Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie – Final Trailer
1.11.08 # 3:11 # Trailers # 2 CommentsAfter the last flight of Superman, and the flight over Oprah’s sofa, it’s easy to forget just how talented director Bryan Singer and Tom Cruise really are. Which means their forthcoming WW2 thriller Valkyrie should prove a highly crafted piece of suspense.
What I don’t see is how this movie can avoid being a total downer. The history is simple and well known – the German conspirators utterly failed to kill Hitler and were all shot. Merry Christmas everyone.
Even the new trailer depresses me a bit, not that it isn’t well made…
Oh and by today’s broad definition, isn’t Tom Cruise playing a terrorist?
Valkyrie hits U.S. cinemas on 26th December.

A terrorist would target civilians. Targeting a criminally insane dictator that has usurped the government and is killing fellow citizens on an industrial scale is an act of reason and honour. Sure they died – and sure Hitler survived – but the story is what they tried to do, why and how – surely a story that deserves to be told well. Previous efforts to tell the tale here and in Germany have been weak to middling. It looks like they’ve gotten it right this time.
I’m just saying that’s what it would have been labelled by the state if they were using today’s terms, of course it was an honourable action. And absolutely it deserves to be told. But it’s an extremely bleak story when you see it played out.
