The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Note that both the tesseract and the Infinity gauntlet (…with or without gems?!?) are in Asgard right now so in THOR 2 Thanos will have a part probably sending the Mangog to destroy Asgard and to steal their power treasures… the other avengers probably will appear in Iron Man III (Ant man… The Vision…) and i’m agree with Mandarin as enemy… we will see … the whole saga is just at the beginning! Everything will end an AVENGERS 3 —-
wadd bout the hulk
I didn’t want to see Agent Coulson get killed off in the movie but like Morg said, no body = no death, therefore i’m hoping for a suprise…..
I wish they would add spiderman because he I one of my favorite superheros of all time and also they should add wolverine that would be so kick ass
ADAM WARLOCK nuff said.. if your bringing out Thanos this guy is a must.
i researched about iron man 3, and it says there that thanos is a preview of the next iron man movie. so that means there’s a chance that thanos will not be the villain in the next avengers movie.
Iron Man 3′s villain is played by Ben Kingsley and it’s based on the Extremis storyline. It’s about nano technology.
damn I want to see spiderman so bad though sony erased all of my hopes about it
I think that Ant-Man and Wasp should be put in and show how they got there powers, also i think you should show how Ant-Man doesnt like violence and everything like that.
WOLVERINE+AVENGERS whole new ball game!!
wot is it wiv spiderman he is the worse superhero ever jog him on all together
I loved the movie, wanted to see iron man use more weapons like his uni beam. Or Thor super charge him with lightning. Iron man should have activated his other suits as well
Thor did super charge Iron Man during their fight scene so homage was paid to that.
THANOS will be the next villain in AVENGERS II at 100% probably handling the cosmic cube (the tesseract as it called now) and later the infinity gauntlet (AV III) but I’m supposing that he will appear also in THOR II sending the MANGOG to destroy Asgard…as far as CAP & IRON MAN… the Red Skull again and probably the Mandarin…Agent Coulson (rip) will become the Vision and both Ant man & Doc Strange will appear in future…BUT the presence of Thanos presume the apparition od ADAM WARLOCK too…note that many of plots have already been written in old marvel comics… they just have to adapt them to make a good movie as they done for AVENGERS that is beautiful…I’ve already seen it here in Italy.
maybe a Marvel vs DC team up
the Kree warrior Captain Marvel or Warlock should be brought….
They should include Ant-man, War machine and Black Panther for the Avengers sequel, and as for the villians they should have Loki steal Thanos’ glove from Odin’s treasure room then have him confer with Thanos..and Red Skull should make an appearance to create a new story arc for Captain America. More villians means more action, to have several villians that can equally match each one of the avengers would give each hero more of their own parts in the story…And cameos would be pretty cool like from Spider man changing from costume to street clothes in newyork or Mr. Fantastic walking inside of Stark tower somewhere or even Vision or Moon Knight would be cool
