Percy Jackson 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been a lot of Percy Jackson 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?
There are five books in the Percy Jackson series, so far. The next installment is ‘The Sea Of Monsters’ which sees Percy, Annabeth, and his half-brother Tyson the cyclopes sailing across a dangerous ocean to save the kidnapped Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece (the only thing that can stop Camp Half-Blood being made vulnerable to an attack by the Titans).
At the London press conference last week director Chris Columbus said “If we are successful enough, I’d love to make another film almost immediately with these guys. We had a wonderful time. I love the enthusiasm and lack of cynicism. I want to go back to work quickly.”
And despite recent Spider-Man casting rumours, it doesn’t sound like star Logan Lerman is going anywhere either. “I’m invested into the whole series. I’m crazy about the story and crazy about the character, I’d love to do all the films.”
The reaction to the first film has been mixed. Critics gave it a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Casual members of the public seemed to half enjoy it. But many fans are angry. According to the feedback on this site and elsewhere, the book wasn’t just compressed (ala Harry Potter), it was “butchered”, its “heart taken out” with major plot re-routing, some characters altered beyond recognition, other key ones dropped entirely, etc. How this will affect repeat viewings and word of mouth we will have to see.
Lightning Thief has made $31 million on its opening weekend in the US. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. Internationally it opened with $28 million, which is underwhelming. It cost around $95 million. As of today, it needs to hold on well domestically and internationally to become a hit. If it does, there will be more.
What would you like to see happen in a Percy Jackson sequel? How can they improve on the first movie? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

The first movie was great and all, but the main characters are supposed to be 12, not teenagers. How will the “prophecy at age 16″ thing work out if the main characters look that age in the first movie. I think they should recast the role for younger kids. and by the way, Grover isn’t Black.
I thought the movie was great! I loved it but they really should’ve added Clarisse in it. She will play a HUGE roll in the last movie (if they make one…..I hope they do) and also, dye Annabeth’s hair blond. They should’ve stuck to the book more but it was still REALLY good. It’s now like my second favorite movie next to “The Hunger Games” (which was AWESOME)
I totally loved the books. They weren’t my favorite, but I adored the plot line and the characters. I went to see the movie, and I got in trouble with my family because of all of my angry remarks on everything they did wrong. They left out a lot of stuff, and changed a lot. I get having to leave out some stuff for time reasons. But they apparently had time to make a few new scenes. I was not happy at all with the movie. The youngest person cast was nineteen, and that isn’t acceptable. They need to actually be young! There are young, mature actors / actresses. You just have to search. They also forgot Clarisse in the movie. She plays a huge role in the second movie, and I don’t think it will be great if they all the sudden introduce her. I fell very upset with all that they changed and left out. They didn’t think ahead. At first, I was hoping they would do all of the series into a movie. But now that I think about it, I don’t want to sit through a whole bunch of movies complaining about things they left out. I would prefer the rest of the books to be remembered decently, and not like the movies. So in my opinion, no movie. Don’t ruin the image for people.
THEY SHOULD TOTALLY MAKE MOVIES FOR THE WHOLE SERIES!!!!!!! First of all they can’t just make one movie and leave the rest hanging everyone i know wants them to do films for the whole series and I AM A #1 LOGAN LERMAN FAN so yea. Also in the first movie they should’ve included Thalia to make it less confusing because she plays a part in the second movie. But still GO PERCY JACKSON!!!!!
i think the sea of monsters will be a great movie and a hit if the movie is based according to the book!!
So many complained about the ages of the characters….but if you think about it they still weren’t old enough to go into the casino. Remember US law states the you must be 21 years old. Some how I don’t think they would allow a 10 year old into the casino for any reason. So just go with it. The movie was great and I truely enjoyed it.
I LOVED IT! I did read the books, and there were a lot of changes and things that i didn’t like too much, so I think in the next movie you should make sure it’s more like the book. I think making all the movies would be a brilliant idea. I am 11 years old, and I really enjoyed the movie. Even with some flaws in it.
Great Job!
so you know what just make the second movie since you already started the series and fix the next movies obviously ur gonna have to leave the actors but ur gonna have to add all of the rest too!
My son is anxious for a sequel. We all enjoy the first movie and can’t wait for the next. We hope there will be a budget and will make sure we see all of them.
I agree with Malexita. In the book, Grover was crippled and could barely walk. Anabeth should have been blonde in the first place. AND, Grover never fell in love with Perstephone and her clothes were strange. Also, WHERE IS CLARIES in the 1st movie? It is clariese not anabeth who tries to kill percy at the stream. Get ur facts right peoles!
Another thing about Grover: he was NOT outgoing!
i think they could be improve on the first by not skipping so much of the story.
If they make a second they need the following:
Clarisse
Minatours
Tyson
Golden fleece
Thalia
Dreams
Oracle of Delphi
Polywhatshisface
Invisible hat
Hermes
Sirens
Explanation of Great Prophecy
Chiron’s replacement and blame
Rainbow
Andromeda
Crab
Monster chain
Thalia’s comeback
Keeping this quIck and short- I really enjoyed te first movie, it was thrilling and Percy is really hot. I know people think that it’s way off the book but from my perspective, I haven’t read the book and the movie was really good. I think there should be another movie to carry on from the first one. Percy needs to keep the hair style though, it really makes him a character. Annabell should really die her hair back to brown because she had it brown from the first movie so it should stay brown for the rest even if that’s not what the book says. But I would really live to see a new movie come out soon , can’t wait.
hey, at the first book, Mr. D was already mentioned yet in the movie there was no Mr. D at all only chiron. my suggestion, most of the conversations that was in the book should be on the script like in the Harry Potter Series.
and one thing, in the first movie, i think there was no seen that luke stole the bolt during their field trip at mount olympus.
I actually saw the movie first and thought it was okay. My older brother read them a long time ago when they first came out and was upset about how the movie turned out so I read the books and totally love the books i read them all in a week and then the new series heros of Olympus. Now i understand some of the upsetting things with the movie. Annabeth is my favorite character and her hair color in the movie is not a big deal but still annoying. The age of the characters n the movie i understand, in the book they come off older anyway and its better to have more experienced actors than people who are your exact picture of the character then not be able to come off as the true characters. I actually like the change in Grover i think it adds to the story and makes him more humorous than just wimpy. They need to make another movie so they can redeem themselves from the last movie that didn’t live up to the book, i dont mind the little things in book to movie adaptions but they have to stick to the story not try to change it too much
