Percy Jackson 2 – Sequel Plans

Percy Jackson 2 - Sequel Plans (Sea Of Monsters movie)
There’s been a lot of Percy Jackson 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?

There are five books in the Percy Jackson series, so far. The next installment is ‘The Sea Of Monsters’ which sees Percy, Annabeth, and his half-brother Tyson the cyclopes sailing across a dangerous ocean to save the kidnapped Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece (the only thing that can stop Camp Half-Blood being made vulnerable to an attack by the Titans).

At the London press conference last week director Chris Columbus said “If we are successful enough, I’d love to make another film almost immediately with these guys. We had a wonderful time. I love the enthusiasm and lack of cynicism. I want to go back to work quickly.”

And despite recent Spider-Man casting rumours, it doesn’t sound like star Logan Lerman is going anywhere either. “I’m invested into the whole series. I’m crazy about the story and crazy about the character, I’d love to do all the films.”

The reaction to the first film has been mixed. Critics gave it a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Casual members of the public seemed to half enjoy it. But many fans are angry. According to the feedback on this site and elsewhere, the book wasn’t just compressed (ala Harry Potter), it was “butchered”, its “heart taken out” with major plot re-routing, some characters altered beyond recognition, other key ones dropped entirely, etc. How this will affect repeat viewings and word of mouth we will have to see.

Lightning Thief has made $31 million on its opening weekend in the US. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. Internationally it opened with $28 million, which is underwhelming. It cost around $95 million. As of today, it needs to hold on well domestically and internationally to become a hit. If it does, there will be more.

What would you like to see happen in a Percy Jackson sequel? How can they improve on the first movie? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I didn’t like how in the first movie they left so much out but they are many ways they can improve that in the second movie: they can make it so that Kronos saves Luke from the his fall into the ocean and in return, Luke serves him. Or they have him not die from being cast into the ocean by Percy and Luke starts having dreams with Kronos trying to convince Luke to serve him like it started in the first book, and they can go from there with the rest of the series, headed in the right direction. This will give them better reviews and more fans. Most people who didn’t like it, didn’t like it because it differed from the book so much.

To tell you the truth I completely agree. It did not live up to many of us Percy Jackson fans because they made into something completely different from the stories many of us fell in love with.

it not annabeths hair color or the age of the actors that im worried about so much, its the fact that they butchered the story plot so much that it is an insult to our intelligence and to Rick Riordan.
Please let there be movies for all the books ( including the second series ) and they should TRYYYYYYYYYYYY! they hardly even tried with the lightning theif! it was a flop!

In the second movie, you must show the scene when Annabeth is tempted by the Sirens and her deepest desire and fatal flaw. At the end of the movie you also must show Thalia. If you make the third, you must add Bianco and Nico. You must also show the fight with Thalia and Percy, Rachel Dare, Bessy, and the fact that the Oracle walks down the attic and into the forest and says a prophecy.

Hey Jazz, have you read the books? It just kinda sounds like you don’t know Percy and Annabeth DO end up as a couple. :)

You do realize that the movie does not do the book justice and that Alexandria did not at all portray Annabeth the right way. Percy and Annabeth do end up as a couple after the war with the Titans though at the beggining of Rick Riordans series Percy is missing and we don’t really understand where he is until The Son of Neptune and he and Annabeth aren’t reunited until the Mark of Athena which isn’t even out yet.
And as they would say on Gossip Girl

Uhh, are you talking to me when you say that they don’t become a couple until the end of the series? Because believe me, I know. I’ve read the last book about five times and the others almost as much. But, I actually think that common knowledge around camp was “They’re dating, they just don’t know it yet—so, yeah, off limits.” ;)

Movie Freak: ” To be honest the Percy Jackson movie made sense in a way. For example: a 12 yr old kid with a sword? Thats a real influence on the kids. Then he rips the horn off a minotaur on his own? Yep, do you know any kid that can do that? No. So the movie was made to make sense even though it differs from the book. ”

    To Movie Freak:

Do you see any Minotaurs in real life ? No.

uuhh yeah, that’s what i thought.

Also, he didn’t rip it off the minotaur, he ripped it out of a tree. Have you even watched the movie ?

ps. There are swords on sale in Toys R’ Us. Don’t even bother saying ‘ but it’s fake ‘. yeah where is anyone gunna get a real sword these days ? and any sensible parent with a 12 year old kid would not keep a sword openly around the house. genuis

and 12 year old kids are in grade 7. no one in grade 7 is going to be influenced by someone in a movie using a sword and then go around stabbing people with one. i’ve seen 12 year old kids sneak in to watch saw and hangover 2 (a REAL worse influence)and i don’t see them going around having sex and pushing people off buildings.

