here looked. OK. i LOVE Ricks books and their the only ones i really like so when i saw the movie i was surprised when their was no clariese (idk how to spell it) and when they didnt stick to the book. Like most movies i do think the book was better but the actors werent like the book had described. Like how the actors were to old even though they were good, and how grover wasnt shy and skiddish also how percy started to like annabeth that startes to happen in the sea of monsters in the lightning thief their just trying to figure out if thier friends or foes.
Annabeth’s hair should stay the same,no dying it blonde! It would be confusing for people who haven’t read the book. Alexandra really plays the part well. And Erin, would you rather have their couple name be Arcy or Annapercy? I mean really.
Finally someone with some sense here… the movie WAS HORRIBLE, H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E, Like the person who wrote the script use the book as toilet paper… i’m soo offended by this movie that i want to cry.. grover dancing lady gaga? and a lady’s man…. no no no … i say BIG NO NO to the sequel.. the first movie NEEDS a remake… a big remake… and please include rick jordan in the creation of the script and in the casting… i’m a bigg fan of this books like and can read them a million times and i will never get tired… and they diserve a big movie adaptation…

i think i doesnt really matter what color someones hair is. if it really matters to you so much then go and watch another movie.the movie doesnt have to be an exact replica of the book although it would have been cool to put clarisse and mr d in.

I know how you guys all say that Annabeth needs to have blonde hair. Think about it this way maybe they couldnt find a good enough actress with blonde hair to play her lead and i dont know but what if its a religious thing that she cant die her hair or what if she didnt want to. And how all of you guys said that they need to be 12 im around that age but not to be mean but they are more experienced and know how to play the roles better. Ive personally never read the books but the movie was really good and i think they need to make another movie into the sequal. With the director being this talented im sure they can go far. the movie needs to b completely redone percy needs to be younger hes 11 in the first book he looks 16 in the movie and anabeth was on the bliu team in the capture the flag and clarisee is not eaven mentione and mr d wasent either they need to have rick .r to the screen play script and they dident eaven meat areas and that battel was epic in the book but THEY DIDENT SHOW IT thats a key part and the healm of darkness wasent eaven missing and i could go on and on a bout it so came on diseny re due it

Some of the comments say that nobody wants to see 12 year olds with swords and daggers,how about Harry Potter!Young kids doing magic and defeating creepy creatures and villans(killing them!)but what happened?they grew with the story!

Logan Lerman is ALREADY 20 thus he was 19-18 in the movie screw drinking age…. He gonna be almost 25-28 at this rate! an almost 30 yr old playing a 16 yr old ewww! It’s gonna be like High School Musical all over again but with more fighting! :’(

uhm.. hello? logan lerman is born 1992 so basically he’s 19… and will you people just please stop w/ the negative comments! i mean, sheesh! alex is very good at portraying annabeth’s character! well duh! she’s not blond so what? dye her hair or just leave it like that, and their age? gosh! a directors imagination is wild so he’ll come up w/ something, and if you guys really want them to continue making the books into a movie why don’t you just encourage them, post something nice! i’m pretty sure they’ll think of ways to make the movie go w/ the book this time, oh and alex and logan are perfect to be annabeth and percy, i’ve asked people about it, so let’s just wait and hope this time thor won’t make the same mistakes columbus did on the 1st one,

I agree! that was the first thing I noticed they full screw up the age. After finishing the novel, i watched it. I was like wat the hell he looks old for a 12 year old.

