And yes, it features that BAAAAAAMMMHHHH noise – the blaring bullhorn sound which now seems to be the essential accoutrement to the audio track of every post-Inception blockbuster. But what else do you get in the new trailer for Marvel’s upcoming uber-blockbuster? Why, nothing less than a heavy dose of superheroes vs. spaceships smackdown.
As it happens, it is hard to escape the impression that showcased action scenes of an Earthly metropolis being used as a cosmic battlefield are Transformers: Dark of the Moon all over again – particularly at the end of the clip when that giant robo-snake appears (the snake, incidentally, looks not unlike a mechanical version of the Midgard Serpent, which in Marvel continuity and Norse myth alike is offspring of Loki and an arch-foe of Thor).
With the emphasis so squarely on the action, the actors don’t get much of a look in, with it being left to Robert Downey Jr. to inject a soupcon of charisma into the trailer’s proceedings. Oh, and the CG Hulk still doesn’t look bang on the money.
But if the new clip underwhelms a shade, then it is also hard to escape the conclusion that Marvel and director Joss Whedon are still keeping significant surprises in store – maybe all the way up until The Avengers opens on 4 May (27 April in the UK, where it has just been idiotically renamed Marvel Avengers Assemble, in order to avoid confusion with the ’60s telly show).

I’m on board, The Avengers promo material was underwhelming as first (given the potential), but this and the superbowl trailer finally flag up how much fun this is all going to be. Can’t wait.
That is the most unnecessary UK title change of all time. Fans of the 60s Avengers are now in their late 50s, not likely they’ll be turning out either way, or that they’re dumb enough not to tell the difference.
What does red-headed hot chick do? Seriously, what in the world is she good for? A friggin HAND PISTOL? Are you serious???
Please God, don’t me tell that she’s just there for her looks.
Other than that, I get more excited about this movie with each passing trailer. I’m not expecting a fantastic story or anything, but looks like it’s gonna be loaded fun and action!
She was a very good PA in Iron Man 2, and when you’ve got an alien invasion on your hands you definitely need a good one to keep across everything.
I saw her in Iron Man 2, but all she did was matrix moves against some seriously over-rated guards. I’m not sure that helps against gigantic robots with lasers from space. She’s not a quote “super-hero” is all I’m saying.
Actually I’ve heard she saves the day by shooting the alien leader in the foot, accidentally while trying to holster her weapon.*
*May not be true.

With all these doomsday scenarios, alien invasions, giant robots and monsters, I have to ask. What’s up with New York?

I think one thing they should do is raise the green level in the color balance for the Hulk. He’s green, a vibrant green, not some pale olive green. Next he’ll be baby poo yellow

Chick with red hair… its blackwidow she can hold her own read the comics. watch the cartoons!
She can kick ass! even manages to last more than a few seconds fighting the the hulk in one battle not many can do that!
/agree with G the Hulk should be greener and I wonder if he is going to go on a full on rage fury and beat the stuffing out of the rest of the Avengers like in the comics would pay to see that!!
