For a summer blockbuster, Angels & Demons has been generating just about zero press, or buzz, thus far. Everyone involved is probably still slightly embarrassed, and rightfully so, about their involvement with The Da Vinci Code – this prequel is made by the same team. Tom Hanks’s return was reportedly eased by a giant paycheck, the sort you buy an island with. They even brought back the same screenwriter (shakes head).

This teaser trailer is highly dramatic IF you think that the Vatican still matters in the world. We all know it doesn’t. So instead the drama feels slightly ludicrous and limp.

Those who have read the book say it’s great, but didn’t the whole world say the same thing about The Da Vinci Code?

Ron Howard has been a terrific director, so hopefully he’s learnt from his mistakes.
