The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Wolverine please
i think the black panther should definitely be a part of the second movie…. i see idris elba or djimon honsou playing the heck out of that part….
i think spiderman, wolverine, and silver surfer should be added and have thanos and galactus as the villians
Uh everyone, if thanos is a for sure then isn’t it obvious who needs to be in the sequel for sure? Captain Mar-vel! Geez he should be mentioned first before ant man, smh.
I think it should be Thanos, with him getting the cosmic cube for Mistress Death. The personification of death that he loved oh so much (though he was obsessed with death generally anyway). Ant-man is a popular one, though I dont think they can introduce many more characters without someone from the original film taking a step back a little.
One of the most important things I think that needs to be followed are the steps to the infinity wars of the 1990′s. It is important to introduce as many charecters as possible to set up what could be the best super hero story of all time. The infinity wars could be lucrative enough for all studios involved. Be smart, set up the Wasp, Giant Man, Black Panther, War Machine, Vision for the next Avengers movie, a wolverine and spidey cameo and let’s get the ball rolling. Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four need to unite. You have a 4 hour BILLION dollar movie idea staring you in the face. Galactus( the being not the cloud), Thanos, Red Skull, Abomination, Dr. Doom, Apocolypse, Venom, Carnage, Kingpin,…… Hey Hollywood, let’s get a move on.
If there is a fantastic four reboot they should Ressurect Doom At The End and Have Him An Thanos Put A Evil team together To stop The Fantastic four An avengers an For thiss The Four Should join the avengers An Soo should black Panther Wasp Ant Man And Spider Man
If Thanos is going to be in this, I’d like to see Adam Warlock as his counterpart.
Wolverine, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp, Dr.Strange, War Machine, Daredevil, She-Hulk, Blade, Luke Cage, any of these character should be in The Avengers 2.
Ok this is how I see it. Thanos will overwhelm the Avengers, making everyone even Hulk look weak. Henry Pym will then create Ultron, who is the key to defeating Thanos. At the end however, Ultron becomes evil and that sets up Avengers 3.
Hey Tommy Apocalypse is not a comic character but a planet that is ruled by a character by the name of Darkseid. That character is not even in the marvel universe, but in the DC universe.
Umm, Apokolypse is a Marvel character who was part of the X-Men universe. In the DC universe it’s a planet for Darkseid… Jus’ sayin..
Nuff’ Said
I’d like to see Ant-Man & Wasp in the next one. Not only are they pretty much staples of the Avengers team, but it’d be a great set-up for Ultron as a future villain.
I suppose that’d mean Vision’d have to also make an appearance. Which would bring out the Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver never strays very far from her side. Of course Magneto’s not the world’s best dad, but I imagine he’d show up if his kids were in serious trouble. And where Magneto sticks his nose the X-Men can’t be very far behind. Maybe Ant-Man & Wasp isn’t such a good idea. Way too complicated.
How about Spider-Man and Wolverine. It was kinda weird seeing New York torn up like that without him showing up to save the day. I can’t imagine him letting aliens tear up his city without a damn good reason (probably clone season). And as for Wolverine, well I’m pretty sure there was a time he was literally a full-time member of 5 different super-hero teams at once. If any X-Man could feature without the need to drag the rest of the crew it’d be Wolverine.
Id like to see them bring the red skull and abomination as villans in the avengers 2
spiderman has a new sequel coming out, does anyone know whether it is marvel studios stand-alone, or whether it is produced by sony?
Maybe no or maybe yes. I’m not sure, but i rather gonna say no. But whatever happen to Tobey McGuire? He was good on spider-man. But Andrew Garfield well probably OK for that. He’ll be perfect for the new spiderman in the new spiderman movie & the avengers 2!
The new avengers movie will be coming out 11/23/14 I just heard from the producers
That was definitely Thanos, if anyone knows about my favorite comic character they know he has always “courted death” the cosmic being he has been infatuated with since he was born.
I think a great sequel would be to follow the actual storyline of when Thanos got his hands on the cosmic cube. Since it is Avengers #2, it will be very difficult to actual follow that storyline, but Thanos has always tried to gain omnipotence to simply destroy half of the universe to please death.
Keep the plot simple, just like this one and introduce other Avengers for the sake of recruiting more talent to battle Thanos. Thanos is wiping out millions of people in the universe and plans to make his way to earth. Other heroes like Hercules, Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, QuickSilver, Adam Warlock (who will defeat him or be the wild card), will go on a all out battle against Thanos. Keep it simple like the first one, dope ass fighting scenes between Herc and Thor, Hulk and Thanos, Surfer and Thanos, etc.
