Rio Soundtrack (Song List) - Listen & Download (will.i.am, jamie fox, jesse eisenberg, ester dean)
The Rio soundtrack. It might not have seemed like it at the time, but Sacha Baron Cohen’s actually-quite-funny turn as a megalomaniacal ring-tailed lemur in Madagascar set a new paradigm. I refer not to the tactic of casting talented comedians in supporting roles in family-friendly anthropomorphic animations and letting them run wild, although this practice has become more common since then. I refer to the short sequence in the middle of that film (and the brain-poundingly long closing credits) when Sacha Baron Cohen’s king lemur repeatedly sings the I Like To Move It Move It chorus from Soul II Soul’s early 90s dancefloor classic. Those of you who do not have small children may have heard from those gape-eyed sleep-deprived friends of yours how the maniacal infant overlords of their newly toy-strewn homes took to this like repetitive quacking ducks to particularly annoying water. Strangely Soul II Soul’s original was a massive hit when I was about eleven, and I remember it going down particularly well with my age group then, although it seemed like some strange and exotic drug-laden forebearer of the illicit partying we were sure to do later. Then it became the refrain with which my infant nephew wreaked his terrible havoc, inbetween crying, falling into things and asking for juice. Strange.

But that film and soundtrack’s success at reaching its pre-school target audience has led to a whole new range of kidz-friendly Let’s Party animation soundtracks based on tinny thumping drum patterns, vocodered hip-hop stars slumming it, and lyrics about friendly animals having really fun parties. The Rio soundtrack boasts will.i.am (singing about having a nice party), Jamie Foxx (crooning like Joao Gilberto), a whole load of ‘reworked samba classics’ (which sounds like the kind of thing John Candy’s character from Home Alone might say), a song called Funky Monkey (it’s about monkeys), a load of songs about varying aspects of birdlife (the film’s two main anthropomorphic characters being blue macaw parrots), and lots and lots of pounding samba rhythms. Because they’re in Rio.

That the soundtrack to Rio also contains a song by The One From Flight Of The Conchords With The Deep Voice (also known as the contemporary comic genius Jemaine Clement) suggests an attempt to appeal to adult audiences as well, but beyond that small subsection of thirty-somethings who keep cuddly toys on their dashboard and still listen to songs about anthropomorphised animals having really fun parties, the cross-over appeal seems pretty minimal.

I’d like to get as much info as possible on who the singer of the intro of the song “the girl from ipanema” is, and where I could get that same full version of the song.

The original best and most widely known version of “Garota de Ipanema” is from the masterpiece album Getz/Gilberto, a collaboration from Jazz master Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, his wife Astrud Gilberto, and Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim

We loved the movie, just happened to take a chance and pick it up at Sam’s Club. Our 2 1/2 year old son loves it, especially the music. I was looking for an additional composition that is played at least twice during the movie. Once, right when Blu and Jewel are getting ready to jump from the cliff like a hang glider for Blu to learn to fly and then again just as they begin their trolley ride to Luiz. I don’t believe it has any lyrics. It sounds like a guitar, single notes cascading down and up. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!
