Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes – Trailer23.04.11 # Trailers # 2 Comments
Remember when you watched the old Planet of the Apes franchise and thought “wow, this is so good!”
No? That’s because, aside from the first one, the franchise isn’t any good. So does that make it ripe for rebooting? Take a look and decide for yourself.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Who Use Prepositional Phrases stars James Franco as Will Rodman, a sort-of mad scientist who creates Caesar, a Frankenape (coined a term!) played by the brilliant Andy Serkis. Assuming this new story follows the canon from the original films, Caesar goes on to be a Christ-figure for apes as they ascend and take over the planet, eventually taking the throne as Earth’s most evolved species until Charlton Heston and/or Mark Wahlberg comes to screw everything up.
As the trailer boasts, the VFX come from Weta, maybe the most innovative FX company working today. Judging from the clips it looks like the ape facial expression is top notch.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes releases August 5th, 2011 in the United States and likely the same month through Europe, though dates are still T.B.D.
I have to say, it looks a bit better than Tim Burton’s attempt a few years back. But the cinematography is too sleekly digital and some of the secondary performances look hammy. What’s your take on the latest prequarebootalmake?
