‘Taken’ Sequel – First Pictures

It’s a hugely appealing thought that all the time Liam Neeson was making his very serious movies, such as Schindler’s List, he was daydreaming about smashing a faceless goon over the head with a serving tray. And hey, middle-aged action man dreams can come true – which is why Neeson will be seen soon in Taken 2, the first pictures from which have just been released.
Taken was, of course, the movie which established Neeson as a cinematic cranium-cracker of note, and having bagged ten times its budget at the global box office, a sequel always looked inevitable, even if an early rumour suggested Neeson might not reprise his starring role as the world’s toughest man with the world’s most boring name, Bryan Mills.
But Neeson is indeed back as Mills in Taken 2, and here’s what he has to say about the new movie:
The action is supposed to take place about a year or a year and a half after the first story. It’s a very clever sequel with the usual thrills and spills, but the ante is upped quite a bit in this one… they kidnap him to humiliate him, torture him, and ultimately bring him back to the village in Albania where the boys from the original film came from. With the help of my daughter [again played by Maggie Grace]… she wants to help me escape from where these bad guys have me.
Well, if Neeson is suggesting that Mills is given something of a hard time in Taken 2, then the new pictures from the film indicate that he will be giving as good as he gets, whether by gun…

…stranglehold…

…or standing by a fire, looking a bit sad. Aw.

Co-written and produced by Luc Besson, and directed by Olivier Megaton (Colombiana), Taken 2 is out on 5 October.

Loved the first movie. With this sequel it’s a bad time to an Albanian neck.
Should the title be ‘Taken Too’?
Wait wait wait. Let me get this straight.
Taken was a dull, generic thriller save for the fact they cast Liam Neeson as a ball buster … and in the sequel his TEENAGE DAUGHTER has to save him?!
Worst sequel idea ever.
I never understood what was so great about Taken. I work at a video store and everyone goes on about how good it is. It was good, but thats it. I thought it was an extremely basic story thats been done before, just with Liam Neeson instead of some guy you’ve never heard of.
I found Neeson to be very charismatic and compelling in the role. It’s a no-nonsense film that is refreshingly un-pc. The action is well done. The scene where he recognises the kidnapper’s voice in the room full of accomplices is electric.
Sometimes the star is the point. Who would have thought that Neeson would make such a great action hero at fifty-something.
I thought Taken was a very refreshing action film. But one or two things did perplex me. The following U2 across Europe idea seemed a bit out of time. And why would the bad guys, who had some sort of sex trafficking thing going on, kill the daughter’s equally American and frankly hotter best pal if the point was to sell US chicks to rich foreign blokes ?
It’s a long time since I saw it, but I think it’s because her friend wasn’t a virgin.
U2 were the biggest-earning musicians of 2011. But yeah, hard to imagine people of that age and type being so into them.
