The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I WANT DR.DOOM!!!!
If Thanos is the villian for Avengers 2, they need to seriously beef-up the Avengers lineup.
Ok, let me clarify, if Thanos shows up in possesion of the Infinity Gauntlet , they need more cosmmic level members. Thor and Hulk are the only two with a chance of defeating a normally powered Thanos. Omnipotent Thanos defeated or killed every major character during the Infinity Gauntlet story line.
I agree that the villain at the end of the Avengers is Thanos, but I think they would be remiss tip not give some kind of villainous head-nod to Ultron in any sequel that is made.
As far as herpes are concerned, I would like to see The Vision, Scarlet Witch, and possibly her brother Quicksilver. Whoever they pick, they should introduce another female character for sheer sex appeal. This would make Scarlet Witch or The Wasp both likely choices. Of course if the Wasp does appear, including her husband Giant-Man becomes almost mandatory. I think that if they bring in The Black Panther, you’ll see Black Widow head off to her own film franchise because their martial arts based powers/skills are too similar to share the same screen.
I dont think we will be seeing any Spider-Man or Fantastic Four cross-over.
Anyone who thinks that wasn’t Thanos at the end doesn’t know their comics. Thanos first appeared in Iron Man way back in the 70′s. And for anyone who didn’t take notice, go back to the Thor movie and look for the Infinity gauntlet in the treasure room. Thanos all by himself will give the first movie Avengers all they can handle. If he gets the infinty gauntlet an infusion of “new” Avengers would certainly be in order. If the Ant-Man and Black Panther movie acually happen count on them to be in the A2 sequal. But Dis/Marvel had better sign Downey for more movies after IM3 or there will be alot of upset peps out there.
Actually, he’s signed on for 6 movies, so he still has one left after Iron Man 3 and Avengers 2.
What about Namor and throw a water element to the movie, you have air and land covered. Sub Mariner would be an awesome addition in my mind, plus he can come out of the water on land and he can fly as well. great addition to the team
It would be very cool to bring Moondragon into Avengers 2 to help fight Thanos!!
I think that X-MEN should be in the sequel to avengers
For Avengers 2 add Wolverine, Spiderman, Storm, Black Panther,
and maybe WASP. Marvel, Sony and Fox should work together to bring in The Wolverine And Spidey. They both were part of the Avengers at one time or another. Adding those two would be better than say Ant-Man.
There’s so many characters that should be in: Ant-Man, Wasp, Vision, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and the list goes on. I’d be happy if even 1/4 of these make it in. I’m personally hoping for Dr. Strange, Black Panther, The Vision, Ms. Marvel, and Ant-Man.
i was thinking character from x-men like wolverine, shadow cat or storm….or the winchester brother…sam and dean joins the avengers, getting a new height for avengers….
For the new Avengers it would ne very cool if Spiderman, wolverine, blade, ghost rider, the punisher, the fantastic 4, daredevil,
And black panthers and deadpool
it actually looked more like modok with a body
I think vaiom and war michine should jion the tream But vinom should be one of the Vilins
Why are so many people talking about War Machine being in the next Avengers? Robert Downey Jr. is still signed on for at least one more Avengers movie, and they are not going to use up an available character spot with what is essentially another Iron Man.
once they make the new amazing spiderman, they should get permission for Andrew Garfield and his slinging suit (plus black panther and ant man) a try in the sequel…
In which NEEDS to be made.
