It’s been a momentous week for the Transformers franchise. So is there going to be a Transformers 4 or a reboot? And what can we expect from it?
A couple of days ago Transformers: Dark of the Moon reached $1 billion worldwide gross. That’s $338 million in the US and $663 million internationally. Incredibly it’s the first billion dollar grossing movie in Paramount’s 99 year history. And it’s one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time. This was no doubt helped by the inflated ticket price of 3D, but still it’s a great achievement, especially coming off the back of a generally disliked second movie.
So what happens now? Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay have had enough. Shia told MTV “I’m not coming back to do another one. I don’t think Mike [Bay] will either,” the actor continued. “It is still a hot property I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.” Bay wrote on his site, “I’m kind of sad to leave the franchise.”
It’s a common Hollywood tactic to pretend you want to leave a successful franchise just to boost your next payday. But after five years of Transformers blue-screen filmmaking and more money than they could ever spend, it could well be genuine.
If they do go, will it mean a reboot like Shia suggests? No. The producer has stated “Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Tobey Maguire. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn’t all bots.”
There have been rumours that Spielberg might direct or that Jason Statham might be the new leading man (he’s dating Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in real life), but trust me those will prove to be nonsense. Bay himself has said the Statham thing is untrue.
TRANSFORMERS 3 SPOILERS: One problem Transformers 4 will have is how to deal with the bridges burnt by Bay at the end of Dark of the Moon. Killing Starscream and Megatron in such a final way means there’s going to be a huge gap in future movies. Then again, could Megatron somehow be recovered enough to become Galvatron (the ‘re-born’ form of a destroyed Megatron)? And were they both fairly minor players in Dark of the Moon anyway?
Bay said he wasn’t keen on the Dinobots, but if he’s exiting then this would seem the time. They’re great characters, would present a fresh new spectacle on screen (giant metal dinosaurs trashing a city), and their prehistoric-form would offer some obvious plot opportunies if it meant prehistoric-origins too. The series sure does love to show the Transformers dropping in on earth’s history.
Unicron (the planet-sized Transformer from the original animated movie) is the villain most fans want to see. While this would be jaw-droppingly spectacular, it does present a huge logistical problem – how is Shia LaBeouf’s human replacement going to battle something the size of a planet?
Update: (February 2012) Michael Bay has been persuaded to stay on for a fourth movie. Shia is gone. Transformers 4 will replace all the human chracters with an entirely new cast. They haven’t decided yet how they are going to handle the robots – they may reboot them too, they may not. The release date is summer 2014.
Update: (November 2012) Mark Wahlberg has been confirmed as the new star, replacing Shia LaBeouf.

I think Bay is a hypocrite he said he dsnt like the dinobots but look what he did to the constructicons they combined into a giant Gorilla but still it looks like a dinosaur So whats the point of not putting the Dbots in the movie or film? Most of all im sick and tired of seeing optimus prime I want Magnus or HotRod I already saw what kind of a leader optimus is so I think its time to see new challenges and trials for a new leader and see how the story will flow without him!
I just hope that if he put the Bruticus as troglodyte also there that I will not see. YOU SAW THE FALL OF CYBERTRON Transformers? The dolls that game were pretty cool, until Bruticus was!
i perfer to have all the same characters for transformers 4 sam witwiki, carly, and etc including the autobots bee, optimus prime, ratchet, dino, syswype, ironhide and the two little robots, but the decepticon have to change the war should be on milwaukee and have the dino robots and decepticon fight agains the autobots. The autobots needs to be more be the same autobots and add like 4 more autobots

fans come on. Megatron course will be reborn as Galvatron and Starscream, Cyclonus! (it is, in Michael Bay, Starscream not die!). And for me, I think that optimus will thus die in quotes because this time the Hot Rod lead these guys there! then IF HE IS PUTTING THE FILM AS A LEADER, AND WILL UNTIL THE HUNT Galvatron last decepticon stay alive! So that’s it. Oh, Steven can do a reboot of the film, telling the story of Orion Pax and Megatronus, friends who caused the war!
Don’t take out tyrese…. you’ll lose the ladies….. Don’t mess with the autobots. You’ll lose everyone…. Must people just started actually understanding each character
Hey for TF4 I would love to see Hotrod because he became to new prime and Destroys unicorn.
i want to see what will happen from the ending of “dark of the moon” there’s got to be a sequel to what happened to the death of megatron, like is he going to come back as Glavatron and kill Optimus and the rest of the autobot crew. You can’t just stop one storyline and start another with out finishing the previous one, you will loose a lot of fans from doing that which is really pointless and and wouldn’t make any sense. im pretty sure most people would like to see the continuation of what happened in the last movie just like me and then start with a new storyline and nomore cliff Hangers.
The third movie sucked because they killed iron hide and they
replaced shia’s girl freind I hate when they replace people in movies and now shia’s leaving. I also think they should have
kept the twins in the third movie.if they replace prime

i think that they should bring Justin Bieber as “Sam” i don’t really care about the other characters just let Justin Bieber be “Sam” and yes there needs to be dinobots in the movie too.

Unicron will be likely be done in a michael bay sort of way…not saying a good thing necessarily…nevertheless, i see unicron not being a planet eater as we had originally seen. For example, unicron might be portrayed just like the cube…
Anyway, galvatron would be cool, dinobots, omega supreme, or maybe metroplex and tripticon or other teams that form superion for the autobots and menosaur or bruticus for the decepticons…many, many cool and intriguing possibilities!
In any case, can’t wait for them…prequel, sequel whatever…TF for life! heheh!
I’ve watched Transformers since I was a kid. It would be cool if they could use more classic characters, not stupid unknown characters like mudflap..I mean really? Mudflap? Wheeljack didnt look like wheeljack in the 3rd movie. I just sigh. I still like the movies dont get me wrong, it’s just that they could have had more characters we remembered that are wanted to be scene. My favorite would be Astrotrain, Blitzwing and soundwave with original voice for decepticons, Warpath, Omegasurpreme and sideswipe for Autobots. If you want familys to go see it, leave out the obscene language and weird scenes. Avengers was a classic with intense action with no cursing and no inappropriate scenes. Transformers 4 could do that.Focus more on Autobots and Decepticons. Dont want to have to wait a half hour to remind me that it’s a movie about Transformers. Well it’s just to wait and see what they come up with. It’ll be watched anyway cause it Transformers. Pleeeeeaaaaaasse may they do a good job.