Second who cares about the hair? I mean would you change your hair color just because a book says so? I highly doubt you would.
Third I really hope there is a sequel, I probably would have been pissed off if I was a fan of the books before the movie, but I wasn’t. I watched the movie as something brand new and I thought it was AWESOME. Who cares if they mixed a few things up, it’s really well done, the effects are amazing, and the acting is really well done. As for the ages, WHO CARES. 12yr old kids would have never been able to do those stunts, plus it’s better that they are older, that means BETTER ACTORS, i.e. more experience and more realistic expressions.
first of all percy ends the seiries as 16! he looks 15 or 16 now! and it does matter that they left things out because first of all the 2nd book starts out with clarries pissed at percy in the middle of an important battle. they didnt have claries fued with percy shown in the first movie let alone her even in it. second it will take alot to recover from what they messed up to get the second movie even close to the book. third they didnt explane how the big three are not aloud to have childern as result of the oathe after world war II
I think that all the mess ups are fine EXCEPT for their age. One of the big parts of the WHOLE series is the profecy at age 16. They are already 16 in the movie so it kinda ruined that..but other than that it was amazing! They could make the profecy change to where the age would be like 20 or something. They could make it work if they really tried. I hope they make The Titans Curse after the Sea of Monsters. Just PLEASE stick to the book as much as possible
You’re so right! NOTHING is the same as the book. I mean, seriously, he’s supposed to be freaking TWELVE. Rick Riordan made it that way so the series ends when he’s SIXTEEN. This guy Logan, who is, in my opinion, an okay actor, is ALREADY SEVENTEEN. He’s NOT supposed to be DRINKING AGE WHEN IT ENDS. That was the biggest mistake they made.
I agree with you that they should make him 12!!!!! my little sister is 12 and she and all her little friends would love it if someone thier age is percy. CUT THE DIRECTOR SOME SLACK!!! it’s pretty easy to get the plot back on track if they work at it.

Don’t cut Chris Columbus slack (the “director”). he couldn’t direct a successful show on telemundo, let alone a full feature film. the guy should be canned for what he does to movies. No other director in history has butchered movies like he has.
moving on, Dune, whomever writes your scripts, fire them. There’s decent talent out there, if nothing else, use the books themselves, (like LOTR), or quit making movie disgraces.

Chris Columbus can’t direct? sure he’s had a few clunkers but I doubt anyone would say Gremlins, Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Harry Potter were all flops.

Totaly with you man but if they do make a sequel they are going to have to do some hard work. Like mabey tell Percy about the oracle and the prophecy for the lightning theif. Also they need to put in Thalia without her being a tree all the emotion in her charactor. In the Titans curse when they are cornered on the pier by the mantico (Dr, Thorn) you wont feel that feeling that you feel so sorry for her because she has fought to her death before to save her friends. Also they somehow need to put Ares in mabey suddenly have it uncovered that he helped Luke and Kronos manipulated him. But Percy needs to be a little less interested in Annabeth, their relationship has to be very slowly built not kissing in the first movie! At this rate there will be little Percy Jacksons running around by The Last Olympian! Also Percy is only 12 in TLT he looks like 16. Lets have a protest and take down the studio that made this movie brick by brick (lol thats something Luke would say!)
So I watched TLT and then decided to read the second book I’m so confused. It sounds like I need to read the TLT before I go on to reading The Sea of Monsters anymore. I do believe they should go back and remake the first one. However, I’m not to sure if I like Percy being 12. If they do make the second movie they need to at least have Clarisse in it. Maybe have Hayden Panettiere play her.
okay guys. i have read the books a million times and i totally agree that they screwed the movie up, but they had to do it that way! well, okay yeah they could have picked better characters that were more like the ones in the books, and fixed up the scenery, but as far as the plot goes, they kinda had to do it that way. the books were created from the start as a series, and when making a movie based on a series of books, your not always 100% sure that the first book will work out, and you don’t want to have to leave the people that watch it hanging-like if they included Kronos or the Prophecy, for instants-if it fails and they can’t make another one. oh, and i would totally recommend reading the first book in the series before trying to read the second just because you saw TLT in theaters. chill guys, its just a movie- which apparently Rick Riordan didn’t think was bad, because he understands why they had to do it that way! And i just have to ask why your acting so surprised that it wasn’t more like the book. i mean, don’t all movies pretty much screw up the book when its made?

