The Last Airbender 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been a lot of Last Airbender 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?
With a production budget of $150m, and $130m spent on marketing, Paramount want a worldwide take of $280m before greenlighting any Last Airbender sequel. The first movie has grossed $115m so far in the US and will likely finish around $140m, but it is yet to open in most major territories around the world. With the fanbase and the inflated ticket price of 3D, it may get within spitting distance when all is counted. Significantly, a Last Airbender sequel would reportedly cost less than the original movie.
But while a healthy number of people flocked to see it (based on the popularity of the TV series, Shyamalan’s name still being a draw, and the family-friendly subject matter), the reaction from nearly all was crushing disappointment. 92% of critics disliked or hated it. While the fans had this to say -
Remarkably, this reaction doesn’t seem to have phased writer-director M.Night Shyamalan much. Maybe he’s used to it after Lady In The Water and The Happening.
If he’s given the green light, he’s says that the main villain in The Last Airbender 2 will be Azula, the “only real, pure antagonist” in the proposed trilogy. Azula (Summer Bishil) had a brief role in the first movie. In the TV show the character is a destructive Firebending prodigy who becomes obsessed with capturing the Avatar. She eventually rises to the position of Fire Lord where she loses her sanity.
The elite female Kyoshi Warriors will also play a key role in any Last Airbender 2. They were initially in the first film, and M.Night shot a carefully choreographed scene with them, but he chose to cut it from the final print for being too “distracting from the movie”.
Tonally the second film will be “darker”, while the third will be “more ambiguous”. The 3D will be much improved, as M.Night plans to actually shoot in 3D this time, rather than convert after filming is complete.
So the question posed here is can a movie that is hated equally by critics, fans and general audiences alike, but that breaks even financially and has a director determined to push forward, get a sequel? Paramount will probably wait for Blu-ray/DVD sales before deciding. Watch this space.
What would you like to see happen in any Last Airbender sequel? How can they improve on the first movie? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I really want to know when the movie comes out I am a last airbender freak I need all 3 movie I can’t wait to get the rest of them
I actually liked the first one… i must be freaking weird then…but i did
I liked the movie. Never watched the cartoon. I do want a sequel for this movie just like I want sequels for Eragon and Avatar.
My understanding at this point in time is that a sequel for the last Airbender and Avatar are in the works. No word yet as to a sequel for Eragon. With all the criticsm about airbender I hope they do much better with the sequel. I notice, if memory serves me that the daughter – fire nation , is to go up against the boy. He knows up to that point how to use two forces and will be working on the third. I havn’t seen it yet but she looks outclassed . Curious how the director deals with that.
Yes it went by to fast but I would like to see the second movie,I think it would be stupied to stop a movie or movies in the middle of it or them.i have seen the cartoon all of them and I think it was cool seeing it for real, and u have say some of the things they did like when they rises the sea or what ever it was that was cool and it didnt look animed or anything like that.i really enjoyed seeing it awhile as the cartoons.i am a AVATER fan and I don’t like how a lot of you people say it suck when madye you can’t make a better on,so like my teacher said ‘you think it sucks and you say something then do something to make it better, cuz then it dose no matter,so then shut up!’Got it and learn it
LOVE AVATER THE LAST AIRBENDER
I COULD MAKE A BETTER ONE! Give me 150mil and I could turn out a better movie that could do the series some justice.
I’m not against a sequel coming out, but I HATED the first movie for several reasons.
1. NONE of the actors captured the personalities of the charactors they were portraying. It was obvious they knew nothing about the roles they were playing.
2. The name pronunciation was wrong on several characters.
3. The bending was very…delayed. It was slow, as in the original series the movements were very quick and based off martial art styles.
Anyone who says the movie was great is obviously not a fan of the series. There were too many errors to find even one redeemable quality.
If another movie is to be made these errors must be fixed.
and I loved the cartoon series.I missed 1 episode and started crying because of that.then the next day i ran around sreaming because it was on.and no i’m not crazy.I’ve been tested.
I’m not going to say the movie was good because it was not,it did need some work on it,but like A said it would be stuiped to cut a movie before it is done.and if u see the cartoons then u know they are going to make a 4th movie seeing that in the cartoon that the new fire lord has know idea where his mom is and he ask this dad where she was also we have no clue what happen to the sister.
LOVE avater
Okay, I have never seen the t.v. series, so I have nothing to compare the movie to. With that said, I think the movie was amazing! So it isn’t exactly like the series. Did anyone stop and think that maybe the director just used the t.v. series as a basis? Stop comparing it to the series and look at it from a movie-goer’s perspective. I’ve seen plenty of movies based on t.v. series and books and what I learned is to not compare them to their basis. You will just be let down. Just veiw it as a new movie with similarities to a series you’ve seen or a book you’ve read. Then you will start to enjoy movies more.
I for one loved it.explain why it is garbage because I don’t think that at all!!!!yeah it wasn’t like the cartoon but I mean COME ON!!!The reason they made it in 3D is because they had faith in it and so do I. I spent my entire weekend complaining about the percy jackson and hunger games movie but I didn’t expect everything to be the same. You’re just copying the critics.screw what the critics said ’cause I LOVED IT!!!!!
OK to all those who didn’t like the movie because it wasn’t like the story, are ignorant in movies all together. just look at all the twilight series, the first movies was horrible and totally did garbage to the book. As the movies progressed, the movies became a whole thing in itself. So if you didn’t like the movie, then maybe it will get better. It will not exactly fallow the cartoon show, but it will fallow the story line and become a thing in itself. I’m all for a sequel.
I watched it in theatre 2 times in 3d and have watched it regularly with friends and family atleast 30 times and we all love it!! I think it was great and we all have been patiently waiting for the second one and wish not to be left much longer!!! I seriously think others who post lot times always say bad….then go see and I love it…dont believe what everyone else says…we each have right to opinion even if only yes among all no’s!
I among family and friends would request a yes pleaseeee make second and third etc
The least m night could have done is get the fighting styles right. Water: Tai chi. Earth: … But they should have a stronger stance. Fire: tiger crane Air: bagua martial arts.
In my opinion. I liked this movie. It had great effects and the battle scenes were great. I have no idea why all you guys are talking down to this movie. None of you Hipicrits could make a movie like that. so you have no reason to diss.
This movie sucked man. People who support it… come on he had a 250 million dollar budget. Enough said. You think our tax payer’s money was well spent?
Look man it is crazy how people are critisizing this movie i cant i cant wait for the second part and regardless of what anyone says i love the first part and i wouldn’t change anything so please bring that second part of the last airbender on =) and with all the same people they did a great job in the first part
Sequel in the making. What to think?
1% of fans who liked the first Movie: Y’know, Nietzsche says: “Out of chaos comes order.”
Rest of the world: Oh, blow it out your a**!