What kind of examples were those ?

PLUUUS, there are tons of movies where people can’t do what the people in the movie are doing. Like superman. Can kids fly ? No. Can they lift a car ? No. Can they shoot x-rays out of their eyes ? No. Exactly. Not to mention in the book, Percy isn’t a NORMAL kid, he’s a demi-god. and those don’t exist in real life, which brings me to the point, it’s a movie. there’s obviously going to be things in there that people can’t do. what do you think makes movies interesting ? You want good influence ? Go watch Mother Earth.

This film was good but not great. It didnt stick to the book enough. Clarisee was a really major character with the head in the loo thing this made annabeth think slightly differently about percy. They needed to put in about the scorpion fight with luke so people who hadnt read the books noticed how much he wanted percy dead. And noticed the fight at the empire state building wasnt just about getting the lightning bolt. They didnt include the bit about Ares. He was a really major and it was him that got the lightning bolt from luke he didnt put it in percys shield. The bolt never got to hades. There is nothing about the helm of darkness either which makes hades really angry. The whole quest was completely changed the pearls were a gift not part of the quest it. The only bit that was quite good followed the book well, the fight with the minotaur. About the characters, they are ok now but by the end of the series the will be like 27? This will make them act differently to a teenager. With annabeths hair it is fine but they should try to edit her eyes grey as this is what makes a child of athena the hair doesnt matter. Alexandra has really nice hair anyway she might not want to dye it.
Te film is good they should deffinetly make more of the series but maybe inlcude rick riordan in some way this will make it fit the storyline more. They might have to change the actors now though because soon they will become to much a part of the story and to old to play percy and annabeth. The other ctors are great. Im not saying they are bad actors though because they are all great.

Listen I thought the first one sucked. I bet even Rick Riordan would agree. It made me angry and if any of you have seen the Hunger Games you should know that the same person the cast as Glimmer will be playing Clarrise which I find insulting to the books. Clarrise is supposed to be strong and a bit of a bully, but someone who you can always count on. And if I remember correctly she’s supposed to have long stringy brown hair not blond. In the last movie they left out some very important people such as Clarrice and Dionysus. I do not feel that they chose some of their caracters whisely. If you have seen the animations of the charaters then you would know that Grover isn’t African American (if I come out as racist then please know I do not mean to) and Annabeth is clearly supposed to look (as Percy said in the book) like a stereo-typical Californnia girl which is to say someone with blond hair and a tan. Leaving out Clarrise in the first movie I feel was a big mistake. They didn’t even mention Kronos! Their biggest mistake though was they totally made the movie about getting the pearls which were supposed to be a gift from Posiedon. They also left out where Percy falls from the St. Louis Arch. Camp Half-Blood I felt was a big let down. The only thing in my opinion that they cast Logan Lerman as Percy I feel he fit the part. To say it plainly I think we’re all just hoping they keep to the plot and do the book justice with the sequel.

I love the Percy Jackson series. I liked the movie but it was a dissapointment. It left out a numerable amount of good scenes that fans were hoping for. It did not end correctly either.
I would love to see the Sea of Monsters in film, but the first movie did not introduce Clarisse, who plays a big part in The Sea of Monsters.
I think they should remake the first movie so that it follows the book a lot better. I know it would be hard to reinact it just like the book, but it would be cool to see everything in the book come alive.
Plus, if they leave out something, it effects the rest of the seroius like leaving out Clarrise who like I said plays a big part in the second book. They also forgot about Thalia who comes alive at the end of book two.
So, they should redo The Lightning Thief, (like the book) and they would get more money if its better.
Then they can do book 2 like the book.

if it were me i would redue the first movie and show like clariss almost putting his head in the toliet and percy snapping her spear.

i think the film should be bit more like the book bacause they cut out most the main characters and best bits from the book. there should also be a bit more romance between annabeth and percy.

I agree that there have been MANY changes. I expected it to be better. It’s not entirely bad and no criticism is intentional, but they pretty much changed the story with the quest, they took Aries out, they had Persephone in the underworld during summer, which goes against all Greek Myths, they changed the role of Annabeth, Grover, and Percy is supposed to be younger because according to the books, when he’s 16 he receives a prophecy. They took out Kronos! He was a HUGE part of all of it. Percy doesn’t have any of the details from the books. I would rather have the movies exactly like the books then changed too much of, but I would LOVE a sequel to see how it looks!
