Comedy Movies 2011 – Guide
17.12.10 # Movie Releases # 87 CommentsA Very Harold & Kumar Christmas 3D
Starring: John Cho, Kal Penn, Danneel Harris, Neil Patrick Harris, Patton Oswalt
Director: Todd Strauss-Schulson
Release Date: 4th November 2011

Harold Lee and Kumar Patel cause a holiday fracas by inadvertently burning down Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree. To fix the problem, they embark on a mission through New York to find the perfect replacement, stumbling into trouble at every turn. Kal Penn quit showbiz a couple of years back, in one of the odder career moves, to take up a post as Obama’s associate director of public engagement. Well, now he’s back. Both Harold & Kumar movies have got great moments/sequences but neither has been consistently great. The director is new to the series and new to movies, so it’s hard to guess how this will compare. The writers are still on board. This’ll be in 3D. Neil Patrick Harris is back as Neil Patrick Harris.

Jack And Jill
Starring: Adam Sandler, Katie Holmes, Dana Carvey, Al Pacino, Shaquille O’Neal
Director: Dennis Dugan
Release Date: 11th November 2011

Jack, a family man, must deal with his twin sister Jill, who visits for Thanksgiving and won’t leave. Both roles are played by… Adam Sandler. It’s another likely-not-very-good cross-dressing comedy. It’s another likely-sub-par comedy from Sandler’s production company. The jokes come from the screenwriter of Evan Almighty and Click, and the director of Grown Ups, ‘Zohan and The Benchwarmers. Katie Holmes plays his wife. Al Pacino plays himself, in a new career low.
[Critics - 4%] [Public - 2.9/10] = {Ranked: 2nd Worst}
The Muppets
Starring: Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Charles Grodin, Steve Whitmire, Chris Cooper
Director: James Bobin
Release Date: 23rd November 2011

Gary (Jason Segel) and his Muppet roommate ‘Walter’ help Kermit and Co. get back together and put on a show to save the Muppet Theater when it is scheduled to be destroyed. New character Walter (pictured above holding the ipod) is a huge fan of the Muppets, even though he is a Muppet himself. Rumour is he will be voiced by Michael Cera. There will be cameos from Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Zach Galifianakis, Ricky Gervais, Danny Trejo and Jean-Claude Van Damme, amongst others. It’s great to see The Muppets back on the big screen.
[Critics - 97%] [Public - 8.1/10] {Ranked: Best Of The Year}
The Sitter
Starring: Jonah Hill, Sam Rockwell, Ari Graynor
Director: David Gordon Green
Release Date: 9th December 2011

A foul-mouthed college student on suspension (Jonah Hill) is coaxed into babysitting the kids next door, though he is fully unprepared for the wild night ahead of him. Yes it’s the return of that ’80s staple, the babysitter comedy. This is director David Gordon Green’s second big R-rated comedy of the year, after Your Highness – he must work hard, or not put much care into things. Jonah Hill proved again he’s one of the funniest co-stars around in Get Him To The Greek, but can he carry a movie all on his own?
[Critics - 25%] [Public - 5.6/10] = {Ranked: 6th Worst}

Your Highness, 30 Minutes or Less and The Muppets are my top three most anticipated I guess. Hopefully one of the ones not on my radar will surprise me though.
Most of em look funny. Hangover 2 would probably be my top pick.
yeah man,hangover 2 it ROCKS!!!!:)
I didn’t think hangover 2 is really that good hangover 1 is the best one out of the two
hangover 2 is really funny.. you might also want to watch hall pass..
You forgot to list Just Go With It.
Didn’t forget, it’s in the 2011 Romantic / Romantic Comedies list. Seemed to fit better there.
Muppets, Hobo With A Shotgun and Paul are my top 3. The Johnny English sequel is my potential guilty pleasure.
The only ones that look funny to me are those that I enjoyed other movies in the line. Namely Paul, adore Simon Pegg, The Muppets, and Harold and Kumar. Of course they could disappoint and be nothing like past movies. Overall it seems like sad sequels and formula movies that will make 2011 ‘s comedy movies the same as every other year. Universal themes are a good thing, but beating a knackered horse just gets old.
Johnny English sequel, can’t wait. The first was great.
OMG!!! i can’t wait for the hangover 2..i wanna c it soo bad(((:
The first hangover was definitely a laugh! Hangover partII is a must see, can’t wait to watch it #BP
I’ve seen hangover 2…its too joke’zz ,ove itt !!!
2011 comedy movies I want to see more than anything: Muppets + Harold & Kumar 3.
comedy movies aren’t all that good anymore, just full of cheesy lines fueled by profanity and nothing more than sexual promiscuity that ranges from stupid and unrealistic ideas about relationships to gross, and…well more gross. My point is if you look at past films such as Dumb and Dumber- there’s probably many others- you’ll realize that creativity isn’t what it always used to be.
I’m not saying some comedy films aren’t funny, I’m just saying that they lack ‘originality’, that something SPECIAL that makes you laugh and wonder at how funny silliness and humor can be without resolving to FOUL MOUTH AND PLAY with…well GROSS, since every other film is like that anyway. Just my opinion, Later!
Every era has had its terrible comedy movies, what happens is time filters out the best and the rest ‘vanish’. So it may seem like there was a decade of high quality, with, say, Airplane and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but it’s just that all of the other terrible movies from then are no longer available.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas 3D will rock all movies of comedy in 2011
My top looks like this:
* Hangover 2
* Hall Pass
* Your Highness
* The Muppets
* Cedar Rapids
* Larry Crowne
Hall Pass, Take Me Home Tonight, and Your Highness, but Paul is up there too. For me anyway.
Haha all comedies up until hangover 2 have bombed. So much for 2011 being the year of comedy.
just go wit it is cool and hall pass
horrible bosses was my favorite comedy movie of 2011 so far. your highness and bridesmaids were also great. looking forward to 30 minutes or less and the muppets
