It’s been a momentous week for the Transformers franchise. So is there going to be a Transformers 4 or a reboot? And what can we expect from it?
A couple of days ago Transformers: Dark of the Moon reached $1 billion worldwide gross. That’s $338 million in the US and $663 million internationally. Incredibly it’s the first billion dollar grossing movie in Paramount’s 99 year history. And it’s one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time. This was no doubt helped by the inflated ticket price of 3D, but still it’s a great achievement, especially coming off the back of a generally disliked second movie.
So what happens now? Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay have had enough. Shia told MTV “I’m not coming back to do another one. I don’t think Mike [Bay] will either,” the actor continued. “It is still a hot property I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.” Bay wrote on his site, “I’m kind of sad to leave the franchise.”
It’s a common Hollywood tactic to pretend you want to leave a successful franchise just to boost your next payday. But after five years of Transformers blue-screen filmmaking and more money than they could ever spend, it could well be genuine.
If they do go, will it mean a reboot like Shia suggests? No. The producer has stated “Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Tobey Maguire. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn’t all bots.”
There have been rumours that Spielberg might direct or that Jason Statham might be the new leading man (he’s dating Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in real life), but trust me those will prove to be nonsense. Bay himself has said the Statham thing is untrue.
TRANSFORMERS 3 SPOILERS: One problem Transformers 4 will have is how to deal with the bridges burnt by Bay at the end of Dark of the Moon. Killing Starscream and Megatron in such a final way means there’s going to be a huge gap in future movies. Then again, could Megatron somehow be recovered enough to become Galvatron (the ‘re-born’ form of a destroyed Megatron)? And were they both fairly minor players in Dark of the Moon anyway?
Bay said he wasn’t keen on the Dinobots, but if he’s exiting then this would seem the time. They’re great characters, would present a fresh new spectacle on screen (giant metal dinosaurs trashing a city), and their prehistoric-form would offer some obvious plot opportunies if it meant prehistoric-origins too. The series sure does love to show the Transformers dropping in on earth’s history.
Unicron (the planet-sized Transformer from the original animated movie) is the villain most fans want to see. While this would be jaw-droppingly spectacular, it does present a huge logistical problem – how is Shia LaBeouf’s human replacement going to battle something the size of a planet?
Update: (February 2012) Michael Bay has been persuaded to stay on for a fourth movie. Shia is gone. Transformers 4 will replace all the human chracters with an entirely new cast. They haven’t decided yet how they are going to handle the robots – they may reboot them too, they may not. The release date is summer 2014.
Update: (November 2012) Mark Wahlberg has been confirmed as the new star, replacing Shia LaBeouf.

they shouldnt change nun it goo the way it is but…………………..i think what will be really good is mor battles and they find another autobot from somewhere and it should be a girl…or just get another autobot and make it a girl

I think shia should come back … there were rumors for the last harry potter film that they were gunna get a whole new cast for the last movie… that would totally not have been cool…. so i think they should keep the same cas… grease 2 wasnt as good as the first one because they changed only some characters and not all of them… therefore keep the cast for transformers 4 because the movies wont be the same without shia
i want the 4th movie to have Unicron and the decepticons fight Primus and the autobots for who owns earth and Cybertron.
I think for new characters they should put a bran new actress to play the main part. Some one they never seen. ME……..nah but that would be nice lol. Try a latina girl really pretty too. Maybe have a robot that can be a gansta too lol. I think you should keep the old bots but add some badass ones too, with lots of action and kick butt sceans.
y would u replace the cast thats so stupid u see how the last one truned out u should have never replaced megan foxx in the last one.
megatron should come back with shock wave in transformer 4 because prime will need help to beat unicron.they both beat unicron but in the end prime should kill megatron but sound wave escapes but after prime left megatron is still breathing
Ok heres what i think they could go back to the way origins and make up some awesome thing about how the allspark from the first movie was made or the battle over the matrix mention in the second one or told from the pointr of veiw from jetfire or the fallen as in the second movie…………. just a few hints
Hope there is one, sad to see shia leave. He was a great Character. Hopefully this movie will be long and exciting.
Please Please Please do another transformers i love the movies i really want the motorcycle transformers back i i missed them in the 3rd movie also can you possibly revive jazz. also i cant wait till the 4th movie and please bring back megatron or should i say gigatron or whatever you call it and why do u keep changing what megatron is first a plane then something i cant remember lost my copy of transformers 2 then he was a rusty truck with a fork just keep it at something i dont mean at all to be mean but make up your mind also can you revive Ironhide he was cool that stunk that Sentanal killed him also when you make the very last transformers you should make them all come back the Fallen, Sentanal, Megatron, Starscream, Unicorn or whatever but bring them all back please in the last one that would be an awesome ending to Transformers also bring back all of the Autobots even the mini ones they were funny.

i think they make megatron turn into galvatron, he should be in the sixth one with unicron, I mean thats if unicron can be introduced in the sixth one so that the epic battle will be very, very awsome. the dinobots should be in it as well and rodimus prime too! i would love to be in the movie.
i love transformers and i think that he should make a 4th movie because i bet it will be epic. I think that the decepticons that are alive will come together or send a signal to create megatron again. Then optimus prime will recover from his injury in the 3rd one.
they shouldn’t change the characters and megan fox should come back.
I am the biggest Transformers fan in the world and as such I feel its only right to give the fans a story arc that suits the true history of this franchise.It has to be a trilogy.Unicron has to be in the movie but, he doesn’t transform until the final movie in which the entire world is a witness to an impending doom as the autobots and decepticons join forces to fight him.Next,Optimus has to die, as all Primes’are willing to sacrafice themselves for the greater good,and lastly,Galvatron is born from the wreckage of Megatrons’ remains and only the Dinobots are strong enough to defeat him, as he is far more lethal than any other single decepticon.Can you imagine seeing a giant metal planet transforming in outer space but, you could see it from anywhere on the planet,it would fascinate and terrify…and that is box-office gold.I have just given you the best and most sensible plots from a true fans’ perspective.Now make it happen Mr.Bay!
