The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

It just doesn’t seem to be an Avengers group without Scarlet Witch and the Vision. I was never a wasp or antman fan. I don’t think the Black Panther adds much to the lineup if you keep Hawkeye and Black Widow. Of course, I am using some characters from the past, but that is what I remember as a fan. I would not pull Spiderman in on this, and I would keep Fantastic Four separate, as well as XMen.
YOUR RIGHT, U PULL IN CHARACTER THAT ARE NEW TO THE SILVER SCEEN BUT NOT TO THE STORY LIKE THE KREE CAPT. MAR-VEL & MRS MARVEL
Remember people what made the movie so good was the time it took in leading into the main action. That means that each hero had there good time on screen. You cannot hopefully think that adding three or four more avengers is going to be positive for the next movie. Spider man and wolverine became Avengers recently in the comic books. So you would have to rule them out from being in the next one. I think that marvel will only go for old school and authentic avengers, like The vision, quicksilver, the scarlet witch and the black panther, ant-man, and the Wasp. Pick two out of that group and there you will have the next two avengers. I think it will probably be the vision, because of agent Coulsin’s love for the team, and also because it can led into an Ultron scenario. And the black panther, because of the advanced scientific technology that T’chala’s (black panther) government possess in the kingdom of Wakanda in Africa. You see Stark would love to visit Wakanda and take a look at there technology. Which would bring some bad blood between Iron man and the panther. Also adamtinum and vibranium originate from Wakanda, which is the make up of Captain Americas shield.
Deadpool. Ghost rider(maybe). Wolverine. War machine. The thing+hulk=win. Sony, I am not going to watch your movie.
Id love to see Spiderman in the next Avengers but i cant see it as Avengers is a joint effort with Marvel and Disney. The reboot of Spiderman is a Columbia Pictures film. Cant see them selling the rights to Disney
The Avengers was the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen. I think it even matches The Dark Knight considering already the avengers is a movie I can watch over and over again. It would be sweet to see ant-man and wasp in the sequel but realistically I can see them just adding spidey and wolverine. Especially because they’ve both got new movies coming out before the avengers sequel so pay attention to the special endings to those ones. And I know it kinda skips ahead a little but I think it would be bad ass if they would skip the avengers first two encounters with Thanos and just go with the infinity gauntlet story just because it’s so epic. And my idea for a sick 3rd movie could be the marvels civil war which by then they’d have to have ant-man. But those in my opinion are the avengers biggest events
I wanna see some Skrulls!!!
If the Avengers do fight Thanos in the next movie they will need all of the power they can get. They will need the Likes of the Silver Surfer, Dr, Strange, The Fantastic 4 and who ever else they can get. This will be the ulimate in a team up movie to stop a almost unbeatable opponet. For good meausre they might want to throw in Galatus as well.
spiderman, its not about sony and disney… its about marvels!!
My friends and I thought that mixing the DC universe with the Avengers next time would be pretty cool. I would definately enjoy watching Batman whoop some ass along side Iron Man
the gaunlet ( TIME , SPACE , REALITY ) IF THAT WAS THE CASE
Actually, Batman would be nice to iron-man, Cause we don’t want to see good-hero beat a good-hero. We want to see team-work!
thanos would make an ideal villain in part to because in the comics he is an enemy of the avengers. also thanos is obsessed with death and wants to please her and tries to become a god using the cosmic cube. i would like to see ant man and wasp added to the avengers dont really care to much about black panther if they added him it wouldnt hurt. however i dont see how they could fit in dr.strange.
I want to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange, and Wasp.
For plot, I’d like to see Thanos arive on earth and use it’s link to Asgard to launch an invasion to steal back the gauntlet from Odin’s vault. Maybe Odin predicts this move and scatters the six gems around the earth, making a “quest” to retrieve them. By the end of Avengers 2, Thanos has defeated the heroes, reasembled the gauntlet, and eliminates half the life in the universe. The second movie in the best trilogies are always down-turns that see the villians triumphant and the heroes on the ropes.
Avengers 3 should be based on the infinity gauntlet. The heroes come back and finally beat Thanos.
B-I-N-G-O-!!!!!
I say no to all the antmans and wasps and black panthers. I should be Wolverine added. If you have Apocalypse, then you need someone from the X men. Not to mention Wolverine was an original avenger. Just sayin
WOLVERINE JUST NEED TO BRING BACK THE X-MEN ,AFTER THE CHILDREN OF THE ATOM .THEY NEED ANOTHER OVERHAUL . BESIDES AVENGERS ALREADY GOT AN IRON A _ _ HOLE NOT TO ALSO MENTION THAT PRICK ANT-MAN WE GOING HAVE TO DEAL WITH , AND THAT B_T _H JANN . WE DONT NEED ANOTHER IRON A _ _ HOLE WITH CLAWS. ARE SHOULD I SAY ANT-I-MAN-TIUM (u no what i mean .)-A _ _ HOLE … WITH CLAWS .
i think a sequel would be awesome but they should include spiderman, war machine , wolverine and black panther, who the hell wouldnt pay to see a movie with captain america , thor, ironman, hulk, hawkeye, black widow, fury , black panther, war machine, spidey and wolverine. who the hell wouldnt. Also thanos should definatly be villan. maybe make black panther more realted to shield.
with them it’ll not be cool…the x-men and avengers are enemies, spiderman would not be so cool because there are robots and the spiderweb wouldnt distroy it war machine is in the iron man movie he’s just… a militar soldier… what the fuck are you thinking!!!!
WHO GOT THAT KIND OF MONEY ? THATS ALOT OF MONEY U TALKING ABOUT.U THINK ROBERT WOULD DO IT FOR breast awareness or FREE OR FOR A DRINK.THE ONLY REASON THEY WERE ABLE TO GET ALL THOSE ACTORS IN EXPENDABLES BECAUSE THEY WERE BROKE. THE HIGHEST PAID ACTORS WAS JASON , ARNOLD DID IT FOR VOTES AND JET DID HIS OWN STUNTS. THEY SAVE A LOT OF MONEY ON THERE CAR INSURANCE
I think that could be more villians than good guys like in ultimate avengers you know… but it’ll be so cool!!!!!
I imagine this will be a fairly unpopular opinion, but I’d really like to see Loki back as an avenger this time… after all, he is badass, and I’m not convinced he was ever evil- just a bratty child with brother issues…
