Percy Jackson 2 – Sequel Plans

Percy Jackson 2 - Sequel Plans (Sea Of Monsters movie)
There’s been a lot of Percy Jackson 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?

There are five books in the Percy Jackson series, so far. The next installment is ‘The Sea Of Monsters’ which sees Percy, Annabeth, and his half-brother Tyson the cyclopes sailing across a dangerous ocean to save the kidnapped Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece (the only thing that can stop Camp Half-Blood being made vulnerable to an attack by the Titans).

At the London press conference last week director Chris Columbus said “If we are successful enough, I’d love to make another film almost immediately with these guys. We had a wonderful time. I love the enthusiasm and lack of cynicism. I want to go back to work quickly.”

And despite recent Spider-Man casting rumours, it doesn’t sound like star Logan Lerman is going anywhere either. “I’m invested into the whole series. I’m crazy about the story and crazy about the character, I’d love to do all the films.”

The reaction to the first film has been mixed. Critics gave it a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Casual members of the public seemed to half enjoy it. But many fans are angry. According to the feedback on this site and elsewhere, the book wasn’t just compressed (ala Harry Potter), it was “butchered”, its “heart taken out” with major plot re-routing, some characters altered beyond recognition, other key ones dropped entirely, etc. How this will affect repeat viewings and word of mouth we will have to see.

Lightning Thief has made $31 million on its opening weekend in the US. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. Internationally it opened with $28 million, which is underwhelming. It cost around $95 million. As of today, it needs to hold on well domestically and internationally to become a hit. If it does, there will be more.

What would you like to see happen in a Percy Jackson sequel? How can they improve on the first movie? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Nos I don’t want to sound negative, but they should have fixed the ages the plot and the characters. Those were my problems with the movie. Now don’t get me wrong, camp half-blood was amazing but still the forest should not have been in the middle of camp. Where Aretha stables? What about the canoe lake? The cabins need refurbishment and more organization. They should be in ” a horse shoe shape”. That is stated from the books I am not sure which one because I’ve read them all literally all of Riordan’s history cross modern books and I tend to get mixed up with which is which. I understand the hair thing with Annabeth but still she could’ve worn a wig. A blonde wig for that matter. My main advice is re-do the first movie then continue, keep the plot more to the book not all of it though otherwise the movie would end up like 4hrs long and we can’t have that. Great special effects for the actual movie but keep the “love story” a little low key and build it up. That way you get people coming back for more because they don’t know what will happen next. Aphrodite promised to give Percy a hard time in the romance department in the “titan’s curse”. Seriously what happened to losing Hades’ helm of darkness anyway? You CANNOT exclude and forget a major god’s thing. Hades would have been quite upset at the fact that someone stole his helm. Also, Mr.D. How COULD someone exclude a major god like that? It’s an outrage. Not to mention Clarisse and…the prophecy. The prophecy is probably one of the most important things in the lightning thief BECAUSE of its significance in later books. Then there is Grover. You CAN’T leave out the g-man. It’s a good thing they didn’t otherwise they would have some very angry fans chasing them. Firstly, Riordan describes Grover as a red-headed, docile boy who has a goatee for some strange reason and uses crutches. Once Percy sees the three Fates (very important AGAIN and not given any acknolegment) he runs away from Grover. Percy finally finds out that Grover is a satyr a while later. Also I believe Grover is described with red hair and loves the wild. Those are two things missing from Grover’s attitude. Thye MUST have the first, second and third movies right if they want to continue onto the last book in the Percy jackson series. Even more so if they want to eventually do Riordan’s latest series, ” heroes of olympus”. This may have seemed long but there were actually not that many things I discussed. Whilst I did not enjoy the lightning thief (the movie of course, the book was great) the first time, I came to enjoy it once I bought it and Eragon. It was a well thought out movie for HOW they didn’t but maybe not a well thought out as I Might hav liked. Many have enjoyed it and while I was at first annoyed by many things in it, like it. And to those saying that the ages of 12 would make it look like they’re picking in kids here are my points I would like you to consider… First, Wouldn’t it have shown a certain ignorance to a new world that would have made it more appealing and provided and freshness to a world of adults? Second, most kids now are watching many different things that are higher rated so maybe if it was a lower rating it would encourage them to watch nicer films? Third and possibly last, being adapted from a book, would it have encouraged people to read the book and find out more? Also, adding to my points, children are they people that most visit the cinemas. If it was presented more towards the younger view would the producer not make more money? Taking into account that there have been many successful movies directed at the younger age group it probably would have succeeded. If you read this you are probably sleeping and for that I’m sorry, good bye.

