The Smurfs – Trailer

Kids will love it, adults will put up with it and critics will loathe it; ‘The Smurfs’ is set to hit our screens on July 29th and Columbia Pictures has released another trailer.
In the film, the Smurfs find themselves in modern day New York after being chased from their magical homeland by the evil wizard Gargamel. Hank Azaria plays Gargamel and he’s joined by Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Anton Yelchin, Katy Perry, George Lopez, Alan Cumming and Jonathan Winters. Sure none of them are major names but there’s definitely some talent in that list.
With the New York setting and the fact that it is part animated, it sort of reminds of the Disney film ‘Enchanted’; though I doubt it will be anywhere near as good as that. Saying that, the trailer has a couple of almost laughs in it. Almost.

It’s the best of a bad crop of Smurf trailers. The movie itself is following the template of the Chipmunks movie too closely. Moving into someone’s house and making a mess with the popcorn maker or whatever doesn’t fit.
Why!? Why make the movie this way!?!
It like when they ruined the 80s He-Man movie by having it set in a generic US suburb rather than his Pandora-esque home world of Eternia (minus the pink buildings)
