Action Movies 2011 – Guide
17.12.10 # Action Movies # 48 CommentsTransformers: The Dark Of The Moon (Transformers 3)
Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Patrick Dempsey
Director: Michael Bay
Release Date: 1 July 2011

Megan Fox’s public insulting of Michael Bay has led to her getting fired from the series and replaced by newcomer-model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who plays Carly. The plot revolves around the space race and how The Transformers were involved in it right from the beginning. So real 60s history is being rewritten. Will it turn out Megatron assassinated JFK? I was left exhausted and bored by Transformers 2, this series is so inherently cool I’m waiting for someone else to take charge and concentrate on the interplay between the Transformers rather than Shia LaBeouf trying to score and hiding under a table.
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Ralph Fiennes, Bill Nighy, John Hurt
Director: David Yates
Release Date: 15 July 2011

Expect this to be a rousing finale to one of the most spectacular film series ever made. Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemort’s final horcruxes, but when ‘Ol Snake Nose finds out about their mission you can expect to see school totally trashed by Harry and foe firing enough bolts at each other to keep local glaziers in work for years. In fact their fight sequence will reportedly expand on what’s witnessed in the book. Even though Part 1 missed out on 3D, Part 2 will probably be converted in time.
Captain America: The First Avenger
Starring: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci
Director: Joe Johnston
Release Date: 22 July 2011

During World War II, Steve Rogers (Evans) volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals. His enhanced body enables him to survive being accidentally frozen for several decades. He is thawed in the present day, where he continues his fight with skull-faced Nazi ‘Red Skull’ (Weaving). This is Marvel’s first period movie then, at least in part. Chris Evans was a surprising choice, since he was already known for playing the much-more-physically-suited-to-him Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four. Most now accept Evans as Cap. But not all. I’d be more relaxed if director Joe Johnston’s last movie The Wolfman wasn’t an expensive mess. Why isn’t this being released on July 4th?
Cowboys & Aliens
Starring: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell
Director: Jon Favreau
Release Date: 29 July 2011

In 1873, a loner (Craig) awakes with no memory and wanders into the town of Absolution, to discover he a wanted criminal. As the town’s mean authority figure (Ford) is ready to string him up, mysterious forces attack from the sky. Former enemies must now stand together against a more powerful foe. The movie has actually been in the works for 13 years, with the graphic novel being published only when it looked like it was stuck in development hell. If you can get past the silliness of the title (I have no problem with it), then this has all the talent involved to suggest a cracking sci-fi adventure. Instead of being jokey/camp in tone, it’s all being played straight – which definitely is the right way to go.
Conan The Barbarian
Starring: Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan
Director: Marcus Nispel
Release Date: 19 August 2011

Sword and sorcery reboot. After his father is murdered and village destroyed, the mighty Conan survives as a thief, pirate, and warrior. On his path of wanton adventure and women, he chances upon the warlord responsible for his tribe’s destruction. As he tracks him, he must battle monsters, henchmen, and a powerful witch. From the director of underwhelming fantasy epic Pathfinder. How do you recast Schwarzenegger? Basically impossible, but Jason Momoa from Stargate Atlantis / Game of Thrones is gonna try. Nichols is the love interest, Perlman is Conan’s father, McGowan is the witch. It will be converted to 3D in post production. Shame the King Conan project (with Schwarzenegger as a wise old Conan on the throne) got canned when he was elected to Governor.

