2012 Movie Trailers Roundup

New Movie Trailers 2012 (Full List) Picking up the slack of recent weeks, here’s a mega rundown of all the new 2012 movie trailers, linking to anything we’ve covered and filling in what we haven’t.

Enjoy.

Safe

Starring: Jason Statham, Catherine Chan, James Hong, Reggie Lee, Robert John Burke
Director: Boaz Yakin
Out: March 2, 2012

A second rate cage fighter (Statham) in the mixed martial arts circuit in New Jersey blows a rigged fight, and has his life ruined by the Russian mafia. On the streets he meets a 10 year-old Chinese math prodigy who was abducted and sent to America by the Triads, to aid their extortion racquets by storing valuable numbers in her head.

Our Trailer Rating: 5/10
Hints at a bog standard Statham movie, but he does still do action and line delivery like a pro. I wish he was given more top end material because he can own that too.

Red Tails (Trailer 4)

Starring: Nate Parker, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston
Director: Anthony Hemingway
Out: January 20, 2012

Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the black pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings during World War II. Until now. Given a mission so dangerous that all others have refused it, he pilots join the fiery aerial fray with something to prove and everything to lose.

Our Trailer Rating: 9/10
As a trailer, it’s very well put together, quite stirring, and far better than the previous three. Do I think the movie will be good? Absolutely not. This has all been done in the edit – Think Pearl Harbour’s trailer.

Haywire (Trailer 2)

Starring: Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Out: January 20, 2012

A female covert ops specialist, who works in the deadly world of international operatives, strikes back after discovering she’s been double-crossed by someone close to her in the agency.

Our Trailer Rating: 6/10
Gina Carano (a MMA fighter who’s barely acted before this) looks wooden, trailer doesn’t hide it well enough. Action looks decent. It should probably have made more of its excellent supporting cast.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman
Director: Brad Peyton
Out: February 10, 2012

A young adventurer (Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where none should exist–a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, his new stepfather (Johnson) joins the quest together with a helicopter pilot (Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Hudgens).

Our Trailer Rating: 6/10
Does a decent job of showing off its fun cast. Obviously plays a little young but that’s who they’re aiming for.

Safe looks pretty good, but you never know with Statham movies nowadays.

21 Jump St does look funny but I normally like Jonah Hill’s stuff. Channing Tatum seems to be doing a great Mark Wahlberg impression!
Chronicle looks great but reminds me of Monsters, e.g. nice concept but ultimately falls flat. Innkeepers looks interesting but I’ll probably wait to hear word-of-mouth for that one.

I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars films at the cinema so I am actually quite keen to see the whole lot on the big screen.

I think ParaNorman looks brilliant, better than Coraline anyway!

My kids loved the 1st Journey movie and this looks more of the same. Dwayne isn’t much of an upgrade from Brendan Fraser, they both get on my nerves!

You didn’t see any of the Star Wars prequels at the cinema?

        No :(
My idea was to re-watch all of the originals before going to the cinema but that never happened in time for ep 1 or 2!
I was in the process of showing my kids (then aged 6 & 4) the 5 films before ep 3, determined to catch the last one at the cinema, but finished the 5th movie the same weekend that it stopped showing at all the local cinemas!
Moral of the story: Force your kids to watch a movie every night instead of only at weekends! (this worked out for Indiana Jones ;) )