The film was okay untill I read the book. What they could improve on is actually following the plot and characters in the book instead of rewriting the entire plot and most of the charaters. Annabeth has BLONDE hair not brown. Grover is unconcious halfway through the minotour attack and Percy has to drag him up the hill. There is no hydra in book 1. The Pearls were a gift from Posiedon. Percy’s Mother gets left behind, Hades’ Helm got stolen, Percy fights Ares at the end for Hade’s Helm and Zeus’ Bolt. A Furie collects Hades’ Helm. Hades gives Percy’s Mother back. I’m not even going to go on with the list of corrections, you’d be here all day reading them. If they are going to do the second movie I say, along with millions of other Percy fans, DO IT CORRECTLY OR DROP IT!

I understand that they can’t copy the book word for word but seriously Annabeth was my favorite character and SHE IS BLONDE I honestly think it was good except the characters were old and Annabeth wasn’t a blonde that really bugs and Luke doesn’t die in the first movie he wasn’t even there when Percy gave Zeus the bolt he went back to camp with the squirpian (can’t figure out how to spell the word) remember come on they definitely could have made the movie a lot better. I didn’t read the book before the movie I couldn’t get a hold of the book book I finally read it and watched the movie and it made me angry. Please fix the movie!!!!!

I would say make it sequel, but i was dissapointed with the first one, if your going to make them, keep them as original as possible, and maybe some better casting, such as getting people who are at least some what close to as described in the book

Keep it close to the book and have ALL of the characters in it. I did not like the first one. I thought it was disappointing from the book. And Annabeth??? BLONDE. That is the whole point of her. Maybe even remake the first one. I was expecting it to be as good as Harry potter. But it wasn’t…

The one thing I can say to them is to actually make it like the book. Although their version of the story in the first movie was nice, the movie is based on the BOOK so you have to make it more like the books. I heard that the actress playing Annabeth is going to dye her hair blonde for the movie so I’m already seeing improvements because that was something that really bugged me throughout the movie, the fact that the actress didn’t even have the right hair color. I really hope they can make it a little closer this time but either way, I’m thrilled to see anything having to do with the series because the Greek myths fascinate me. Crossing my fingers for a great sequel!

OK well yes the movie wasn’t exactly like the book but hey when are books and movies exactly the same.People come on get your head-out the gutter, and instead of criticizing the film or director help them out. yea sure they made some mistakes with the first movie..but give them the chance to make it up on the second try…and if they mess it up then-well sorry movie people, you’ll just have a field day with the fans.

    good luck :)

I watched the movie before reading the books and NOW I see the differences. BE WARNED! WHAT I’M ABOUT TO SAY MIGHT BE A SPOILER! I’m fine with their age but they went to far off the books. They should have included Ares and Cronos. They pinned it all on Luke which is just sad. Cuz in the end Luke would sacrifice himself cuz he’s the hero that will die. They also should have mentioned Mr.D in the first movie as well. Clarisse and Silena Bueregard are important too. I’ve heard news that in the second movie Annabeth will have blonde hair, there will be characters like Mr.D, Clarisse, Chris Rodriges, and Hermes. Oh and also they should include Thalia daughter of Zeus since she plays an important role along side Nico de Angelo and his sister Bianca. Besides, Logan Lerman is kinda cute. :3

Clarisse should have been in the first movie. Annabeth is supposed to be a blondie and Percy isn’t supposed to already know which Greek God is his parent. In the movie they already know. The movie was okay but too much not like the movie. If they make a second one they better make it good.
