HORRIBLE BOSSES is a R-rated ‘attempted murder comedy’ in the vein of Throw Momma From The Train and (bits of) A Fish Called Wanda. All the big names have been cast in the secondary roles, which is an interesting choice. Fun Fact: Jamie Foxx’s character was originally called “C**ks**ker Jones”, but he asked for it to be changed, for being “over the line”. Here’s what the critics are saying -

Roger Ebert -

“The story involves three horrible bosses and the three employees who vow to murder them. What makes the movie work is how truly horrible the bosses are, what pathetic victims the employees are and how bad the employees are at killing. …It’s well cast. …Few are better than Spacey at regarding others with contempt and humiliating them with pleasure. …Aniston has acute comic timing.”

USA Today -

“Briskly written and sometimes acted with barely a straight face, Bosses is what Hangover Part II should have been: a celebration of slack-wits who find themselves over their heads when drunken talk becomes half-in-action plan. …Bosses finds laughter in cubicle chatter, such as if there’s a difference between being one or two minutes late to work. This is an Office Space for a generation that gripes on Twitter. …Bosses never crosses that line into the macabre.”

Horrible Bosses currently holds a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

From the director of some of Sandler’s better movies (The Waterboy, Click, The Wedding Singer) comes ZOOKEEPER, a movie designed to plug this year’s Dr. Doolittle gap. Fun Fact: The giraffe in the movie has since died. Here’s what the critics are saying -

“Beastly comedy for the lowest of brow …inane Kevin James vehicle covets the “Night at the Museum” audience with disappointing results. …Spends inordinate time on the tubby hero’s preposterous involvement with two hotties… The animals’ chatter is just as inane as that of any humans. While Maya Rudolph’s giraffe and Adam Sandler’s monkey are the vocal equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard. …The whole undertaking feels so calculated and insincere.”

Variety -

“Even the slapstick is so sparsely delivered as to replicate a long slog through the zoo, surrounded by fidgety kids. …The sequences with animals coaching Griffin on how to impress Stephanie rarely pop, and tend to be of the peeing-to-mark-territory variety. All that fleetingly perks up the movie is Nolte’s great ape.”

Zookeeper currently holds a 12% rating on RT.
