Comic Con: The Movie

Nerd commander in chief Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) is teaming up with documentarian Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) to make a ducumentary on nerdvana itself: San Diego Comic Con.
The documentary “will be centred on a still-to-be-cast group of convention-going superfans.” That sentence is disturbing because ’superfans’ behave like this:
Hopefully one of the three people they follow will be normal, to show that normal people are geeks too. The three people picked are apparently going to be followed by cameras for three months preceding Comic Con too, presumably delving into their lives as nerds.
io9, bastion of nerdom, had these insightful thoughts:
Honestly, there isn’t a better person to put together this feature than Whedon. If you’ve watched extra material on the Serenity DVD, then you’ve seen his and his casts’ Serenity Comic Con experience. It’s enough to make even the hardest critic tear up. Plus we’ve seen this man walk the floor at conventions, it’s surreal. He knows what the word “fanbase” means, and knows how to represent the entire experience accurately, inside and out.
Topless Robot echo my sentiments:
I feel if anyone if going to make a nerdy documentary on nerds attending nerd mecca that won’t be insultingly superior or make us all seem like society’s lunatic dregs, it’d be these guys. Of course, there’s no guarantee they won’t make us all look like fools, but at least there’s a shot.
Nerds love the Whedon. Here’s a Comic Con interview with a guy in a Joss Whedon costume, which may indicate what the documentary will be like:
