Wrath Of The Titans – New Trailer24.02.12 # Trailers # 5 Comments
It seems a tad mean that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Wrath of the Titans is being heralded as the sequel nobody asked for. Can’t we all instead think of it as a surprise bonus sequel? Like a gurgling twin sibling popping out from between ma’s legs, when only one baby had been forecast. Aw… er, anyway, a new trailer for Wrath of the Titans has just landed.
Way back in the mists of time, when Warners and Legendary were toiling on their remake of so-so early ‘80s mythical actioner Clash of the Titans, they toyed with the idea of basing that remake on a spec script written by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides entitled Wrath of the Gods. The plot of that screenplay involved the Greek deities of ancient legend coming under threat from their ghastly forebears, the Titans, requiring a human hero to save the day.
As it happened, Clash of the Titans took a different direction, while the Parlapanides’ script instead formed the basis of the Universal and Relativity Media co-production Immortals, which was released last year to tolerable box office and toxic reviews. Still, rather weird then that Wrath of the Titans arrives in multiplexes at the end of next month apparently telling the story of the Greek deities of ancient legend coming under threat from their ghastly forebears, the Titans, requiring a human hero to save the day.
Whatever the thread of fact in that spaghetti of innuendo, the indisputable facts about Wrath of the Titans are that Sam Worthington is back as Perseus, while Liam Neeson returns as Zeus. Once again playing Zeus’ dastardly brother Hades is Ralph Fiennes, while Carlos star Edgar Ramirez is a new addition as Ares, the god of war. Taking over as director from the departed Louis Leterrier is Jonathan Liebesman – just tapped up for Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.
