Jack Black To Star In Gulliver’s Travels

I met Jack Black once while working at MTV. He wasn’t very nice. Still, he’s signed on to star in a live action version of Gulliver’s Travels.
It’ll be helmed by the guy who co-directed Shark Tale and the upcoming Monsters Vs Aliens.
This contemporary version of the classic novel will see free-spirited travel writer Lemuel Gulliver get into problems in the Bermuda Triangle and wash up ashore on Lilliput, an island of tiny people.
It’s written by the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the writer of Shrek.
In the 1726 book, Gulliver awakes to find himself a prisoner of a race of people one-twelfth the size of human beings, or half the size of Tom Cruise (6 inches/15cm tall). The Lilliputians are feuding with the neighbouring country of Blefuscu, and after Gulliver wins their trust, they want him to help them conquer their rivals. It was all a satire of the court of George I, but that may have lost some of its edge.
Jack Black has already found a giant ape on an island. Now he’ll be the giant ape.

Jack Black as Gulliver? He may be funny, but he’s no Gulliver. Already it seems clear that the book will be better than the movie. The book is about Gullver’s Travels (plural) to four different places–not just the one where Gulliver is a giant.
True but the original article in the trades makes no mention of the story moving beyond Lilliput so I’m not sure it’ll actually get to those other places. We will see.