um, please don’t. Hayden is hot, Clarisse is a bully and not very attractive. Oh no, a key character was left out!!!!! oh wait, we can just introduce her in this scene in the next movie and the people who didn’t read the books will not be lost. They just have to establish the problem and need for a quest, show Clarisse being the one chosen to go on the quest, and everyone will have the same reaction they did when Tyson showed up 20 minutes prior. Same thing happens when Nico, Zoe, Thalia, Bianca, and Rachel appear when they are needed.
Couldn’t agree more. It was unrecognizable from the book. I am seriously disappointed with the movie. I don’t know how they are going to make the sequel with many key characters left out in the first movie and major plots all twisted. How are they gonna explain Kronos and the fact that Hades isn’t really the bad guy? This could easily rival the Harry Potter movies when done as close as possible to the books. I wonder what Riordan thinks about the movie.
k u guys, i agree with the people that think that the movie is good because,first of all the movie was already 2hours long and when movie directors have to try to get the movie 100% correct, they can’t, because
1. If people know exactly whats going to happen, it would be boring because there would be no twist , because everybody would know exactly what would happen.
2. The movie was 95million dollars, i don’t think anyone here is going to make even 3 million in their life time.
3. Stop being haters.
4. If u guys want to watch high school musical thats fine with me i am not going to stop u, but i would rather watch Percy Jackson.

I was all excited to see the movie because I LOVED the book!!! However, I was disappointed because the movie was NOTHING compared to the book!!! (I’m obviously one of the angry D:| fans!) Also, they changed almost the ENTIRE movie! The only thing that wasn’t changed was the only thing that COULDN’T be changed!!! The only reason (just like “The Last Airbender”) that I would want that movie Is if they came out with a better, more “by the book”, sequel!!!
I say they remake the entire series as a TV show called, Hereos of Olympus. They could restart the whole Percy Jackson series and even evetually add books like the lost hero. The show would allow there to be time for stuff that couldn’t be jammed into a movie be in the script, and I just think overall the format of the series would make great TV.

oh boohoo everyone who disagrees with what the movie is. Are you really so week minded that because you think the movie is crap you’re going to hate the books? god, sure the plot was changed a lot, but honestly, it’s a good movie and you should get over it. It seems like the only people who didn’t like the movie were totally crazy about the books . . . well guess what crazed fans :O NOT EVERYONE HAS READ THE BOOKS! the general plot was followed; of course, the prophecy hasn’t been introduced yet and some of the characters aren’t the same, but it just makes them more original. Me and my friends are almost holding our breath for the second movie, AND WE’VE ALL READ THE BOOKS! so basically I’m saying that a movie doesn’t have to be the same as the book. And hey, at least he didn’t make Percy a pothead and Annabeth a fairy

I love the Percy Jackson books and I liked the movie. Sure, it wasn’t EXACTLY like the book,with EVERY single LITTLE thing in the book. Yes, there was no Ares and Clarisse and Percy and Annabeth aren’t ment to be intrested in each other yet, and that dissapointed me a little bit. But I don’t think they ruined it because of that. How many movies do you see that are even VERY CLOSE to the book? I havent! For all you people out there, just because the first movie wasnt as good as you thought, doesnt mean the 2nd movie isnt gonna be good!!!! I personnally think that they should make a 2nd movie!!!!!

I agree that the movie was totally off on a lot of things, like annabeth makes mad because she has blond curly hair, a fact that was clearly overlooked, but still the movie was really really good and they made grover look a ton better than i imagined, and hades looks pretty sweet. the pearls were supposed to be a gift, not a quest to find them, but it made the movie pretty interesting and i enjoyed it a lot. MAKE A SEQUEL, DEFINITELY. if they change any characters it would ruin it completely. Dont change percy, even though hes too old for the part, logan lerman is really hot and hes a great actor.

rick riordan is an amazing author who interprets the life of teenagers very well. on many occasions in the book i understood how the characters were feeling. i bought this movie in hopes that it would be as good as the book series. i was disappointed in some ways but i also understand that it is difficult to literally copy the book word for word. i believe that a sequel would have great potential if they could readjust the script and vocalize more characters. i say go for the sequel. actually i really want to see all these books as movies. also i think that some of the actors weren’t as experienced as they should have been. but all together i really enjoyed the film and i’m sure that even the people who wrote bad reviews would go see the sequel just to see if they pulled it off.
I agree that they should make the sequels BUT they MUST stick to the book.

