Cloverfield 2 - Sequel Plans (Clues In 1st Movie)
Ever since the box office success of Cloverfield, filmmakers have been pondering the sequel. So what should you expect from a Cloverfield 2? There are big clues hidden within the first movie…

** SPOILERS AHEAD **

Firstly, is everyone/everything you think is dead, really dead?

At the end of the credits, someone can be heard whispering “Help us”.

And if you reverse it, this is what can be heard -

“It’s still alive.”

How bad can the damage be if they recovered the videocamera intact from Central Park?…

At the premiere, director Matt Reeves said: “While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today’s day and age of people filming their lives on their iphones and handy cams, uploading it to youtube…That was kind of exciting thinking about that.”

So, if anything, expect Cloverfield 2: Angle B. Or at least some overlap, before the story continues.

It’s rare that a sequel does not get drawn into backstory and origins. What do we know there?… The last couple of shots of Cloverfield return to the videocamera footage that’s being recorded over – To Rob and Beth at Coney Island. In the background you can just catch a large dark object plummeting through the sky, into the ocean. In other words – the first footage of the monster’s arrival?

No, not the monster. J.J. Abrams has said “The concept for the monster is simple. He’s a baby. He’s brand-new. He’s confused, disoriented and irritable. And he’s been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years.” In fact, what you see falling is a satellite, and it’s the recovery of that which awakens the beast…

(See a screengrab of the object hitting the sea here)

So that’s the probable direction Cloverfield 2 would take, and the origins of the monster that would likely be explored further. But what do you want to see happen in any Cloverfield sequel? What should the plot be? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

What do I expect from the sequel?

More of the same BS of the first one. Punk-A$$ non-hero with annoying buddy filming everything, vapid female lead who holds the attitude “Umm…I don’t know about us and stuff”

More oblique shots of a monster that can’t be clearly seen.

More stuff blowing up for no reason.

More crap that makes no sense.

    No resolution.

    No concept of story-telling.

Abrams is a hollywood hack who thinks that the best way to tell a story is to not really have one to begin with. I got taken in by the viral (remember when viruses were considered bad things?)
marketing the first time, and Abrams got $12.00 from me. He won’t get another dime from me.

they should definitley make a cloverfield 2!! It should be about what rob and beth get out from under the bridge and it should be how the monster gets stopped and killed.

Well for a sequel, i’d say you should start off with a little bit of an overlap from the first film. Make it start back up, as a squad of marines recover the camera. Maybe when as soon as the camera turns back on, to record, you see the black soldier from the first film who helped Rob, by giving him the time coordinates for the choppers departure before crashing near the park. You could see his face close to the camera as he turns the camera back on. (Only for the fact, that, by now, as we all should know, the government classifies all these weird phenomena as “Top Secret information.) But aside from the fact of just taking the evidence of what happened in new york, the black soldier feels compassion for the young couple, and seeing that they made it thus far, he helps them.

Maybe you see Him, along with his squad of marines, helping Beth and Rob out of the rubble of the bridge they hid under, just a few moments, after “hammer down” was initiated. and the camera is then shut off, ending the story of rob and beth, ( Most likely the two same people who played rob and beth, should come back in a third movie, thus continuing, or ending the story.)

But then, after the camera is shut off on rob and beth, you see more footage, (A.k.a the second movie) unfold, as we now start the second story, with the official property of the United States Military message that started the first movie. And then take it from there, maybe make it like the first one being shot, with them holding the camera, ( But also, quick side note: In Halloween Resurrection, they had it filmed like a regular movie, but when they entered Michael s house, they had then started recording footage as the characters in the movie recording it, i’d say mix and match through the movie how Halloween resurrection was filmed for Cloverfield 2. ) And thats all i have. Hope you like it and consider it JJ. Love your movies man!!!

I can’t wait!!!!. the first one was great and so realistic, in my opinion i have to disagree with some people that thought the first one was trash because they didn’t explain alot. they do explain enough on websites and on the special features on dvd. they tried to make a realistic movie on what would happen if something like this were to happen in ny and they did a perfect job!!! its realistic because if something like this were to happen in real life its not like we’d know what and where the heck did this monster come from anyway and thats what makes this movie great, its so realisitic, and besides after the movie finished it had many people (including myself) searching the web for questions and finding pics and hidden videos which were great! it was like an easter egg hunt. so all in all cloverfield was perfect and i cannot wait for a sequel or any other films like it in the future like super 8!
