Batman Sues Christopher Nolan

Yes, you read that title right. Batman is suing Christopher Nolan, director of such films as Memento, The Prestige, (and more relevantly) Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Unfortunately the Batman in question is not the caped crusader himself, nor some vigilante wannabe. It’s not even a person with the unfortunate surname of Batman that is filing this complaint. No, Nolan is being taken to court by the town of Batman located somewhere near the south-eastern corner of Turkey.

The mayor of the small town, Hüseyin Kalkan had this to say on the matter:

“The royalty of the name ‘Batman’ belongs to us … There is only one Batman in the world. The American producers used the name of our city without informing us,” Kalkan told to the Doğan news agency.

Well that settles it. Quite why the town left it until the character had been in existence for 69 years is somewhat of a mystery, but it probably had something to do with the town receiving a bit of bad press recently and the whole region being in something of an economic downturn. Kalkan claims he was given the idea by a foreign columnist who suggested (probably as a joke) that they take the makers of the Batman movies to court.

I wish Hüseyin Kalkan and his town all the best with their bizarre court case but I have one final tip for them; you’re probably better off suing DC comics, who actually own the rights to the Batman name, Christopher Nolan is just an employee. Good Luck!

It’s not about getting the money they need, it’s about getting the money they deserve.

Ummm. They should get a life and more on. Why not sue Tim Burton for the first good Batman movies? They don’t deserve anything. stupid people.

Wow… that is absolutely retarded. Getting the money they deserve? LOL That’s perhaps the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. It’s a town name, get over it. Batman has been a character since 1940 when Bob Kane created him, are they going to resurrect Kane, and sue him too?

lmao… nice try at ruining a great character/movie.

This is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. I really want to know how this turns out.

It’s also worth nothing that The Dark Knight doesn’t even have the word Batman in its title.

Just wait ’til the residents of Superman Island hear about this.

My entire future career is based on the fact that, should I ever gain any sliver of success, I’ll be known as “you know, that guy who isn’t Chris Nolan.” Maybe I should offer to take the fall.
