Screen siren Charlize Theron is set to star alongside Tom Cruise in The Tourist.

The Oscar winning actress is in talks to play an Interpol agent in the remake of 2005 French romantic thriller Anthony Zimmer.

The plot sees Theron’s character trying to track down the fugitive she once had an affair with, who’s played by Cruise.

The project will be directed by Bharat Nalluri, the man behind Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day [what the hell is that? - ed.].

Although the original film was critically acclaimed in its native France, it was a box office failure. So it’s not clear why it has been picked up for a Hollywood remake. Whatever the reason, expect the new version to have plenty of suspense, wit and plot twists – the script has been penned by Julian Fellows (Gosford Park) and Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie).

Production begins March 2009.
