Joaquin Phoenix Quits!

It’s true – 34-year-old Joaquin Phoenix is leaving the acting biz behind.

His last film role will be opposite Gwyneth Paltrow (maybe that’s why he’s quitting?) in Two Lovers, out February 13th.

“Brother of River” Phoenix will be moving from the film business into the music one – apparently he has been directing music videos for the past year or so. It all seems to make sense.

Hilariously, Mr Phoenix walked out of an interview with “Extra” when the journalist asked whether he was joking about the announcement.

You may remember Joaquin from such Oscar-nominated roles as Gladiator and Walk The Line. It’s always a shame when a true acting great decides to call it a day – we at Movie-Moron wish him all the best.

I’m sure he means it, but he’ll be back. They always comes back. Directing music videos ain’t that great, it’s not like he’s married a princess.

I would guess he’ll come back. But good luck to him. Acting is essentially a very silly profession (Christian Bale came up with a good one – he said acting is a ridiculous job but strangely it gets better the more seriously you take it, which is very true I think) and I have the utmost respect for someone who takes a good look at it, succeeds at it, and decides to walk away. I think it shows that he cares about what he contributes to the world more than he cares about false praise, easy glamour and sycophants. Not that directing music videos is saving the world, but you get my point.

I’m glad to hear he’s directing though instead of performing. I had a horrible thought that he’d started to believe he was Johnny Cash.
