Prometheus – Viral Marketing Starring Guy Pearce

Prometheus Viral
For those of you who don’t know TED, it is a series of lectures about any and all topics, ranging from science to sociology to entertainment. A few years back, J.J. Abrams gave a great talk about mystery and it looks like TED’s connection to the entertainment industry did not stop there.

In a stroke of marketing inspiration, a new (hopefully) viral video has surfaced of Guy Pearce giving a TED talk in character. And, for those of you not in the know, that character is Peter Weyland, the fictional entrepreneur whose name is seen on the logo of the corporation that funded the Nostromo in Alien.

I liked it more the second time I watched it. First time some of the edits and his accent were a bit jarring. On the plus side it’s viral marketing that is actually worth watching. On the minus, I did find it, I don’t know, faintly silly? As a scenario, him coming out to a crowd that large and giving that speech, just didn’t feel authentic.

I liked how excited he was about lightbulbs.

Loved it. Definitely seemed a little over the top and it’s a sad state when TED talks are about people’s company’s making themselves better rather than about research and cool, new, world-changing ideas…I realize how ridiculous this sounds. Anywho, loved it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it. A bit over the top? Yes. But over the top of what? I love that it’s showy and dramatic. Hells yes.

Can’t believe that I’m excited for this movie now!
