Transformers 4 Round-Up
8.08.11 # Sequel # 630 Comments
It’s been a momentous week for the Transformers franchise. So is there going to be a Transformers 4 or a reboot? And what can we expect from it?
A couple of days ago Transformers: Dark of the Moon reached $1 billion worldwide gross. That’s $338 million in the US and $663 million internationally. Incredibly it’s the first billion dollar grossing movie in Paramount’s 99 year history. And it’s one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time. This was no doubt helped by the inflated ticket price of 3D, but still it’s a great achievement, especially coming off the back of a generally disliked second movie.
So what happens now? Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay have had enough. Shia told MTV “I’m not coming back to do another one. I don’t think Mike [Bay] will either,” the actor continued. “It is still a hot property I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.” Bay wrote on his site, “I’m kind of sad to leave the franchise.”
It’s a common Hollywood tactic to pretend you want to leave a successful franchise just to boost your next payday. But after five years of Transformers blue-screen filmmaking and more money than they could ever spend, it could well be genuine.
If they do go, will it mean a reboot like Shia suggests? No. The producer has stated “Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Tobey Maguire. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn’t all bots.”
There have been rumours that Spielberg might direct or that Jason Statham might be the new leading man (he’s dating Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in real life), but trust me those will prove to be nonsense. Bay himself has said the Statham thing is untrue.
TRANSFORMERS 3 SPOILERS: One problem Transformers 4 will have is how to deal with the bridges burnt by Bay at the end of Dark of the Moon. Killing Starscream and Megatron in such a final way means there’s going to be a huge gap in future movies. Then again, could Megatron somehow be recovered enough to become Galvatron (the ‘re-born’ form of a destroyed Megatron)? And were they both fairly minor players in Dark of the Moon anyway?
Bay said he wasn’t keen on the Dinobots, but if he’s exiting then this would seem the time. They’re great characters, would present a fresh new spectacle on screen (giant metal dinosaurs trashing a city), and their prehistoric-form would offer some obvious plot opportunies if it meant prehistoric-origins too. The series sure does love to show the Transformers dropping in on earth’s history.
Unicron (the planet-sized Transformer from the original animated movie) is the villain most fans want to see. While this would be jaw-droppingly spectacular, it does present a huge logistical problem – how is Shia LaBeouf’s human replacement going to battle something the size of a planet?
Update: (February 2012) Michael Bay has been persuaded to stay on for a fourth movie. Shia is gone. Transformers 4 will replace all the human chracters with an entirely new cast. They haven’t decided yet how they are going to handle the robots – they may reboot them too, they may not. The release date is summer 2014.
Update: (November 2012) Mark Wahlberg has been confirmed as the new star, replacing Shia LaBeouf.
What do you want to see happen in Transformers 4? Should Michael Bay direct? Which new characters do you want to see? Leave your plot ideas in the comments.

no shia should be in it wouldn’t be the same with out him and carly should be you cant just take them characters out of the movie! and in the 3 movie there were Decepticons all round the planet launching the pillars and they didn’t die get them together to start a war but please don’t let shia leave!
What’s the point then? Shia makes the movie, he is a phenomenal actor. I will not even consider to watch transformers. Not a chance
I think you they should include bulkhead as
Well as some other unshowen transformers I
also like the idea of a prequel set during the
End of the war on cybertron wich would
Also be a good way to introduce other
Transformers that Mentioned before like
Bulkhead and arcee etc. and than show
Towards the end how small teams of
Transformers travelled to Diffrent planets
And optimus prime could be show heading to
Earth at the very end
I love transformers, but if they reboot does that mean no more Optimus or Bee? I love these robots! And just like Toby maguire leaving spider man…. It won’t be the same without to Shia
Cant wait!. As long as they keep bumblebee and optimus as 2 of ths main characters, i dont care what they do with the cast
I think that the decepticon sideways should come back to life
You have to bring in the dinobots and the insectabots then there missing blaster and omega supreme and ultra magnus as far as the bad guys there has to be stunticons and astrotrain and bruticus
i think they should keep shia lebouf in part 4 because it wouldnt be as much good without him. hes the main character in all 3 parts of transformers. When Megan Fox wasnt in the 3rd movie it wasnt as good without her. She was in all movies except part 3 and you cant just take a main character out of the movie it will just ruin it. Carly was good in the movie but Megan Fox would have been better because Megan knows how to do the parts/emotional parts very well as for Carly she shouldnt be in it. Michael Bay if you are reading this i really think you should try as hard as you can to have Shia LeBouf star as Sam Witwicky still. It would be cool if you brought back Megan Fox as well but i doubt that will happen. Dont add any dinobots in the movie neither because that would just make it weird and horrible because first you just had autobots and decepticons and then throwing in dinobots not a good mix. Just try your hardest to bring Shia LeBouf back in part 4 and dont put in any dinobots.
I personally think they should jump like several years into the future. in other words: when the auto bots became the maximals and the decepticons became the predecons. anyone who watched beast wars as a child would cream their pants if they made a transformers live action movie based on the beast wars(i kno i would)… with obvious tweaks as needed and maybe without the whole “traveling to prehistoric earth” thing
have it take place on earth in like the year 2050 or 2100? where the auto bots(or perhaps maximals) have become part of human society and humans are helping to rebuild cybertron or something. The main villian could be Galvatron or Scourge.. or maybe magmatron. even throw in unicron if they can do justice to his name.
and humans would help rebuild cybertron for one reason: its like in Dragon ball z… these overly powerful aliens coming to our planet and destroying it by just powering up and fighting…. GET OFF OUR PLANET!! lmao but jokes and ideas aside, if they used the beast era and perhaps the dinobots(or just the one dinobot like from beast wars) i guarantee old beast wars fans will see the movie in a heart beat. Anyone agree?
Ps. Depthcharge(from beast wars) could be a air craft carrier and or a submarine XD
(Dinobot and Depthcharge FTW!!)
tbh shia was one of the reasons i watched the movies >.< i really loved 1 2 and 3 actually but if he's not gonna be in the movies even tho the rest of the people were pretty good i think shia made the movies as well as a few other things what they were and if hes not in them then blah….not gonna bother to watch it with some second best actor..no sir
Megatron should come back as Galvatron. I think the Dinobots should make a movie debut. I dont like the idea to the release date to be summer 2014.
i think the fourth should be about before everything happened like it should be about the cybrtron war and how the planet was destroyed
I can’t wait to see transformers 4! The only thing that kind of ruins it all is changing all of the characters. They’re classic and changing them is going to effect the movie a whole lot. I wish Shia would go for just ONE MORE!!
As long as Starscream and Megatron are on it, I am on board to see it. Hopefully it will make up for the HUGE mess darkside of the moon did. I would have rather seen something happen to bumblebee and optimus prime than starscream or megatron
The dinosaur part sounds stupid, but keep Micheal Bay.They should keep all the transformers.they should also have Unitron in the new movie and have him revive megatron and the try to take over and kills optimus, then the autobots get revenge and kills them. There should be three new auto bots.a chevy tahoe,h3 hummer, and a charger, dodge.
