The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Did anyone think that there could be a “Civil war” brewing(because of the “board”) or is it too early for something like that? do you think avengers 2 would be required before “CIvil war?
Id like to see war machine have some kind of role in the next avenger movie. even if it was just for a short amount of time during the last big fight scene or something. If he made some kind of sudden surprise appearance im sure the fans would cheer. Thats my opinion. like i said i dont think he needs to have a substantial role just a little cameo during the end big battle scene he could come in when iron man was having trouble and could do the casual, “need some help?” entrance. people would cheer, i know i would. everyone loves war machine
haha
Vegeta and Piccolo will team up to help the Avengers fight off Thanos and Frieza
I really think they should add Ant-man and Wasp to the Avengers, since they were apart of it. Also it would be funny to see a little, idk, tension or rivalry between black widow and wasp. But that’s just me.
It’s thanos period! And I’m not even a comic geek. Could they have brought in apocalypse ? I personally don’t know due to who is DC and who is MARVEL. I think thanos would b nice. Isn’t he the one who made copies of everyone and made them fight?
Civil war would b nice. So would war machine.
Apocalypse and the 4 horsemen
Sentry would b nice. And he is one of a very elite few to whoooooop hulks butt! And he is bye far one of the strongest heros there r.
i think ghost rider, daredevil, spider man and x-men with leech should be in the avengers 2 and the bad guy should stay kronos but he should have the infinity gauntift.
Hey Guys, pleaase note that most of the main plots are already been written in comics…and of course they will be adapted for the future AVENGERS movie… Now We know for sure that THANOS will be the main enemy of the team so at least I could think about the coming of WARLOCK… the cosmic cube is already present… I mean …it is just a logic equation…we will know something more probably in THOR II but I’m already sure that THANOS will act against Asgard to get the cube and maybe the guantlet (!?!) maybe sending the MANGOG against ODIN… I could suppose!
I would love to see antman and wasp join the avengers. I thought the avengers flim was awsome and for the sequel I would love to see bucky barnesand wasp join the cast with luke cage and for the villian red skull so we can have more villians vs hero fights and the howling cammondoes should also be in the sequel cause it would make sheild stronger and the story would have a flash back from nick fury`s war days. So that’s what I would like to see and great job joss weldon its awsome come back for the sequel four out of five stars flim
You can’t have to many people in the movie. They are all stars for the most part and they want their screen time. Or you will get very little of everyone on screen if you have to many. They need to rotate them in and out like the books. Keep it fresh coz let’s face it…… How many times can you save the earth? It’s going to be the same thing over and over. Insalve, destroy , or something of that nature.
I agree with you Cypher about Thanos going after the cube and the gauntlet. This would be a great way for Thanos to be showcased. I thinl that thanos and Odin would duke it out at the end of the movie, and Odin will be killed, and Thanos would hand over Asgard to Loki. This would make Thor come back to earth and get the Avengers ready for Thanos. But the Avengers alone would not be able to defeat Thanos. They are going to need the help of Captain Marvel or the Warlock.
Last night my friend and I went to see the Avengers and we thought it was one of the most rockin’ movies EVER!!!!!! So we are wondering if there is going to be an Avengers two. If there is going to be one, I think Spider-man should be one of the new members of the Avengers along with Wolverine. Spider man and Wolverine should be part of the Avengers because they are the face of Marvel ( but mainly Spider-man). I don’t know why people say Spider-man wouldn’t be part the Avengers. Nobody has suggested Wolverine. I’ve heard talk about Ant-man and Dr. Strange being in the next possible Avengers movie, and I think that those two characters do not fit the theme of the movie. I could easily see Spider-man and Wolverine being in the next possible Avengers movie, and I would appreciate it if the director would put them in consideration.
i still crave for more after watching the avengers… and it’s good to know that the avengers team will have one or two another ally and it’s very exciting to know that there’s a new villain that will test their capabilities as they protect their so called ‘home’ the earth… i cant wait !!!
