Action Movies 2011 – Guide
17.12.10 # Action Movies # 50 CommentsKaboom. These are the guys who walk away from explosions without looking over their shoulder.
Here are the biggest and best action movies, 2011.
The Green Hornet
Starring: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Tom Wilkinson
Director: Michel Gondry
Release Date: 14 January 2011
A newspaper publisher (Seth Rogen) moonlights as a masked crimefighter nicknamed ‘The Green Hornet’ accompanied by his Asian valet, martial arts expert Kato. Despite his heroic intentions, he is considered so disreputable among law enforcement that he is able to talk casually with known criminals and even do business with them. Rogen says the movie’s not a comedy, despite his presence, and with the director being Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind) how this’ll turn out is anyone’s guess.
Ong Bak 3
Starring: Tony Jaa, Dan Chupong
Directors: Tony Jaa, Panna Rittikrai
Release Date: 14 January 2011
Guess who’s Bak? Picking up where the last movie left off, Tien (Tony Jass) is captured and almost beaten to death before he is saved and brought back to the mystical village. There he is taught meditation and how to deal with his Karma, but very soon his arch rival returns challenging him to a final duel. Ong Bak 3 actually premiered a month earlier on iTunes, Playstation, Xbox, Vudu, On Demand, and Amazon (as is increasingly the way with distributing smaller movies these days). But here’s your chance to see it on the big screen. Word is it’s a serious step-down from the previous two installments.
The Mechanic
Starring: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland, Christa Campbell
Director: Simon West
Release Date: 28 January 2011
Remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson cult classic about a hitman (Jason Statham) on the verge of retiring who agrees to train up a younger man (Ben Foster). But the new guy is the son of one of his handlers and may have more sinister motives. Jason Statham is not known for his versatility so we can already imagine every expression he’ll pull in this. Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) is a so-so action director who’s not too strong on character and depth. Expect something passable.
The Eagle
Starring: Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong
Director: Kevin Macdonald
Release Date: 11 February 2011
The director of The Last King of Scotland adapts the classic 1954 adventure novel. A young Roman officer (Channing Tatum) sets out to discover the truth behind the disappearance of his father’s legion in the north of Britain. The main theme of the film is the “clash of cultures” between the Romans and the tribes beyond Hadrian’s Wall. All the Romans will be played by Americans. British actor Jamie Bell plays a slave. This is all sounding very political people.
I Am Number Four
Starring: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron
Director: D.J. Caruso
Release Date: 18 February 2011
Michael Bay is producing a teen-action movie. Nine aliens who (conveniently) closely resemble humans, flee their home planet to hide on Earth. Evil aliens destroy their planet and follow them here to hunt them down, in numerical order. Each of the nine aliens is given a guardian and will develop superhuman powers as they become adults. From the director of Disturbia and Eagle Eye. Think bad guy aliens in long trenchcoats, and alien hunk in high school falling in love and developing X-Men powers. Nothing interesting here.
It’ll be interesting to see how Mechanic turns out. The original was sweet and Statham never disappoints, so we’ll see.
Sucker Punch has looks highly promising for originality. The highlight in movies for the year… hopefully.
The 2011 action movies I’m looking forward to most are Conan, The Immortals and X-Men: First Class.
What is going on with the new Red Dawn!
Good question. It’s stuck on the shelf. They had almost finished it when the studio, MGM, got into major financial difficulties (the same that delayed the next Bond movie). It will get released at some point, probably Fall 2011, but it’s not certain yet. The Chinese government are already upset about the content though.
2011 looks like a good year for action movies. Top three I can’t wait to see:
1: Sherlock Holmes 2
2: Sucker Punch
3: Green Lantern
Three I couldn’t care less to see:
1: I Am Number 4 – If thats 4 I’d hate to be number 2
2: Drive Angry – Nic stop making bad action films
3: Haywire – Come on Gina stay in the MMA and don’t try the crossover game!
if u think nic is makin bad action films than u better stop watching thos movies….
Transformers 3D
and Fast Five……..will be greatest of all time.
Pirates of the Caribbean on stranger tides will be great.
World Invasion: Battle LA,
Sucker Punch,
Cowboys Vs Aliens,
Haywire has me interested, and I think the new X-men will be pretty good…
Also, why isn’t Unknown on here? or is it not action-y enough?
Unknown is in the thrillers list. It’s a bit more mystery based.
Why the hell are they gonna have Chris Evans play Captain America when he’s the Human Torch from the Fantastic 4? And Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern when he’s Deadpool from X-Men Origins? It’s gonna get too confusing, annoying and unbelievable.
They need to shoot Spider-Man 4 with the new guy and bring Tobey Maguire pay him what he wants and put him in for the Avengers movie whenever that comes out.
I’m 18 and from a point of view of a fan of the movies and going with girls Im not gonna keep going to see movies that arent getting 100 percent to them and arent consistent with the story lines and actors yes some actors are cocky and stupid but if theyre making the money and are kinda humanly decent give it to them whatever they ask for cause usually its for the best.
Guys loved Megan Fox in Transformers, me included, but I wold have fired her ass too if she disrespected me, the director, in public like wtf. It just seems like the new generation of actors Im gonna grow old watching arent as good as the Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Meryl Streep, Robert Downey Jnr, Anthony Hopkins and 300 more I like my generation but the new action movies are getting stupider and less heart is being put into it and more random stupid cgi and hot females less performance to the max and lets just throw a moving train or just blow something up what made our movies powerful in 70’s 80’s 90’s and up to 09 it was dialog that made the movie now its a machine :/
Well said!!
Battle LA was and will be the best action movie in 2011.
ok well my predictions have failed so far… battle l.a. and sucker punch were both awful! still have my fingers crossed for cowboys vs aliens though…
and you were right, Unknown was much more a thriller than an action flick, my bad.
🙁
this year is a year of action
I don’t like the transformers 3 cast. NO MEGAN FOX?
if megan did not insult michael bay I think she will not be replaced…
megan is the best for me…
Megan Fox…is she even serious?
I haven’t really heard about the story but it just sounds plausible.
She looks just like the girl somebody grabbed off the School of Poledancers and gave her a shot at being among the elite in Hollywood.
And she goes mouthing off to the director of the franchise that will either make her or break her? And that particular director being Michael Bay nonetheless, what can I say? The girl is either stupid or REALLY stupid.
She clearly doesn’t have the necessary PR skills to survive Hollywood and she DEFINITELY don’t know her place in the food chain!
Oh,well another pretty starlette goes down the drain. I’ll miss that beautiful well rounded butt, but not much more to be honest!
P.S. Plus it’s Hollywood! There should be the owner of another beautiful well rounded butt replacing her in no time! No worries, then!
Megan Quit, because Michael Bay wanted more Sexual stuff, get ur right info.
well…DRIVE ANGRY is really non-comparable.Nicholas cage is..and will always my best movie star AND this time again he showed me that he doesn’t dissapoint.PEACE-UP.
Fast Five was the best action movie of 2011 so far. The graphics used were fantastic and the action was fulfilled. Very good story line and most importantly.. lots of gorgeous cars! Reccomend all fast fans and others to see this movie!
fast five was a great movie, but i hoped it would have had more cars. i mean it showed that porsche a nissan 370z, but most of it was basically abunch of chargers. the 1970 was sick, but other than that? being a car junkie, i was thoroughly disappointed…:(