1. No Tyson
2. No Princess Andromeda – thus no Luke/Kronos/and alot of monsters
3. No Charybdis/Scylla – aka: no Clarrise in the movie
4. No Dionysus – maybe no Tantalus
5. The fleece isnt a main subject in the movie, its MOSTLY about saving Grover and they go like “Oh the golden fleece is here aswell, we will just nab that”
6. Percy Jackon will just somehow kill the cannibals in the gym
7. No longitude-latitude thing for island of cyclops
8. No Hydra – which is a bad thing I guess, cause it was in the first movie – plus there might not be a clarrise to save them.
9. Not 13 year olds, what the hell is up with that?
10. Most likely NO chariot races and Stymphalian Birds
11. No Hermes at the beginning and end
12. Circe’s island should still be there, but probably not gonna turn get the pirates turning back into humans from guinea pigs

In my opinion they have already set up a kinda screwed storyline, I agree that they should wait a few years and re-make the movie, or just make a movie of the new “Heroes of Olympus” books.

I totally agree with Alex because if they leave out Circe and it wasn’t destroyed, what are they gonna do if they film ‘The Son Of Neptune’????? Just make the Amazons nice, friendly girls that love boys?!?!?!?! NO!!!! I wont stand for that!! PS I think BEFORE they make ‘The Sea Of Monsters’ They should READ the book 3-4 times!!!!

Are you kidding me ” Camp Half-Blood was amazing” its supposed to be a freaking clearing with an arena a climbing wall a lake and actual cabins not houses for everyone. Also there are supposed to be fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and grass fields not woods. Goodness. Oh and by the way my son reads the series almost once a week and always complains that centaurs are supposed to be wild and that there are borders guarding the Camp, and finally Percy Jackson doesn’t know hes the son on Poseidon until he spends some time at the Camp. Also me and my son agree with Gravyfist. Scroll down a little and read the really long comment it is amazing and we agree completely. The book is completely better than the movie

i agree with you because it really upset me that they threw away the good stuff out the movie and i wanted to see how persy left the restroom wen clarisse and the other girls try to mess with him.
I luuuuuuved the movie. i thought it was great! it had great special effects and i think grover and percy were played well. I don’t wanna sound mean but annabeth could have been better. First of all, she is supposed to be blonde!! just an fyi. I think the director should have actually read the book before making the movie. other than that it was rlly good. i was just mostly dissappointed by annabeth. im a blonde myself and having a smart blonde in a movie would have finally proved that blondes aren’t dumb!! lol
The first movie was good but it was a train wreck!!!They changed the movie so much i almost did’t know that it was a percy jackson movie i mean it was so brocken up like a hidra and ther was no ares it was a AWSOME movie but god they scred it up!!!!!!!!!
I’d love to see a second movie itll be good but keep it closer to the book ((minus the hidra))!!!

I totally agree with the whole Luke coming back thing. But there also should be some new villains. Someone with a little more power, and we should know about that person from early on so it’s not such a who-dun-it type of thing.

I liked the movie alot but I also agree that they need to make it closer to the movie. In the second on Luke needs to come back and they need to have Clarisse and Tyson. Since the characters are obviously not 12 they could have it to where it seems like all the movies are in percy’s first and second year since he is staying all year in the movies. I love the special effects and the actors and actresses just please keep it closer to the books.
u need to read the book the book is so much better than the movie. and when you read the book you’ll realize how off teh movie really is
