Kick-Ass 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been a lot of Kick-Ass 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?
Kick-Ass underwhelmed at the US box office this weekend, opening with an estimated $20m, some way below expectations. However don’t be too concerned because the reviews are strong, word of mouth excellent, and it’s been holding up very well in the UK, where it opened 3 weeks ago. The movie only cost $28m, and it has already taken around $13m in Britain.
Director Matthew Vaughn has expressed interest in a Kick-Ass 2, but maintains it has to be the right script and ideas.
Comic author Mark Millar has no doubts what he’s doing, “[The comic book series] is definitely a trilogy,” he says. “I couldn’t imagine doing more than three, but I’ve certainly got three worked out. …We’re starting on the [comic] sequel at the end of April. …I’ve [also] got [another] sequel potentially set 10 years in the future, that I’ll maybe do 10 years down the line.”
Here come the MAJOR plot spoilers -
“The idea of Kick-Ass was ‘what would happen if people in the real world tried to be superheroes?’,” says Millar. “Kick-Ass 2 is ‘what if people tried to be bad guys?’, as a reaction to the superheroes. The same way these guys were contacting each other on Facebook and trying out superhero costumes, what if bad kids starting doing this? So you’ve got this horrible Clockwork Orange scenario where these kids are happy-slapping, out there with their mobile phones dressed as villains doing horrible things to people, recording it and putting it online and that becoming massively viral all over the world. And these superheroes, who are maybe 15 year old schoolkids, having to do something about it, with the police wanting to close them all down.”
Will Hit-Girl be even more blood thirsty and foul mouthed? “I think it’ll be quite good to go the other way… Imagine History Of Violence with an 11 year old girl, the idea of someone who’s been through a lot of stuff and she’s an amazing fighter but she has to repress it all and lead a normal life and pretend she’s just another kid. So I like the idea of her going to birthday parties and clowns coming in and she’s sitting playing with her Bratz with her friends but she’s kinda into other stuff this isn’t really her. And then at some point in the future when she cuts loose again it’s going to be amazing – But that might not even be in the second one.”
What about Red Mist? Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin) says “Millar is going to make the character really dark. …Hopefully I get to bulk up, force myself to go to the gym.” Millar expands, “Red Mist becomes the Joker to [Kick-Ass]. But we’re talking about another villain as well, so he’ll almost be a sidekick to this other guy. My working [name is] somewhere between the motherf**ker and the c*nts. That’s the two names I’m thinking of. I mean, it’s better than the Joker, isn’t it?”
Meanwhile Clark Duke, who plays Kick-Ass’ friend Marty, adds “I’ve already gotten multiple promises from all of them – Matthew and Mark and John, all the apostles — that I get a costume.”
With the Kick-Ass box office being decent, but not stellar, there will be less pressure from the studio to make a follow up. But the momentum seems to be there anyway. Something would have to happen very soon though, or else the film’s real star, Hit-Girl, will be too old.
What would you like to see happen in a Kick-Ass sequel? Is the ‘superheroes inspiring supervillains’ concept, and Red Mist becoming ‘The Joker’ to Kick-Ass, just too close to The Dark Knight? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

part 2 would be good. at first i thought the movie was lame but man it was hilarious and awesome.
They should introduce.a.new superhero called moorehead so that way if he gets captured red mist/the moterf**ker could say “give me moorehead” which could be used as a pun in multiple circumstances
No need to make kick ass 2 anything but a sequel to the first. The original movie was refreshing and put Scott Pilgrim to shame. Why not bring back a deformed big daddy to save the day at the end of the second movie. Maybe he was held captive by some crazy sex offender who ends up being a new villian or something, I don’t know. Or better yet a really weird ally of big daddy. You could tell a really funny story of his recovery. Red Mist definitely needs to become more of a threat to make an interesting new villain but at the same time his weakness still needs to be being a wimp with a cocky attitude. I don’t think a kung fu red mist would be good. Making kick-ass a ninja would also be a failure. Once again, a sequel to the first is what I’d like to see, not some beefed up kickass. They need to capitalize on the fact he’s semi-unbreakable. Mindy being forced back into action is definitely a good idea, but I thin her and dave need to continue leading pretty normal lives. No crazy training for dave. Maybe she shows him how to be effective with his weapons or use guns for fun to show their longing to remain superheros, but no more. The sequel could easily ruin the original concept.
I really think the sequel will make the original even more popular, if done right. I’d also like to add, Ghost Rider sucked.
Honestly digged the kick ass vibe blood guts and drug money… Perfection… Just hope it dont turn out like batman… And i dont mean the crap they peddle now i mean how he accidentally created all of his real enemies like Joker etc… Also to be noted directors can horribly screw up sequels… Anybody who watched boondock saints thought it was epic but the second one just didnt live up and with this movie or hopefully eventual series/trilogy it could fade into the background like that bad lamp in the lounge nobody has ever noticed before… PEACE AND CHICKEN GREASE: Papa Justify
I noticed the sequel has been announced. Well they are all a little bit older by the time the sequel gets made.
Kick Ass has to get a job at the High School to keep an eye on Hit Girl.
