This is designed to be seen in IMAX, in 3D, and be warned – it’s only 40 minutes long. [Critics - 98%] [Public - 6.6/10] **Best Reviewed Of 2011**

A nerdy but kind-hearted blue macaw (Zombieland’s Jesse Eisenberg) is sent from Minnesota to Brazil to save his species by breeding with a female macaw (Anne Hathaway). But to win her heart he must confront his fear of flying, and outwit the likes of poachers, thieves and bulldogs. From the director of the Ice Age trilogy, this is more musical, and has a bright, vibrant visual appeal. Warning: any child you take to see this will want a parrot. [Critics - 71%] [Public - 7.2/10]
African Cats

Disney nature documentary about two cat families (lion and cheetah) and how they teach their cubs the ways of the wild in Africa. Expect lots of young animals taking first steps / less chasing down and mauling of zebras. There’s more than a little deliberate Lion King-vibe going on here. It hits theaters on Earth Day. [Critics - 66%] [Public - 7.1/10]
Hoodwinked Too!: Hood Vs. Evil

Little Red Riding Hood (Hayden Panettiere replacing Anne Hathaway) is summoned back home in the middle of her training with the mysterious Sisters of the Hood to team up with the Wolf and investigate the disappearance of Hansel and Gretel. The first Hoodwinked got over its poor quality animation with a clever script. The animation in this uncalled-for sequel looks even worse, and, judging by the trailer, the writing has become pretty weak too. Put this at the bottom of your priority list. [Critics - 12%] [Public - 4.3/10]
Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom Of Doom

Po (Jack Black), now a kung fu master, protecting the valley of peace with Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and The Furious Five – Monkey (Jackie Chan), Crane (David Cross), Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Mantis (Seth Rogen). But soon they have to join forces with another group of kung fu masters — Thundering Rhino (Victor Garber), Soothsayer (Michelle Yeoh) and Croc (J-C Van Damme), in order to defeat Lord Shen (Gary Oldman), an evil emperor peacock who emerges with a weapon so powerful, it threatens the existence of kung fu itself. Simple, if you liked the first one, you’ll like this. Dreamworks are planning a further four sequels right now. [Critics - 83%] [Public - 7.9/10] **3rd Best Reviewed Of 2011*
Shucks you guys, I feel so special.
I think this list goes to prove that kids are treated as second-rate citizens in movie-land. Not exactly an inspiring list of films.
Like when I was younger, my 3 sons (aged 6, 9 & 11), all prefer watching films that are meant for older children (e.g. 12a rated films). I think Thor is definitely their favourite of the year so far and the final Harry Potter part 2 is the most highly anticipated (after recently completing our movie marathon recap of all the previous HP films
)
We haven’t seen too many out of this list, it’s quite expensive for a family of 5 to go to the cinema so the films have to be worth it!
Tangled: Only released in the UK at the beginning of the year. Fun for all the family, great visuals and exciting action pieces. 4 stars
Rio: My 6 year old love it but a bit tame for my eldest (and adults). 3 stars
Hop: This was a great idea but wasn’t executed very well. Very festive but a bit of a scrambled message (see what I did) 2 1/2 stars
Kung Fu Panda 2: My wife took the kids to see this while I was away for the day (hate it when that happens!). They all enjoyed it equally as the first. My wife was impressed with the way the dealt with Po’s relationship with his two Dads. 4 stars
Ones I want to show them are
Rango: Looks visually striking and got good reviews. Also a bit obscure/different
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: We passed by the original film as it looked like usual U.S. drivel but were pleasantly surprised when my boys chose it on their DVD night. The character, Rowley, is fantastic, reminds me of Jack Black. This could be equally as fun (but still only rental calibre)
Lion King 3D: I had an inkling Disney were going to start re-releasing their back-catalogue in 3D. Despite the obvious evil money-making scheme I don’t think Ill be able to resist. Surprised they picked the Lion King as the first one (would have preferred Aladdin) but should look impressive with all those epic vistas, not to mention the whole *SPOILERS* wildebeest/Mufasa death scene.
Puss in Boots/Happy Feet 2: I’ll lump these in the same category. We all enjoyed the originals (except Shrek 3) so these have some potential (more so for Puss in Boots)
Muppets: This surely can’t fail, can it? Very anticipated.
Hugo Carbret: Really intrigued by this one. Seems like it could be quite a unique experience. 3D films work really well in the best kids movies, it adds to the fun and spectacle of it all. Scorsese will hopefully add a new angle to the field and has picked to great child actors for the leads.
Well that distracted me from my work for a good 15 minutes, thanks Movie Moron
RANGO stunk; it is designed for 7 year olds

Honestly, I hated Rango and Happy Feet 2. Rango was quite slow at the beginning. Not ashamed to say I easily got bored of it. I’d say my favourite movies were Tangled and Kung Fu Panda and Toy Story. They had great humour, even if it wasn’t remotely realistic. Rio and Hop weren’t bad but I liked Hugo better as it was really a different kind of kids movie. It really had a different feel to it than other movies. It was interesting but I must say, when I was about to watch it, I thought it would be boring. That really proves the saying,’Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.’

i totally disagree with you kctobyjoe… i took my kids to see it and they really enjoyed it and so did i… i thought it was really clever and original (my kids are 9 and 12)
I am sorry but rango was extremely boring to me and my husband. Very slow movie at the beginning not much going on we both fell asleep. . I will admit our son loved the movie and cracked up the entire time.
Huh the best kids movies of 2011 will be Kung fu Panda 2, Muppets and Hugo Cabret

I havn’t even seen Happy Feet and I was soooo excited to see it and it was awesome… out of all these movies I recommend this one the most… it’ll make you cry!

RIO was way better then RANGO becuase RIO had more vibrant colors and a better storieline and more interesting chatures and JOHNNY DEPP cant act at all even playing a stupid looking lizard
Flu-Bird, just saying, but Johnny Depp CAN act. He’s AH-MAZING in The Pirates of the Caribbean Series. But I have to admit, Rango was horrible. GO RIO!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 was totally the best movie of 2011. I absolutely loved it. I am a Harry Potter fanatic but this movie really was amazing. I have no idea why it isn’t on the list. It was amazing. They really have outdone themselves. I love harry Potter. Even Harry Potter haters will love this movie. Some of the movies listed were absolutely terrible. Such as kung Fu Panda 2, The Muppets, and Mr. Poppers Penguins. Then again that is just my opinion

Rango…worst movie on the list. lost my attention within ten minutes, was way out in left field and didn’t make much sense
Rio gets five stars from my family. The brilliant colors keep my two year old entertained through the whole movie (everytime) so I can get homework done! Couldn’t ask for more than that.
Husbands favorite was Kungfu Panda.
Excited to watch Happy Feet 2 tomorrow night, family movie and pizza night. I’m sure it will be a blast for the whole family.
