The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Spiderman will most likely be in the next avengers as stan lee has created the ultimate spiderman cartoon that coincides with the avenger being that the show is about him being recruited by sheild. Sony doesnt have sole rights to the new reboot. the movie is about his teenage life so is the cartoon.
I would love to see the Silver Surfer team up with the Avengers for the sequal; Thanos is one of the Silver Surfer’s main archnemesis–who obtained the Infinity Gauntlet, and fought the Silver Surfer in a series of Marvel Comics. The Avengers, themselves, don’t stand a chance, otherwise.
First of all, It was definetly Thanos at the end. Nobody has such a devious smile like the dead loving Eternal. Second, hey Sony do yourself a favor and don’t watch any super hero movies again. How can you say that the Avengers movie was not all that. The problem today with young fans is that you cannot satisfy them at all. I am 42 years old and I can remember back in elementary school having conversations with my friends about superhero movies. We would all say that most superhero movies would be impossible to make because we never imagined that there would one day be something like CGI. But today we can, and we still have people complaining, and not appreciating the technology that is being used today to entertain them. I’m sorry if I sound grouchy, but it’s the truth. By the way the movie was bad-ass. Like I have always said Marvel has it over DC in that they know how to market more of the charactes. DC comics just relies on there big two. Marvel comics has a handful.
How about apocalypse ??? Hes a top villan in marvel comics
Id love to see Spider-Man and Wolverine join the team.
Just finished watching the movie. Definitely worth the 22 years or so I’ve been waiting for it. I loved the Thanos teaser. They are definitely going all out with him as the villain. It would be a crime to add any other villains to it other than Lady Death, whom Thanos loves. As for new Avengers, I hope they just add a couple. Ant-man and Wasp would be perfect but to go up against Thanos they better get Strange and Surfer.
Apocalypse is a planet in the DC universe Tommy, not the Marvel universe.
Tommy is referring to Apocolypse the ancient mutant introduced in X-Factor.
Oh and Rubirisa I’m pretty sure Tommy’s. Talking about Apocalypse the X-men villain. Not a planet or whatever you were saying
Hey logan your probably right about Tommy refering to the Apocalypse in the Marvel Universe. If you did not now it Logan there is an Apocalypse (planet) in the DC universe. I just want to let you know that because it seems you think that I was making it up.
Considering Red Skull was most likely warped to asgard in captain america, i think him and thanos should team up and come back and try to stop the avengers. I also think that in the new spiderman reboot, where he doesnt know his parents, that they could most likely have went off to join S.H.I.E.L.D but have something tragic happen to them, leaving fury to come recruit spiderman. Maybe wolverine aswell but my favorite is spiderman. And lastly, i think they should kill off one of the avengers.
Sony should partner with Marvel and add spider man. It would be cool for the ghost rider to join.
It would be awesome if they made movies from the villans point of view and how they came to be. Its always about the good guys, try the bad guys as well.
In regards to Captain America, they should write a story where Peggy Carter takes a similar treatment the Captain did where she becomes a female superhero. During the war, she fought and was locked in a casket type of thing until needed. There is an explosion with high levels of radiation and she is still in the cadket until modern times where her and the Captain can reunite and clear up that gap while giving the avengers another teamate.
Ohhh!
The return of Colson in the Vision. That would be awesome.
I thought of the of the villain from the first Ultimates story line, that had a shape-changing alien and thought it would have been cool if the Red Skull had been a Skrull. Skrull and skull are so close, it could be similar to how the word “buckaroo” came from Americans misunderstanding the Spanish word “vaquero”.
The end of the movie blew my mind. Later the phrase, “Abandon all hope” came to mind, or at least, “We’re going to need a bigger boat”.
They could always remake the fantastic 4 which is what needs to happen since it sucked. Then they could do whatever they wanted.
Since. They are using. Thanos. He most likely won’t. Be in just one movie but could see him asthe primary Gillian in both thor2 and avengers2(Odin did have the gautnlet. Just invade anyone wanted to agrue about Thor) and then having small parts and cameos. And more after credit. Scenes. In the other movies.I could definitely. See the infinity. Gauntlet being. The next big thing in the. Marvel movie. University or at least that’s what I’d asume. It sours like a good idea to me it would keep everyone on the edge. Of third seats
Avengers 2: Thanos, Black Panther.
Avengers 3: Ant Man, Wasp, Ultron.
Ant Man will have created Ultron and this last one will be the epic conclusion. I bet 5 dollaz
.. and I want Kang!!
For what it’s worth, perhaps the Ant Man movie could feature Ultron, and maybe a cameo appearance by Iron Man. When it appears Ultron is about to be defeated by Ant Man, Iron Man, and maybe the Wasp, Ultron misteriously disappears, only to be seen in Avengers 2 alongside Thanos and Super Skrull.
i think wolverein should join the avengers he took the place of thor in the comics and duked it out with the hulk threw the comics hugh jackman would make a perfect adition to the cast anf for thanos i say the rock dwayne jhonston or go with a new comer like the guy that plays ganacus on the tv show spartacus a go or even ron pearlman he plays a good villian
I would throw up if Dwayne Johnson appeared.
the avengers is the best instalment yet i love all the marvel movies not so much the first hulk but mark rufallo rocked it in the avengers they brought more caracter to the hulk this movie is awsome i would watch over and over again i new it was going to be good but not this great it had every thing now come on marvel bring wolveren hugh jackman he is one of the orig avengers plus i want to see him and the hulk duke it out like they did in the comics i cant wait for the second avengers dont wait forever what a great cast man i loved that movie
