Wreck-It Ralph – Trailer

Wreck-It Ralph Trailer
The trailer for Disney’s ode to videogames Wreck-It Ralph is available. Insert 10p to play.

Ralph’s journey will take him to the likes of ‘Hero’s Duty’, a first-person shooter where he helps the game’s hero, Sergeant Calhoun, battle alien “Cy-Bugs”, and to ‘Sugar Rush’, a kart racing game set on tracks made of sweets. There he learns of a dire threat that could affect the entire arcade, and one that he may have inadvertently started.

I like that Ralph’s videogame is based on my favourite from that era, Rampage (why a modern version of Rampage has never been made I do not know). As a gamer ever since, the movie looks like a lot of fun. I can’t imagine the rights they had to clear for the bad-guy therapy scene – Eggman (Sonic), Bowser (Mario), Zangief (Street Fighter) Clyde the Orange Ghost (Pacman), etc. – although reportedly those guys don’t really appear outside of it. There will be numerous other licensed cameos scattered around, ala Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

The movie is being helmed by a former animation director of The Simpsons and Futurama, which is a positive. I’m curious though whether it will be a box-office success, since the last videogame-themed feature Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World tanked financially. Is Wreck-It Ralph really trying to appeal to an age-group/type who don’t turn up at the cinema to watch Disney animations? The jury’s out.

Featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman, Wreck-It Ralph is out on November 2nd in the US, and 15th February 2013 in the UK.

Not a single funny joke in the trailer. And the concept is so much like Toy Story that it feels like copyright infringement just watching it.

Sadly, looks like the best non-Pixar Disney flick in a while.

Right, I didn’t laugh at all, and I don’t like the character designs of Ralph and the girl once they are out of their games – could be from any generic animation. However the concept has enough charm to cover those two shortfalls for me.

Disney’s out of originality, and I already don’t feel like watching this crap. I smell the dirty business from the brand Disney, rather than giving fair credits to copy righted game productions. Based on the trailer, I totally agree with Dalmatianjaws that this film contains full of infringements.
