Up and coming child actor Jaden Smith will star in the Karate Kid remake.
The ten year old son of Will Smith, who acted alongside his father in the 2006 weepie, The Pursuit Of Happyness, is said to be a martial arts fanatic. Daddy Smith is also producing the movie.
The Karate Kid rehash has been penned by Chris Murphy [er, can anyone find this guy on imdb? - ed.], and will follow the familiar ‘passive boy who learns karate from a quirky mentor to overcome bullies’ scenario.
The original movie, released in 1984, made the late Pat Morita a household name, but the same could not be said of its star, Ralph Macchico. Unlikely the young Smith will suffer the same fate. Will he be going quietly into the night? – somebody is saying “Aw hell no”.

10 years old? Really? I mean a lot of what made the original Karate Kid movies so great was the underlying love story involved. You can’t do that with a 10 year old. I say…bad idea. Get an older kid to play it.
OK Jackie Chan Is a great actor/martial artist But He’s Not good for the role.. Why remake a movie that was already a great film? Not being racist But enough of lets put a black kid in a role to make a film reach a certain audience… Smith’s kid cant ever replace daniel. All this film is going to do is make the title “The Karate Kid” look Like a bad “B” movie, just as part 3 with a girl in place of Daniel, subjectated the movie series in a bad light. Thats real stupid to make this title ghetto.
