Cloverfield 2 – Sequel Plans

After the sizeable box office success of Cloverfield on Friday night, and the very positive word of mouth it’s getting, everyone is starting to think sequel.

So what to expect? There are big clues hidden within Cloverfield itself…

** SPOILERS AHEAD **

First off, is everyone, and everything, you think dead, really dead?

At the very end of the credits, someone can be heard whispering “Help us”.

And if you reverse it, this is what can be heard -

“It’s still alive.”

How bad can the damage be if they recovered the video camera from Central Park?…

At the premiere, director Matt Reeves said: “While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today’s day and age of people filming their lives on their iphones and handy cams, uploading it to youtube…That was kind of exciting thinking about that.”

So, if anything, expect Cloverfield 2: Angle B. Or at least some overlap, before continuation.

It’s very rare that a sequel does not get drawn into backstory and origins. What do we know there?… The last couple of shots of Cloverfield return to the footage that’s being recorded over – To Rob and Beth at Coney Island. In the background, you can just catch a large dark object plummeting through the sky, into the ocean. In other words – the first footage of the monster’s arrival?

No, not the monster. J.J. Abrams has said “The concept for the monster is simple. He’s a baby. He’s brand-new. He’s confused, disoriented and irritable. And he’s been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years.” What you see falling is a satellite, and it’s the recovery of that which awakens the beast…

I’ve watched it twice now, the second time fully aware of the rumors and watching very closely, but I can’t see anything drop into the ocean. Any word on what part of the screen it drops?

  • Max said:

I’ve only seen it once, so I haven’t noticed the dropping object, but he could still have been in there for thousands of years. Something dropping into the water could just be a meteorite that cracks open the egg…

I am not sure but i think thats Rob’s voice saying that in that hidden message.

It happens when they are on the ferris wheel. The instant it splashes down the camera turns away.

OMFG! that was awesome movie. but the ending was puzzling. they should make a sequel. like what the heck? its a baby?!? it must be like a little rat to its parents dude. :D haha. and we’re like amobeas or whatever. it was great 4.5/5. only the ending. MAKE A SEQUEL!!

Nothing like continuing the LOST theme with a different plot. Keep the viewers in the dark and they’ll keep coming back to watch to find the answers…..brilliant business model! Thought it was good…not great. A lot of unrealistic moments with the main cast.

if you go to 1-18-08.com it shows new pictures that were not in the movie, such as a dead creature on the beach..thus indicating that there has to be a sequel on the way.

I recently watched the movie and i thought it was amazing. The thing that i really didnt notice untill a few hours after watching the movie, was that the whole movie is a home video. So somebody has to be playing the video right? In the beginning it has all of those captions w/ the black background saying Location: Central Park and all of that stuff. I didnt notice something drop into the water when they were on the ferrilwheel but im sure something happend.

  • Kg said:

Yeah there is something at the end that plumets into the water from the sky. I didnt really get a good look at it because I couldnt pause or anything, but once the dvd comes out Im sure we will be able to see it better. It sort of looked like it had a tail but I couldnt reall see it to good. Best movie Ive ever seen though and pray to God that there is a sequal

  • Kg said:

oh yeah and the thing drops on the righ side of the screen.