It’ll be interesting to see how Mechanic turns out. The original was sweet and Statham never disappoints, so we’ll see.
Sucker Punch has looks highly promising for originality. The highlight in movies for the year… hopefully.
The 2011 action movies I’m looking forward to most are Conan, The Immortals and X-Men: First Class.
What is going on with the new Red Dawn!
Good question. It’s stuck on the shelf. They had almost finished it when the studio, MGM, got into major financial difficulties (the same that delayed the next Bond movie). It will get released at some point, probably Fall 2011, but it’s not certain yet. The Chinese government are already upset about the content though.
2011 looks like a good year for action movies. Top three I can’t wait to see:
1: Sherlock Holmes 2
2: Sucker Punch
3: Green Lantern
Three I couldn’t care less to see:
1: I Am Number 4 – If thats 4 I’d hate to be number 2
2: Drive Angry – Nic stop making bad action films
3: Haywire – Come on Gina stay in the MMA and don’t try the crossover game!
if u think nic is makin bad action films than u better stop watching thos movies….
Transformers 3D
and Fast Five……..will be greatest of all time.
Pirates of the Caribbean on stranger tides will be great.
World Invasion: Battle LA,
Sucker Punch,
Cowboys Vs Aliens,
Haywire has me interested, and I think the new X-men will be pretty good…
Also, why isn’t Unknown on here? or is it not action-y enough?
Unknown is in the thrillers list. It’s a bit more mystery based.
Why the hell are they gonna have Chris Evans play Captain America when he’s the Human Torch from the Fantastic 4? And Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern when he’s Deadpool from X-Men Origins? It’s gonna get too confusing, annoying and unbelievable.
They need to shoot Spider-Man 4 with the new guy and bring Tobey Maguire pay him what he wants and put him in for the Avengers movie whenever that comes out.
I’m 18 and from a point of view of a fan of the movies and going with girls Im not gonna keep going to see movies that arent getting 100 percent to them and arent consistent with the story lines and actors yes some actors are cocky and stupid but if theyre making the money and are kinda humanly decent give it to them whatever they ask for cause usually its for the best.
Guys loved Megan Fox in Transformers, me included, but I wold have fired her ass too if she disrespected me, the director, in public like wtf. It just seems like the new generation of actors Im gonna grow old watching arent as good as the Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Meryl Streep, Robert Downey Jnr, Anthony Hopkins and 300 more I like my generation but the new action movies are getting stupider and less heart is being put into it and more random stupid cgi and hot females less performance to the max and lets just throw a moving train or just blow something up what made our movies powerful in 70′s 80′s 90′s and up to 09 it was dialog that made the movie now its a machine :/
Well said!!
Battle LA was and will be the best action movie in 2011.
ok well my predictions have failed so far… battle l.a. and sucker punch were both awful! still have my fingers crossed for cowboys vs aliens though…
and you were right, Unknown was much more a thriller than an action flick, my bad.
this year is a year of action
I don’t like the transformers 3 cast. NO MEGAN FOX?
if megan did not insult michael bay I think she will not be replaced…
megan is the best for me…
Megan Fox…is she even serious?
I haven’t really heard about the story but it just sounds plausible.
She looks just like the girl somebody grabbed off the School of Poledancers and gave her a shot at being among the elite in Hollywood.
And she goes mouthing off to the director of the franchise that will either make her or break her? And that particular director being Michael Bay nonetheless, what can I say? The girl is either stupid or REALLY stupid.
She clearly doesn’t have the necessary PR skills to survive Hollywood and she DEFINITELY don’t know her place in the food chain!
Oh,well another pretty starlette goes down the drain. I’ll miss that beautiful well rounded butt, but not much more to be honest!
P.S. Plus it’s Hollywood! There should be the owner of another beautiful well rounded butt replacing her in no time! No worries, then!
Megan Quit, because Michael Bay wanted more Sexual stuff, get ur right info.
well…DRIVE ANGRY is really non-comparable.Nicholas cage is..and will always my best movie star AND this time again he showed me that he doesn’t dissapoint.PEACE-UP.
Fast Five was the best action movie of 2011 so far. The graphics used were fantastic and the action was fulfilled. Very good story line and most importantly.. lots of gorgeous cars! Reccomend all fast fans and others to see this movie!
fast five was a great movie, but i hoped it would have had more cars. i mean it showed that porsche a nissan 370z, but most of it was basically abunch of chargers. the 1970 was sick, but other than that? being a car junkie, i was thoroughly disappointed…:(
