According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has finally put speculation to an end and offered Captain America to former Johnny Storm, Chris Evans.
The offer includes starring in up to three America movies plus The Avengers movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies. This all adds up to, reportedly, NINE flicks.
Earlier in the week Ryan Phillippe and Channing Tatum also emerged as leading candidates for the titular role, joining Garrett Hedlund and Mike Vogel on the dubious shortlist. Then there was Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Blethel, John Krasinski and Chace Crawford. The studio probably put so many names out there in order to monitor the response of fans. Negative buzz from initial casting is never a good start. They all got slagged off here on Movie-Moron so we probably weren’t of any help.
Captain America is scheduled to shoot this summer. Chris Evans is yet to say yes, but what else is he going to do, Push 2: Return To The Nanny Diaries?
What do you guys think of the decision?

I shoulda known this was gonna happen.Nothing against Evans I likd him in FF and Push, but come on is he really the only person we can come up with to play red, white, and blue!?

Channing Tatum was in the running?
He is actually one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Probably the safest choice but would he want to do 9 movies? They would probably do three before someone decides to reboot the whole Avengers plot
Personally I think it’s a bad choice, Evans is to peppy… I think Chris Hemsworth the guy who played kirks father in the new star trek would be a perfect choice.
Vin Diesel? Haha, and that’s only half a joke. You need someone very strong and wide. I love Chris Evans, and he plays a great Johnny Storm. He’s just not big enough to really play Captain America.
I mean, even Daniel Craig or Ryan Reynolds are likely more suitable choices.
Pretty sad day for comic fans. Also, means the long awaited Avengers movie is DoA.
If this was a Christopher Nolan movie you’d know he saw something in the actor we hadn’t, but the director here is Joe Johnston, who is extremely literal. What you see is what you get.
Even after a few days to think about it, I have to say Chris Evans is a disastrous choice. I was looking forward to Captain America, I’m not really now. Wake me up when the series gets rebooted.
I actually think Chris Evans is a pretty decent actor. It’s not all about looks. I thought that Clark Kent in Superman Returns looked great but he (and the whole movie) was pretty rubbish.
I think he may surprise us.
No to Johnny Storm as Cap, he was great in the FF. But really, is no there other actor besides some of the meatheads they wanted. I am with Sheridan wake me up when they find a real candidate to play Cap and make his movie a success!!!!!!!
