2012 Movie Highlights
29.01.11 # Top Ten # 78 CommentsSnow White And The Huntsman
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Ian McShane
Director: Rupert Sanders
Out: 1st June 2012

This reimagining sees the Huntsman (Hemsworth) ordered to take Snow White (Stewart) into the woods to be killed but instead winding up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen (Theron). The dwarves are a who’s who of British acting talent – Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Eddie Izzard, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost – and yes there are eight, which means one gets killed probably. Tonally, this is a dark fantasy adventure movie. There’s another Snow White movie out in March called Mirror Mirror, which is a ghastly-looking kids’ version. This actually has an excellent trailer and may well surprise the doubters. Part of a planned trilogy.
The Raid: Redemption
Starring: Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, Donny Alamsyah
Director: Gareth Evans
Out: 23rd March 2012

Indonesian action movie (directed by a Welshman) about a SWAT team who become trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs. Advance word is that this is a highly inventive action piece, expertly paced and edited, the best martial arts movie in years (a rare genre these days), even if the characters aren’t all that deep.
The Expendables 2
Starring: Stallone, Statham, Arnie, Willis, Li, Lundgren, Van Damme, Norris, Couture
Director: Simon West
Out: 17th August 2012

The general feeling about the first movie was that it wasn’t as good as its line-up. That may change here with Stallone handing over directing duties to Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider). This time Schwarzenegger will do a full week’s shooting, Bruce Willis will do two weeks as the expected villain. With the addition of Van Damme and Chuck Norris this is now the greatest action cast ever assembled. Let’s hope they can do it justice with a compelling story or at least some stunning fight scenes.
John Carter
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong
Director: Andrew Stanton
Out: 9th March 2012

Civil War vet John Carter (Taylor Kitsch – Gambit in Wolverine) is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians (one of whom is played by Willem Dafoe). Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter the ‘Princess of Helium’ who is in desperate need of a savior. Based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel first published in 1912, this, astonishingly, went in pre-production in 1931 and has been in and out of development hell ever since. Directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E), it all sounds slightly Avatar. The first trailer wasn’t too impressive, but perhaps the movie will be better, once bigger fx are completed.
Prometheus
Starring: Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce
Director: Ridley Scott
Out: 8th June 2012

Ridley Scott returns to the Alien universe, but somewhere in development this turned from a straight prequel into ‘something else’. Indeed it sounds like the Aliens we know may now turn out to be little more than cameos. Still, Ridley Scott’s directing a deep space thriller and that’s something to relish. Rapace (Girl With’ Dragon Tattoo) will play a scientist on board the ‘Prometheus’ alongside corporate explorer Charlize Theron. Michael Fassbender will play an android. Scott has said it’ll be set 30 years before Alien and focus on the origins of the ‘space jockey’ creature seen near the alien eggs in the original. Scott isn’t the director he was, but still has great visual style.
Also Of Note: Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi, Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, Hugh Jackman in Les Miserables, Will Ferrell in The Campaign, Seth MacFarlane’s Ted

I think Christian Bale is a big mean saying he wont play if Robin is there.
What has Robin ever done to him?
Peace out x
There was a difference between dark knight and batman. Robin was never in the Dark Knight comic book
Wicked. 2012 is looking like one hell of a year.
The best movies of 2012 will be Dark Knight Rises, Avengers & Django Unchained. The world is going to end anyway so hopefully I will have the chance to enjoy.
just so you know… the myian calander didnt have a leap year… so by there calander the world ended about 7 months ago… you’re good
Prometheus! I couldn’t care less about the rest. Everything on this production seems to go in the right direction. The cast, the work in the studios and what has been revealed about the story. It could turn epic, in a way I can’t imagine the other movies.
Big big backtrack for Spiderman. they create 3 awesome movies with a great spiderman and mary jane…and they come back with this???!! not very thrilled. Theyd have to make one heck of a storyline for me or anyone else to be wooed.
why do they keep on changing the hulk? only thing worse than a prequel is the changing of a superhero. keep it simple people. mark ruffalo? seriously? I loved edward norton.
the only upcoming movie in 2012 I’m kind of excited about is Dark Knight Rises, only because I would love to see how Anne Hathaway portrays Catwoman. Never seen her do an action flick, aside from Get Smart. She beautiful but she’s gonna have to hit the gym 7 days a week if she wants to look anything like Halle Berry.
Batin I’m with you. I loved Edward Norton as the Hulk. Why? Because he really is your “every day average joe” with a gentle demeanor. Such an unlikely superhero that it works.
2012 (movies wise) will be epic! 2 reasons:
1. The Dark Knight Rises – Batman actually looks hopelessly outnumbered… How will he overcome the 3 headed-villain attack? (Bane, catwoman, Ra Al’s Ghul?)
2. Taken 2 – Liam Neeson back doing what he does so well…
1. The Dark Knight Rises: Christopher Nolan will End his fabulous Trilogy with The death of a character. Perhaps the Highest box office release for years.
2. The Hobbit: who wouldnt want to see more Beautiful LOTR in 3d?!
(1) Brave (2) Madagascar 3 (3) Snow White And The Huntsman will be the best 2012 movies.
I am looking forward to Prometheus and The Hobbit…kinda obsessed with both…they are going to be the highest grossing methinks…
The top movies in 2012 worth talking about – (1) The Dark Knight Rises bc of the awesome Dark Knight movie, awesome director and awesome cast. (2) Prometheus, since Ridley Scott is a legendary director and his return to space will be even more legendary!!!
This year will be epic mainly because of
1. Django Unchained
2. The Hobbit
3. The Dark Knight Rises
4. Prometheus
5. Lincoln
Highest grossing movies’ll probably be The Hobbit or The Dark Knight Rises.
Personally I think Tarantino will break new ground with Django like he did with Pulp. Inglourious Basterds was and still is my favorite movie from a couple of years back.
The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises will be the best movies of 2012, but I’m anxious to see the new Spiderman. I know theres no Tobey or Sam Raimi, but this one appears to be taking the same path as Batman Begins, which I think did pretty darn good.
I say Dark Knight Rises will make the most money. Then the avengers and do not know after that. but the Expendables 2 will be awesome film
Well, top is clearly The Dark Knight Rises, leading the a-team cast, it’s going to be exciting. But there are some honorable titles nonetheless, including The Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Men In Black 3, The Avengers, Resident Evil Retribution, Brave, Prometheus, Jack the Giant Killer, The Raven.. And others.
Avengers :: looking forward to it.
The Hobbit :: About damn time!
Dark Knight Rises :: Wasn’t going to watch, but now I’m intrigued.
Amazing Spider-Man :: Dear God why?
Skyfall :: Not another Bond movie with Daniel Craig! He’s got to be the worst bond ever! Ralph Fiennes should have been cast as Bond!!!
