Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 Villain?
10.04.12 # Sequel # 7 Comments
With The Avengers soon to assemble on the big screen for the first time, Marvel shows no signs of slowing down. Iron Man 3 is being prepped for release next year and rumour has it that Sir Ben Kingsley is lined up to be the villain.
Having stated that the movie will not pit Iron Man against his comic book archenemy The Mandarin as was set up in the previous two movies by director Jon Favreau, who has left the project, we’re free to speculate who Kingsley’s character might be. Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash was a conflated character, part Whiplash, part Crimson Dynamo, so it’s possible the character may be another amalgam, making speculation even more difficult. With the knowledge that Iron Man 3 is likely inspired partially by the Warren Ellis penned Extremis storyline, in which Tony Stark becomes a little more superhuman, it’s possible that Kingsley will be playing a version of the character Mallen from that book, a man with nanobots in his body that allow him to take on Iron Man without armor. Or he may be someone associated with him. Or none of the above.
The Oscar-winner has circled the super-villain The Vulture in the past, when Sam Raimi was planning to use that character in Spider-Man 3 instead of Venom. What do you think of the possibility of seeing Ben Kingsley face off against Iron Man?

Ben Kingsley’s work is more varied in quality than any other actor working today. But he’s always at least as good as the role written for him, if it’s good material here then he could be terrific. He was outstanding as a villain in ‘Sexy Beast’.
I love Kingsley and think it would be great to see him as a villain. I didn’t follow Iron Man comics, and now dont read them, but like the idea of the nanobots character. He would have made an awesome Vulture.
I think they should reconsider about who should be the villain in Iron Man3 and go back to classic villains and have either “the Mandarin” or “Modak”.
I also think that Kingsley would be a good villain he played “Nizaam” in “Prince of Persia”.
I thought he was good in Transsiberian.
I still say thay should think about using classic villains like the Mandarin or Modak, instead of lesser known villains.
They’ve tried to keep the Iron Man films in a kinda-plausible reality, Mandarin and Modak are pretty out there so I can see why they’ve avoided them.
First of all, I think that’s a bit on the technical side.
Second, now that they’ve introduced the existance of magic in the Marvel movie mythos, they can use those villains.
Third lets make the third Iron Man good, with Villains everybody knows.
