Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Contagion’ – Trailer & Poster
14.07.11 # Trailers # 4 Comments
Remember when they announced Soderbergh was directing a thriller about a super contagious virus and you thought “Well that’s cool, I wonder how he’ll make it stand out from Outbreak and Andromeda Strain and other, dull, run-of-the-mill end-of-the-world-due-to-a-virus movies that aren’t 28 Days Later?”
Answer: he didn’t.
You wouldn’t know this was directed by Soderbergh unless you’d already been following the film (a film nerd like me) but for the rest of the populace? Probably not. I’m sure the cast will elevate this thing to a level above it’s generic B-movie roots, but will it be enough?

I think it’ll be a solid piece of work. It’s frankly not hard to be better than Outbreak, which spent most of its time with Dustin Hoffman in a helicopter chasing a monkey. I would like to have seen some sort of scientific team working at lab level in this trailer, The Andromeda Strain focused entirely on that and it was compelling because of it.
I was going to say the same thing. The original Andromeda Strain is anything but run of the mill. It’s about the science not the effect, but the stuff in the town is eerie.
This looks interesting.
It looks OK but a few things stand out
1) What happened to Jude Laws accent?
2) The Titles/Poster look rubbish, very amateur
Not sure why but I always set Andromeda Strain and Phase IV on the same shelf . . . More to do with atmospherics than action or close up gratuitousness.
Carriers and Right At your Door, to my mind, have been the better of the recent films relating to infection/contagion (that don’t include zombification or some alien life form).
This one looks to be a larger production and hopefully, as has been said, will also have a little more depth than Outbreak (which I have one shelf up from my Disney collection).
