The Avengers 2 – Sequel Plans

There’s been some Avengers 2 talk over recent weeks, so what has been said and what direction is the sequel likely to go in?
The Avengers is shaping up to be an enormous financial hit. After just two days at the foreign box office it’s taken $36 million and broken records, including the third biggest opening day in British history. In the US, it’s tracking at one and a half times the pre-sales of all other Marvel Studio movies – combined. Which means it’s going to open somewhere in the range of $160-200 million. Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it. I’ve seen the movie, and it has a much higher rewatchability than other superhero adventures – expect significant repeat viewings after a huge opening.
All of which means a very large financial incentive to press forward on a sequel. So what can we expect from The Avengers 2? Firstly it will almost certainly add to the team. Stan Lee doesn’t have creative input but he’s said he’d like to see Black Panther, Dr. Strange or Ant-Man join up. There’s been an Ant-Man standalone movie in development for some time, and more recently a Dr. Strange movie is on the boil. Ant-Man and Wasp seem like very likely additions as they have been an almost permanent feature of Avengers comics in recent years. Don’t expect to see Spider-Man join though, as those movie rights are likely to stay at Sony for a considerable time.
Producer Kevin Feige is in creative charge of the movies and says that Marvel’s upcoming movies will fit together as another set of films leading up to the Avengers sequel. Iron Man 3 “will be the first of what we refer to as phase two of this saga, that will culminate in Avengers 2.” He also mentioned that a Dr. Strange movie could well fit into this second phase. All of which means that the Avengers follow-up won’t hit theaters until 2014 at the very earliest, with 2015 more likely.
Who will be the villain? **AVENGERS SPOILER** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie. ** END SPOILER **

What would you like to see happen in an Avengers sequel? Who should join the team? Should Thanos be the only villain? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Giant-Man, the Wasp, Quicksilver, and most certainly, the Scarlet Witch need to be on hand for #2. Add Vision in #3 with Ultron as the villian.
The first film was just so enjoyable! Not going to win an Oscar, but just flat out fun!
I want to see the Vision, and use Agent Coulson’s memory patterns to give him life. Clark Gregg should return to play the synthezoid!
Add Spiderman, the fantastic four, wolverine and ghost rider.
@sony the film was great how could you not like it
im a fan of war of the gem’s game and i say not only thanos should be the villain but also nebula and magus it would be pretty epic!!
T Panther!!! The King should join The Soldier,The God, The Spy and whatever they were describing the rest of them as!
They need to have galactus appear at the end after thanos and skrull and show the Avengers in lot of trouble instead of them beating him.
Since the sequel has to be bigger to avoid the usual “not as good as the first” curse. They could introduce several other heroes throughout the individual sequels for Ironman, Captain America, Thor and Hulk, and in Avengers two have the battle fought on two fronts with the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers.
“The Avengers”…awsome Movie i think that they should get “Spider-Man, Wolvorine, Ghostrider & Punisher…for the second part it should rise to even Millions more and (Thanos) should be enough as the Evil guy!!!! I recomend More Humor & Action!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im sorry, but for those who want the wasp and ant man: step back a minute, think about it. shrink to the size of an ant, command ants. this is as lame as aquaman. Giant man sort of trumps everyone, if he can get big enough. remember, this is a film not a comic. they had to shoot AV in a less elongated screen aspect ration to accomodate the different heights of characters. having a 50 foot guy, or an ant size guy, is hard to make work on screen. Black Panther would need a near complete rewrite, and we already have two scientists on the team. too many, again, wont work in a film. I vote for the vision and the scarlet witch. VIZ was intro’d briefly in Cap, of course, and they can change SW’s powers to psionics (witchcraft and gods wont fly at disney, for sure). I think the chitauri acted as skrull standins, so we wont see the skrulls. captain marvel would be a cool choice, if the chitauri are brought back. No FF/xmen: too many characters, see XMEN3, its a laugh riot. nice to think that Jim Starlin’s Thanos could be the biggest, baddest villian of all time. go starlin, psychedelic avenger!
Thanos is one of my favorite villians of all time. Looks like its set up for him to be the villian in Avengers 2. Like in the comic book story line thanos comes to earth to collect the power cube and kill all of earths heroes to impress “Death” i would like to see Dare Devil join the avengers so Thanos can kill him. the movie could end with Nebula taking the infinity gauntlet and undoing all the killing thanos did.
At the end it was definetly Thanos, and if anyone should join the Avengers it should be Wolverine, and possibly Spider Man but Peter Parker may be a bit young to join the big kids.
Just make the infinity quest and gauntlet in animation , I will be happy
It is Thanos, which means there prob gonna bring the silver surfer back into it because well he is the only 1 that can stop him and thanos is his villian. Plus the surfer is like the gardian of the universe.
Please, no Wolverine or Spider-Man! Though they are great characters, neither is a classic Avenger, and they each have other films in which they can be showcased. I want to see classic Avengers!
