Priest
Release Date: 13 May 2011
Starring: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Christopher Plummer
Director: Scott Charles Stewart

3D action-horror adaptation of the TokyoPop comic book, about a warrior priest in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire, who turns against the church to track down the murderous band of vampires who kidnapped his niece. Produced by Sam Raimi, it’s been described as a “vampire western”. Priest is not to be confused with Legion, which also starred Paul Bettany as an ass-kicking man of God, even though it’s directed by the same guy.

TrollHunter
Release Date: 10 June 2011

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark
Release Date: 12 August 2011
Starring: Bailee Madison, Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes
Director: Troy Nixey

It’s a conventional horror premise – young girl sent to live with her father (Pearce), and new girlfriend, discovers creatures in the home who want to claim her as one of their own. But the presence of Guy Pearce and Guillermo del Toro as hands-on co-writer/co-producer should elevate this to something genuinely unnerving. Then again, is del Toro the most over-rated name around? It’s a remake of a little known 1973 made-for-TV film.
[Critics: 58%] [Public: 5.8/10] = {Ranked: 15th Best}
Fright Night
Release Date: 19 August 2011
Starring: Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Toni Collette
Director: Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl)

Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin is Charley Brewster, the young man trying to convince everyone that a murderous vampire (Colin Farrell) has moved in next door. He turns to gothic TV celebrity Peter Vincent (David Tennant) only to find he’s not the tough vampire hunter he portrays. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Charley’s best friend ‘Evil’ Ed, and Toni Collette plays the mum. The 80s original was an enjoyable, well written comedy horror. This has upped the stakes with a near perfect cast of fun actors.
[Critics: 75%] [Public: 6.6/10] = {Ranked: 3rd Best}

scream 4 looks good. but I can’t help feeling it will just lead to loads of bad slasher reboots. I vaguely recall some bother in the summer of 97 or there abouts and a remake of happy birthday to me.
Red riding hood, Vanishing on 7th Steed and Scream 4!
Piranha and Saw movies are terrific, i love horror movies Scream 4 fun ……………………………………………………..
I am waiting for “Don’t Be Afraid Of the Dark” I saw the trailer when we went to see “Devil” and it scared the bejesus outta me! Its a shame they keep pushing it back!
Damn i just watched The Resident online today.. pretty good movie.
vanishing on 7th is out too and i think ill watch it now
That is illegal. If you’re a movie fan support films and see them in the cinema. Or download from iTunes. It doesn’t cost much.
if the cinemas never started robbing people then they wouldnt have the problem of not meeting their budget.. It is rediculous that they charge $15 to see a movie..thats the price of the movie when it comes out on DVD, let alone if you are going on a date or have children and take them to the show, Itunes is a monopoly and i wont support them sorry, I have like 4 different computers and will not waste my time having to reset my itunes so that i can exchange music throughout my dif computers. So until a warning or illegal sign pops up when i go onto a website see a movie i wanna watch click play and close a couple pop ups. I am proud to be able to watch a movie online for free. Ill be happy to be a critic too, bc i think i get to see movies before half of them do
Compare it to any other art form (theater, musical etc) $15 is nothing. $15 for an evening’s entertainment is not unreasonable. Is the woman you’re dating not even worth 15 bucks? How is iTunes a monopoly when you have the option to buy it on dvd, or rent it from netflix? Why do you need it on 4 computers? And even then, that’s perfectly possible. I dunno man, Avatar was illegally downloaded 16 million times last year, Kick-Ass 11 million times. Kick-Ass didn’t make enough money back to guarantee a sequel. Imagine if half those 11 million people had rented it, the filmmakers would be able to do another. It’s a shame.
nah man movie theaters suck and its not worth 30 dollars to go on a date into a crowded theater. More than half the time there are annoying ass people in there ruining the movie for all And then they wanna r*pe you with their prices on popcorn and fountain soda, a small bag of popcorn and a small drink comes to 10 dollars, and only costs them 50 cents maybe the theater buisness is the reasoning for all this downloading, think if they would charge less more people would come and then create a better revenue. Think a family of four pays 60 dollars to go to a two hour movie let alone concessions, Id rather stay home in the comfort of my own home lay with my girl on the couch and maybe even fit in a quickie in there at some point..and i dont download i stream them so in reality i am not doing anything illegal the websites are
yeh dude, last night I was with some mates and they started beating up some other kid until he was in a coma. I was only watching so its not like I did anything illegal.
Tis the curse of the Internet. Absolutely unstoppable.
Obviously, I have never watched a film illegally, but I can’t help but suspect that a lot of films would never be seen if people actually had to pay for them.
Plus, There are more films put out than ever and virtually none of them would have found an audience at any point in the entire history of cinema. In horror this was true even at the height of the VHS boom. A lot of old horror films no longer have any form of copyright and as a horror nerd I have paid an arm and several legs forking out for ancient VHS tapes to feed my habit. I seriously doubt any of that money gets to the talent either.
And let’s be honest the film industry has always claimed they were about to collapse. Would Kick-ass made anymore enough money to generate a sequel or did the word of mouth and illegal downloads actually make it look more popular than it was?
The Thing has just got a prequel. Carpenters film bombed at the Box office and it’s cult was based on kids watching it for free on the old puke.
wooohoooo!
i think ‘cabin in the woods’ is a slasher film.
hey everyone, did you see that? ‘don’t be afraid of the dark’s a rated R movie.=))
Could be quiet an interesting year with films but why do so many copy others
Red Riding Hood………Doesnt anyone remember A Company of Wolves
and as for the film about the dark taking people this will be very interesting to watch as I copy writted the story Nylathorp in 1993 after releasing sneak previews of it at a summer camp once
although Im sure it will just be a freak accident if the two turn out alike lol
Horror films are not made with much integrity these days, as so many directors rely on CGI, horrible lighting, bad scripts, bad actors and way too much bad music. I have now learned to wait for dvd or hbo with regards to viewing them, otherwise they are a major waste of my money and time.
Movies for profit and profit alone are the main problema. Too many fools jumping on the band wagon because they want to make a profit. They crowd the space from real horror writer/directors who are inundated by bs by the time they want to make something great; it has already been done way too many times, horribly.
I hope things change soon.love watching a very scary movie before I go to sleep. They give me nightmares, which I love!
Anal Destination
Great list I can’t wait to see some of these films, especially season of the witch!
scream 4 is jst tha one and also the roommates and i spit on ua grave en the rite.
I love horror films……. Who will reign this year?
I’m looking forward for SCREAM 4 and Final Destination 6.
I definitely want to see how Scream IV will end, wonder if they will finally kill off Sydney that would be unexpected! I can’t wait to see “Red Riding Hood”, “Mother’s Day” and “The Woman in Black”.