We know Red Mist has to do some kind of super drug (ie Red Mist) which unleashes that wicked side of Katie, Kick Ass’s girlfriend. Kick Ass can’t handle it, so he lets her go. She hangs with Red Mist. Now Red Mist can black mail Kick Ass.
In the trilogy, Hit Girl is living with the family of Kick Ass friend. She is in High School with an unsuspecting boyfriend, Katie is back to being a good girl, Kick Ass is a school teacher. Katie is also a Trauma Doctor at the emergency ward. We didn’t really see what Kick Ass father does, but he should be a night shift ambulance paramedic/driver, so there is an awkward link back to Katie. Red Mist is recovering in hospital from overdosing in his drug at the end of the last sequel, so now he is a really good person who co-ordinates all the do-gooders. Katies friend is living with the other Kick Ass friend, they have twin babies. A happy ending for all.
sounds awesome, the first one was amazing. do it.
I think it would be great to make a sequel!I also think it would be really cool if Red mist makes his own alliance and takes his fathers place in the movie. And More super heroes get inspired and try to join Kick-ass & hit girls alliance.Hope you can make the sequel!
Are you guys kidding me? Don’t get me wrong… Kick Ass was great and I would buy into any movies that come out; but HIT GIRL !!!
That’s the bread winner here in my book! when the hell are they gonna catch on and do a Hit Girl movie?
HIT GIRL should be the focus for a movie trilogy, and THAT, would Kick Ass!
First of all. One of my favorite movies of all time. Pushes the boundaries of ‘violent humor’. I agree with alot of you. The movie should’ve been called Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass.
She was the real star of the movie. But I guess they had to name the comic Kick-Ass because he thought of the idea. I’d like to see Hit-Girl more matured and see what role she grows into. Chloe Moretz is beautiful and talented, if you guys switch to a different young actress, I will boycott the film.
Red Mist better do some pushups because he’d get annihalated with one slap from Hit-Girl. and Kick-Ass needs to start ‘kicking some ass’. Super excited for KA2 though.
TEAM HIT-GIRL!!!!
Ok so for the sequel ontop of new super villains they should introduce aa new hero that happens to be big daddys nephew and he is like a combination of hitgirl and big daddy (fast and strong) and then in the third one he should become like the corrupt hero that brakes up drug deals but then takes the drugs for himself and he slowly starts to lose control. Then hitgirl and kickass should start to take down drug lords but without taking the drugs and turns them over to the police which makes (let’s call the nephew big brother cuz I can’t think of.a.good hero name right now) sell out the identities of hitgirl and kickass to red mist in exchange for crack and meth. Then after kickass and hitgirl get captured red mist hosts a nationwide television event held in downtown NY that would be like the kickass unmasked thing and then big brother realizes what he has become and decides to make things right by going down to save them. Meanwhile red mist has his army of supervillains ready and right before red mist reveals the identities of them big brother comes in and shoots up everyone and then hitgirl and kickass get freed and red mist shoots big brother in the chest and kickass takes red mists samauri sword and stabs red mist before he can finish off big brother but its too late. He dies a tragic hero. Then kickass and hitgirl reveal their identities for everyone to see. The end.
Kick-Ass was great, and the potential for a killer sequel is huge. I’d love to see Kick-Ass and Hit Girl team up to take out Red Mist, the villain. Dave obviously needs a lot of combat training (perhaps Mindy as his teacher?) and probably an outfit upgrade. Hit Girl obviously needs to retain her fiery attitude but go easy on the cursing. Hearing her say the c-word in the first movie was just too uncomfortable for me. A good plot twist would be that one of Dave’s friends crosses to the dark side and becomes Red Mist’s sidekick.
Whatever they do with the sequel, I just hope they keep it fresh, original, and violent. More emphasis on comedy I think would be needed as well, but not too much slapstick otherwise it will cheapen the film. Looking forward to seeing what they can come up with!
I can’t really see Hit Girl coming back properly, as she would need a proper motive for revenge to go back to the way she was in the first one. Though it’ll probably be easier than in the comic because her actual mother is dead and she’ll just be adopted by that detective, so she has little to lose.
Then there is the problem with the actresses age. She’s 13 now, and will probably be 14 by the time filming starts, which she may get away with playing a 11 year old, but there is no chance they can use her in part 3 unless they age the character beyond the comic.
I was worried that Kick-Ass 2 was going to be too.. different.
The 1st one is more a less The kids becoming slightly famous, being on the news and what have you..
But now, It’s going to be them completely famous. With millions on fans. Just like iron man 2, Which was terrible to the 1st one. Im not saying tony stark was infamous, but in the second one he was driving F1 cars and opening up for concerts.. It’s pothetic!
BUT, Kick-ass 2, I know will be different.. I can almost feel it. But i hope Hit-girl gets some action scenes during mid way through the film all the way to the end!!
But never forget, Hit-girl is NOT the main character. Either is Red mist. It needs to stay original.

And Big Daddy made kick-ass 1 extremely popullar.
Im sure at some point batman came back to life..
Awesome movie love it, but I think Christopher Mint-Plasse should stay in kick ass .
People hate when the movies change a character. The movie won’t be the same. I know mint-Plasse is a nerd ,but he’s good as red mist so please don’t change of actor please. Most of the people I know like hes roll on kick ass then on super bad.
