But can The Cap really work in a world that has moved on? After all, he was created in a time when standing united behind the American flag meant that you were less likely to be investigated as a potential communist. While the movie is supposed to be set during the Second World War, will it look old hat in a world where the name ‘America’ is associated with the phrase, ‘f**k yeah’?

Meanwhile an interview in Vulture magazine suggests Tommy Lee Jones didn’t especially enjoy his time on the movie –

What are you doing in Captain America? I mean, literally: What are you doing in Captain America!?
“Yeah, I ask myself that same question every day! The character I play is the one you’ve seen in a thousand movies: the gruff, skeptical officer overseeing a team of talented, slightly sarcastic, specially talented soldiers.”

Captain America: The First Avenger thunders into U.S. theaters on July 22, in 3D. Its release in the Arab world is expected to be more muted.
