Fox has put the sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in active development and could shoot it as early as this summer. The screenwriters of Ed Wood and Agent Cody Banks are adapting the second novel of five, subtitled The Sea of Monsters. Chris Columbus is unlikely to direct, say the L.A. Times, but would stay on as producer. The lead cast members, including Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, would return.
With a $95m production budget the first Percy Jackson barely scraped home in the US ($88m) but performed fairly well internationally ($137m), doing just enough overall to prompt a sequel.
The huge legion of fans are desperate for another movie but also very upset at the radical and unnecessary changes made in adapting the first movie (something J.K. Rowling seemingly stopped Chris Columbus doing on Harry Potter). The studio would be wise to listen to the unanimous feedback and make this movie more faithful.
If it is filmed this summer, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters‘s release date would be some time in 2012.

UPDATE (OCT 2011): The release date has now been confirmed as 16th August 2013. It’s definitely happening.

True… I was SOOO upset!
You guys seiriously have got to stop complaining. You guys are acting like two year olds! The movie was great! I don’t know what you guys are talking about, this whole thing about how annabeth’s hair isn’t blond and so on and so on. It doesn’t really matter. All that matter’s is how good the actor for Percy is and how great the story line is. I know that the story line wasn’t really so great, but still if you don’t think about the book when you watch it. It turns out the best movie EVER! So I’m just saying STOP COMPLAINING! You guys have been complaining about how annabeth’s hair isn’t blond a million times! We’ve heard it once we don’t need to hear it again.

U guys need to understand something, the movie was good, I agree, but if u REALLY want to call yourself a loyal Percy Jackson fan, you have to agree that Chris Columbus totally BUTCHERED the storyline! The whole movie was about finding those stupid pearls. In the books, thoses were like a little sidenote that happened to be a convienience for percy. They also never mention Kronos, who is the centeral villian (besides Luke) in the books. We post about stuff that made us mad bc we know that there are people on this site that agree with us. If u r so mad about that, then just don’t post
Hey, william we post because we are trying to defend the movie I loved the movie. The movie STINKS if you compare it to the book, but if you don’t think about the book you really start to like it and that’s what happened to me. Now william if you were really a percy jackson fan you wouldn’t post stuff like you just did.

Wow. Just wow. I really dont get it. You are getting mad at people for sharing their opinion that the movie sucked. Its just weird. Here’s my stance:
I had never even heard of the series before the movie. When i told my mom i wanted to watch it se told me to read the book first. I was a little reluctant, but I agreed. When I read te book, i imediatly fell in love with the characters and te storyline. I was so impressed i read the second book too before i watched the movie. When i rented the movie, I was expecting a shortened version of the book that was tight to the storyline, but at the same time didn’t leave to many gaps. When i watched it, i was shocked at how much they BUTCHERED the whole thing. There is not one mention of the Mist in the whole movie. If anyone thinks that that is not a huge problem, then please post here so i can pray for you. I am sorry but really! I liked the movie’s constant action and suspense, but i didnt like the way the illustrated Camp Half-Blood AT ALL. I can understand if they didnt want to run the budget very high, but i would have been happy with a cheesy farm on the coastline even! Oops i am lising track here sorry but my point is the movie flat out sucked, yet it is still one of my facorite movies because it is a live illustration of my favorite book. Are you happy now?

oh my gods the movie was ok but i like JAKE ABEL(THE GUY WHO PLAYS LUKE) SOOOOO MUCH.HE IS PERFECT 4 HIM. CANNOT WAIT 4 SECOND MOVIE 2 COME OUT.IT LOOKS SOOO GOOD.THE GAL WHO PLAYS ANNABETH IS DYEING HER HAIR BLONDE 4 THE MOVIE. R U HAPPY NOW??? DO ME A FAVOUR AND SEARCH UP JAKE ABEL. U WILL LOVE HIMXXXX

Just stop hating on the movie it was good not perfect but good even though they didn’t stick to a lot of the details they sticked with the main plot that LUKE stole the lightning bolt. K???
They messed up the first one too much to make a second one in my honest opinion. They didn’t even mention Clarisse in it.
They could have done WAY better on the first movie- they made a lot of unnecessary changes,and the actors playing grover and annabeth didn’t seem right. They needed more of the half-bloods, such as Clarisse. I’m totally in love with Logan though… ♥
Anywho, if they don’t make the sequel better, I will rip my eyeballs out, and I will rip my arms off if the guy playing Tyson isn’t good.
I loved the movie (and the books i am waiting for THE MARK OF ATHENA) even if annabeth is soppose to have grey eyes and blonde hair.If you really were a percy jackson fan then you would over look that.I do.
At least be glad they made a movie and hopfully a second one.

I really hope they make a movie of the heroes of olympus and the kane chronicles. I am a HUGE fan of the book but they just blew it although i would like to play piper or zia from his other series.
At least Logan Lerman actually looked like Percy Jackson,I think Annasophia Robb should play Annabeth, Elizabeth Gilles should play Clarisse

I’ll just tell you.
Rick Riordon read and told his son greek myths as bedtime stories but one day he ran out of stories so his son told him that he should write his own myth. That’s when the idea came around. So Rick set to work and finished the first book, read it to his son and then his class. They gave ideas to Rick and also told the school about it which told the town and so on and so forth.
Okay could everyone SHUT UP ABOUT HOW HORRIBLE THE MOVIE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gods, look, it’s just a movie, everything’s fine. Rick Riordan himself supervised the movie making, if you want to complane about the movie complane to him. The books are great, the movies great, DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, gods.
